I have used this salt before and never had a problem. With this new bucket I am getting brown sediment like crazy. I use RO/DI and make sure everything I use to mix is clean. I will never buy this salt again.

Calcium floating after 24 By Bryan on 8/11/11

I use RED SEA products, I have a red sea max 250 red sea test kits and used the Red sea salt mix. I switched to Coral Pro and every batch of salt I make has white film after 24 hours. I saw in a review above me red sea told them to not mix for that long. it is usually crystal clear after 20 minutes so ill give that a try.

great for LPS only tanks By Rocky on 7/17/11
Rocky would recommend this product to a friend
I have been using this salt for a while and really like it because the calcium and alkalinity levels are so high. I only have anemones and a few LPS and this salt allows me to manage my levels with weekly water changes alone. No calcium reactor or other additives. I have noticed like some of the other users that if you mix it too long the calcium starts to precipitate out because the cal/alk levels are intentionally really high so I generally mix it and use it a hour later to avoid that. I’d use the normal blue bucket red sea if I were concerned about that or managed calcium levels with a reactor or something else.

Lots of sediment By antole on 7/16/11
antole wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
Lots of stuff floating around lots of calcium precipitation and as other reviewer stated not clear after 24 hours of mixing. I contacted red sea about the issues and they told me that I should not mix for so long and to only mix a maximum of 3 hours, but its not even close to clear after that, no way imo putting it in my tank. I emailed them again and got no response. The parameters are way off in the mix, (not whats stated on the bucket)i even dry mixed 2 buckets together and have bad results each time.

Best salt if you have coral By Lynn on 6/29/11

I started off using Instant Ocean salt as this is what almost everyone uses in this hobby. One guy from my LFS recommended using this salt as it as close to natural salt water that you can get. Boy was he right! I no longer have low magnesium issues and my calcium and alkalinity are always the same value! All I need to do is my regular water changes to keep my water chemistry spot on! Also I really started seeing some great growth in my coral frags as well as coralline algae which did not grow well when I was using Instant Ocean. It is the same price as Reef Crystals as well so why not give it a try? I'm glad I did!!

I like it By Ally on 6/27/11

Most of the other salts I have used required me to mix it the night before. This stuff dissolves almost instantly. I feel comfortable using it an hour or two after mixing.

Best I have used By Jay D on 6/25/11

I have been doing this for close to 20 years now and I am a long time Instant ocean user. I have tried most salts out there but I always ended going back to IO because it is the cheapest and easiest to find. Some of our club members convinced me to try this salt mix. I was pretty skeptical I would notice any difference over IO but I was wrong. After about 3-4 water changes I am seeing incredible polyp extension and some of the smaller frags I recently added seem to have begun encrusting the plug base much faster. It also dissolves much faster than IO. I mix in a 55 gallon food grade drum with a koralia 4 and it looks ready to use inside an hour.

No Sure Just Yet By Neil on 6/24/11

I ordered this salt mix to try it out and see what it was like. I mixed it with RO/DI water in a 42gal Brute food grade trash can. I have a mag drive 7 for the water flow and to help mix the salt for the water change. I mixed the salt and the water and let the mag drive do the mixing for 24 hours. The next day the water was not clear and there was a brown sediment floating around in the trash can. I cleaned the trash can before making new RO/DI water and mixing so not sure what it is. I did not want to put this in my reef tank so I got rid of 35gal that I made and went back to my old salt. I will mix again to see if it does the same thing and hope for better water mix.
