Rapid Who?!? By Tony on 3/26/13
Tony would recommend this product to a friend
When I got back into this hobby, I purchased a DIY LED kit for my 90g tank, and after spending 8 hours soldering, I was not happy with the color or options that I had with the kit. IMO, it's $500 out the window. Do yourself a favor and skip the DIY and get these, you will be money ahead.
With the DIY kit, my corals would open, but not like they should. the light was plenty bright being cree led's, but the coloration of the corals left a LOT to be desired. As soon as I put these on, EVERYTHING opened up like it should and ONLY at the intensities posted below! Not the 95% that I had the DIY setup at.
White = 65%
Blue = 60%
Royal = 60%
With that setup, the corals look amazing, the shimmer is great, and everyone that sees the tank loves it.
There was an issue with the storm function, but I will cover that under the "New Controller" review since it had nothing to do with the lights themselves.
IMO, get these lights. I have 2 of them over my 90 with everything from Monti and acro, to a huge colt, to shrooms to zoo's, and everything is LOVING it. Best investment yet!

Awesome LED fixture, if you're not interested in DIY. By David on 1/10/13
David would recommend this product to a friend
I've had my LED fixture for two and a half months now. I purchased it for a 40 breeder (36 inches long) and hung it parallel to the tank vice perpendicular, which is what AI's website recommends. I did this initially because I only intended to keep one unit over the tank. Now, after two and a half months, my focus has shifted to an SPS dominated tank. Now that I'm heading that route, I would absolutely recommend that you follow manufacturers recommendations and get one unit for every 12 inches of coverage ( length-wise).
I have seen a decent amount of growth from acropora, montipora, seriatopora, various zoanthids and a slew of LPS.
That being said, I would do the research and see if this system is best for you. There are a ton of different systems out there, some including red, green and UV LEDs. This system contains none of these. You can build a DIY unit of better performance at a comparable price.

Beautiful lighting By Vitiock on 11/1/12

Beautiful lighting with independent control over all 3 LED types. The Pendants them selves look really nice and makes it possible to display them outside of a cabinet environment. However it really needs a controller to shine.

Extremely happy my friend recommended these! By Terrie on 10/27/12
Terrie would recommend this product to a friend
I purchased a set of 3 of these with the mounting rail, hanging kit, and AI controller for my 125 gallon tank. I quickly realized I needed one more for sure. It's recommended 6 for this size tank however I'm confident 4 is going to do the job just fine! They are expensive but worth it! I might in the future go ahead and get two more just b/c it's the recommendation for my tank size. In a very short couple of days I noticed great improvement with my corals and that's just with 2 lights (replacement and 4th light will be here in a couple days). I'll have to come back to provide feedback for the long term of these but I'm sure I'm going to be happy!
These were very easy to mount, hang, and set up! I was surprised how easy it was to set the controls up (there are multiple settings you can choose)! Great thing is it's also very easy to add more to them in the future if you choose to do so.
My hubby really enjoys the thunderstorm settings, I do as well! I almost rated this a 4 b/c the ONLY thing I would change about them is adding sound to the thunderstorm setting. But as fun as it would be that's not worth even a portion of a degrade in the rating!
One of the three modules didn't function properly when I received it. I called AI for tech help and they were quick to help out and diagnose the problem. I then contacted Bulk Reef Supply and Reid was a tremendous help and did get a replacement out right away. I am very pleased with the customer service at Bulk Reef!

Awesome product, clunky to install By lexin on 10/9/12
lexin would recommend this product to a friend
I picked up two of these bad boys and a controller for my 90g. I had a 48' 6 bulb t5 with LED's down the middle (so no canopy).
The hanging rails and cables didnt come with it, and the rails are pretty much mandatory for use. The 2 default mounting screws are poorly placed, leaving few other options. I ended up having to build a canopy (or pay $300) to house them. I used $3, 3/4" closet hook rails, instead of the shiny $50 option since they were going to be out of sight.
I opended them up to find that the heat sink on one had been badly scratched and bent (looked like drop on concrete) and the other had a scratch along the edge. Both had finger prints on the backsides of the lenses from whoever installed them. I ended up having to take both of them apart to clean them before I even got to plug them in. QC failed that one.
The default program for the controller is terrible (unless you like cooked coral), and programming it was a chore. I also found out that its very sensitive to movement. Just picking it up to look at it could cause the signal to drop and the lights start freaking out. So plan to mount it to something.
My corals all still look happy after a few days, and my water temperature has dropped about 3 degrees. I like the shimmer and the color temperature they provide. They output almost no heat and operate silently despite having a computer fan mounted in the heatsink. And maybe most importantly, my power usage has gone down considerably from the t5 and no more bulb changing!

