I 've been using this heater for over a year, and it's been holding the set temperature pretty accurately. Priced right too.

Great heater! By James on 4/4/13

I bought the 300w heater and it works great. It's a great heater at a great price, couldn't ask for better. It keeps my tank at a constant 78°. If I ever need another heater, I will definitely purchase one of these.

They come with a 6 month warranty, mine was dead at 11 months. Spend a few extra dollars and get a better heater.

I bought two of the 300 watt models for redundancy on my 115 gallon, which were controlled by an Apex. Both have completely stopped heating after 8 months of use. If you don't mind putting your expensive livestock at risk with a crappy unreliable heater, than go for this Finnex. If you prefer reliability in your equipment and stability in your system, choose a different option for your heater(s).

I've lost that loving feeling By David on 12/14/12

Initially I was really impressed with the Finnex heater (200w). Love the digital readout plus it has an external temp sensor. However, a little over a year has passed and it will no longer heat the water above 74 degrees. Not a catastrophic failure of course but still disappointing.

I've gone through two of the 300W in under 2 years. Both times the electronics failed and the units would not turn on, nor would they display current temperature. Not good hardware at all!

Bought 2 Both Broke By Steve on 11/16/12
Steve wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I purchased 2 of the 300W heaters just under a year ago. The first one literally started on fire in my sump. The second one just stopped heating even though the display still works and says it is.
Will not purchase again.

3 heaters all broken after a few months By Matt on 11/5/12
Matt wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
Awful product, do not buy! Bought a 100w and a 300w for two different tanks. Both broke after a couple months. Had the 300w replaced by Finnex, but that broke after a couple of months as well.
Clearly there is a problem with this heaters and I at least wanted the 300w replaced again since I was still within their warranty period for the replacement. But nope they wouldn't do that because the replacement didn't fall within the time period of the original purchase warranty period so they refused to replace the heater.
Reply from the company was that they aren't meant to be run all the time and maybe my room temperature was too low or the heater is undersized for my tank. My 200w aqueon heater has had no issues with running the tank. Now I have a controller and my duty cycle shows its about 25%.
Do not buy from a product or a customer service standpoint.

I purchased a HPS-100 Finnex Digital a year ago and it simply stopped heating. All the indicator lamps were working but no heat.
I purchased a second HPS-100 Finnex Digital to replace the first. I'm now having problems with it after running it for 3 weeks.
I would recommend steering clear of this product and spending your money on something else.

Bought the 100w heater in march, it's september. Haven't had any problems with it. I would say that the tank sizes for the heaters are a little off, it has a hard time keeping up on chilly nights.

Temperature reading is not accurate By Seth on 9/7/12

I bought two 300W models a few months ago to go into my sump for a total system volume of 240 Gallons.
They two heaters are installed side by side with the temp probes in the same area. One meter reads 78F, the other is 76F. It's hard to say which one is correct, I will need a third temperature gauge now!

I purchased a 100W just over 6 months prior to this review. Today, the heater has started reading '99' no matter where I put the probe. I would stay away from this brand until they figure out their quality issues.

Bought 4 100w and 1 200 watt for fish room tanks (20H & 30L gallons) and DI water tub to replace recalled Marineland Stealth heaters. Seemed to be reasonably priced. Would be better if they filled tube with black sand instead of white to blend in with dark back of tanks. Minor point. 200 W in DI tub still going strong after over a year. 2 of the 100 W have stopped heating after about 4 months. 3 month warranty is really totally useless. Bought Finnex metal heater with anlog control at same time for 20L tank since it is much shorter for the shallower tank. This has been working fine. May look into these for future replacements but may be scared off Finnex brand.

I have been running this 300w Finnex HPS heater on my 90 gallon with 36 gallon sump for two months now and love it. It is easy to dial in at any temp you want with a digital screen to 0.1. Comes in very handy when wanting accuracy and stability for any aquarium. I am actually buy a second one as I am tying in another 50+ gallons to my existing set up. Great product.

Nice features, but doesn't last long By John on 2/19/12
John wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I bought 2 of the 300 W heaters because the reviews seemed overall positive. I used these heaters (one at a time) on my 75 gallon marine tank. The first one lasted only one week when the temp went from 80 to 70 within one day. I replaced that one with a second heater and that one (set to 80) is also slowing loosing ground (tank is now down to 76) after only 2 weeks of use. Hard to believe that I just happened to get two defective heaters. These are made in China, which might explain the short life-span.

I have this 300w heater in my 200 gallon system. 125 display tank, 75 gallon sump and it keeps my water at a steady 79-80F. My ambient temperature is 71F and this heater does a great job for its size. It's like half the length of other brands with the same wattage. Fits great in those sumps that aren't so wide/tall.

Not happy By Vincent on 1/30/12

I purchased one of these 300 watt heaters recently because of the reviews. However, I am not impressed. The first one I had shattered inside of my sump for some unknown reason. BRS was great about it and sent me out a replacement the very next day. Tonight when I came home I noticed that my tank was down to 74.5 degrees when I keep it at 80 degrees. For some reason the heater quit working. I tried troubleshooting without success. I will not by one of these again.