I absolutely love these lights. I have 2 over my 75G, and will soon have them over all my frag tanks/quarantine/180G. The adjust ability with the controller makes them way easy to adjust to your liking. I prefer the blues over the whites to give it more of a deep blue 20k look. I have every different kind of coral and my sps love them. Anybody not using these right now is missing out! Currently have mine set at 90/90/90% 14" above the water.

Great Lighting By McKay on 8/10/12
McKay would recommend this product to a friend
Bought these for my 93 gallon cube. I opted for the Sol blue with black casing... very nice looking and high quality lights! I actually did a ton of research before deciding on these units... and it payed off!
First off... If anyone questions the validity of LED lighting for reef tanks, they are living in the past. These things crank out a TON of beautiful light with very low heat and energy usage.
Now... with a unit like this you get the added benefit of the controller that allows for a nice ramp that is constantly changing - much more natural and allows for many "moods" in the aquarium throughout the day and night. Also gives you a pretty much non-stop viewing cycle as the lower intensity settings won't cause algae problems but still leaves enough light to enjoy the view. Way better than the "All or nothing" settings you get with metal halides. These all create beautiful shimmer or "glitter lines"... really gorgeous light all around.
I would highly recommend the blues over the whites... gives you way more range and mood options in the lighting.
In short... fish love it, corals love it, I love it!

Love these lights, but you have to know how to use them By Sara on 7/27/12
Sara would recommend this product to a friend
Little background, I've had reef tanks for 5 years now and have used PC's, T-5's, and MH's over the years in tanks ranging from 14 gallon nanos to a 150 gallon mixed reef. My main tank right now is a rimless 75 gallon mixed reef with 3 AI sol whites over it. The two lights on the side are kept perpendicular with the front glass and the middle one is parallel with the front glass, because the overflow is in the middle of the tank. The lights are kept about 14" above the water surface.
I really like these lights, because you can adjust the color to whatever you want, it doesn't cost as much to run them power wise, they are very quiet, you don't have to change light bulbs, and they gradually dim to go off instead of just turning on and off like other lighting does (seems more natural and doesn't scare the fish). The only downside is that you have to be very careful when you first start using them. The lights can easily bleach out your corals. It's a puzzle and you just have to find where different corals do best in your tank and adjust the lighting so all the corals can get used to it. I've had the lights over a mixed reef for about 4 months now and I still have to tinker with the lighting, but not as much as when I first installed them. Most of my corals have great color right now and many have improved dramatically from when I first added them to the tank (some were browned out and bleached before going into the tank).
I convinced my father to get these same lights for his 125 and unfortunately, he's not as good as controlling the lights, actually he really never learned how to, and his corals did suffer because of that. I have started adjusting his lighting for him and his corals are slowly getting their color back.
So as long as you are willing to carefully watch your tank the first few months after adding AI sol's and adjust the lighting based on how the corals look, you'll be very happy with these lights.

I visited a local store to buy some halide replacement bulbs... and curiously enough the AI sol blue was being demonstrated to a customer next to me.... I'm always proud to boast about my light system but this time, I quietly joined the demo, went home got online and snatched a pair from brs.... A 2mns demo is all that is required to convince anyone serious reefer to get this light...

SPS LOVES THE INTENSITY By BBLINKS on 5/8/12
BBLINKS would recommend this product to a friend
I have a 300 gallon sps tank with 12 units, I run these lights at 100% for 5 hours a day. Absolutely love them, sps colors amazing with good growth. I did start off with 9 units but went on to 12 units, most people with sps always warn you about the intensity of the light but if your tank is under 400w metal halide and you start running leds on 20 - 30% intensity I will guarantee your sps will start to take a hit(browning out) you should keep them on the same schedule as the metal halides and have 2-3 hours for ramp up and down(sun raise and sun set) but left them up 5-10 inches where the halide was for a while and slowly lower them down.

It took 6 units before i could make 4 of them work properly, not a very good introduction to AI, but they have been working for a few months and My power bill dropped $55 per month every thing seems to be enjoying the new light, did some acro fragging and they skinned over in just a few days. still running less than 50 % .
