Great product but beware of over flowing syphon By GP on 7/28/2015

Do not get it with out the pump or you are increasing chances of syphon failure. Even with pump it may happen so invest in a new tank or get an apex controller with relay floats to control return pump in case of over flow.

Straight out of the box, it was quick and simple to install on the tank. I did not want to drill my tank and this fit the bill perfectly. I did do a little oversized on it to get better flow rates and additional protection, and this overflow delivers!

I was abit uneasy about hooking up a overflow to my 60gal (never worked with pvc before) But it was a breeze, and the CS90 has worked like a champ. Not loud at all and skims water great. Thanks to BRS for the great product!!

If you need an over flow box, this is the one to get. If you’re not sure where or whom to perches it from, then someone has failed to direct you to BRS!!!. Amazing product!! Amazing service!!, that sums it all up. O yea!! I am real person like you, not someone that works for them or computer generated:). Just saying :).

It works like it is supposed to and its the only option I have now. But it is a little big and requires a lot of room behind the aquarium.

If you are not able to get a pre-drilled tank these are great products. You can regulate the flow from the return pump and make it virtually silent. It can be difficult to clean but I have only had to do that on a few occasions. This is my second CPR overflow, the first was 10 years old and I had no problems with it, I damaged it moving my 75 to another room so this is a replacement. The aqualifter, I can take it or leave it. I was using a MaxiJet 1200 with the same results plus the added benefit of additional current.
lifter pump runtime By Greg on 12/22/2014
Greg would recommend this product to a friend
If you are worried about the lifter pump failing after it has run so long it dies (I read this concern), what you can do is put a refractometer in line with the tubing. You could probably use a Smart ATO, and if it senses a refraction due to salt water it will be off, If the refractive index is that of air, it will turn on. Much like it behaves in a sump turning on an auto fill cycle. Seems like a lot of trouble though. The lifter pump is a safe guard against air pocket build up in your overflow and is not necessary for the overflow to run. It is a safe guard and certainly recommended. Much better than U-tubes.
CS90; The perfect HOB overflow By Greg on 12/21/2014

Installed a CS90 w/lifter pump. Plugged it in. Done. Perfect. I too got a little gurgling at first however, then increased my flow to hold at about an inch above the head of the filter guard on the intake. Silent.

I have been useing this over flow for about 8 years. I just replaced it because the nipple for the vaccume pump broke off. I have never had a siphon break in all those years. When the power goes off, it starts up quickly and resumes the flow. If you do not have a drilled tank, get this product

Purchased this because I cannot drill holes in my tank. I was nervous when buying this because of it possibly failing, but it has been running constantly with no issues. When power goes out it drains into sump and when power comes back on the siphon restarts and works just like it should.

I originally went the cheapest/ugliest route and constructed overflows out of PVC via DIY videos on YouTube. While they were indeed cheap, functional, and gave a sense of accomplishment, it just didn't look good, and brought a constant fear factor knowing the flaws of that system. I was toying with the idea of drilling the tank, but soon decided a HOB overflow would be the safest route. These overflows are great, but I would like to know how long the pump will last until it burns out...while the siphon remains despite the pump being turned off (or if it died), if the power goes out and then comes back on and you're not there to start the siphon again, you could easily flood the tank and cause big problems. I would definitely say the pros out weigh what little cons there are with this. I'm not having any noise problems, but if you do, there are videos for standpipes to help with this.

first of all, not thrilled that you have to add a siphon pump to make this thing work! Second if you hard pipe the unit it is very loud. All the adjusting in the world wouldn't stop the gurgling. I had to make two pipes that fit into the drains (thank god for you tube). Overall i don't think i would not recommend this to anybody that wants to hard pipe their systems.
Good option By Daniel on 9/19/2013

If your tank is tempered like mine and you don't have a reef ready design, this is your best option. Just make sure you establish a water level for both your tank and sump. If either your siphon fails or your pump turns off you could have an overflow in your tank or your sump [double trouble]. Also be sure to use a good ball valve or two on your lines to regulate flow... It makes a bit too much noise, and the pre-filter will clog eventually, so do your maintenance, and this will work well for you....
Best alternative to a drilled tank By Tim on 5/2/2013

I've been running this set up for about a year. As other reviewers have noted, the aqua lifter pump maintains and restarts the siphon even in the event of a power outage. So far, I've had no problems. A couple of notes: 1) As an added precaution, I drilled a 1/8" hole in my return just below the surface of the water. In the event of a power failure, this will stop the return from back-siphoning into the sump and overflowing it; 2) If you have the proper sized sump for your tank, you can tinker with the water level in the sump, keeping it low enough to accommodate water flowing back from the tank if the power fails. Nothing is fool- or idiot-proof, but if you follow the instructions and do the maintenance, this is the next best thing.

I love this combo. Gives me peace of mind that my overflow siphon will always be going, even if power stops and it has to restart. This unit is exceptionally quiet, but I may add a durso standpipe to mine.

This is probably the best option if you cannot drill your tank. I tried numerous scenarios to try to break the siphon and was unable to do so. Just make sure the outlet hose from the Aqualifter is under water either in the tank or the sump and you won't have a problem.

This is probably the best option if you can't drill your tank. I have tried many scenarios and I cannot make this thing lose siphon. Even if you turn off the aqualifter it keeps on flowing, just make sure that the outlet hose from the aqualifter is under water, either in the tank or the sump.

I've got it on a 75 gal. It's a little over-kill. Got this one because I figured if one pipe clogged I'd still have another pipe open. We turn all pumps off twice a day when we feed. Never a problem with siphon starting. Best part is it's completely silent. If I turn off my skimmer I can't even hear the aquarium running. So Nice! I absolutely love CPR Aquatics!

We like the product and the quietness of the flow; however, the pump worries me. If it were to fail, there would be an issue. We have not had any issues and do not have to worry about fish getting trapped.
Much better than Eshopps By john on 2/25/2012
john would recommend this product to a friend
A snail got sucked into the U tube of my Eshopps overflow and 10 gallons of saltwater ended up on our wood floor. Wish I had my tank drilled but the CPR 102 seems to be the next best thing. It is also much quieter than the Eshopps that I had modified with durso standpipes. The CPR DX overflows are plug and play.
BRS doesn't carry flexible corrugated PVC drain tubing. Made my own using 1.25" PVC spa hose found at HD. I cut to length and used PVC glue to 1" PVC piping for a leak free connection. Tried a hose clamp but that leaked. I think reinforced vinyl tubing, sold by BRS, is too stiff for this application and corrugated PVC tubing allows the return water to become more oxygenated.
I'm not a fan of using the foam filters that came with the CPR. I couldn't hear a sound level difference and foam filters can harbor algae which will add nitrates to a tank, if not regularly cleaned. Most reefs would have a sock filter where the return water enters the sump anyway.
Also bought a Ultra Float Switch (Ultralife Reef) that I'll mount in my sump to kill the main pump if the sump water goes too low, in the event that the lifter pump dies and I lose siphon (note to BrentB). BRS, you should carry these too. Making one from parts, sold by BRS, looks like more effort than necessary.
If you have a U tube overflow box, I would recommend replacing it with a CPR. Also having a low water kill switch in the sump would be a good idea.

I will never go back to the U tube overflows. They have way to many problems with loosing siphon! Never had a problem with the Aqualifter pump clogging. but i also use the aqualifter prefilter. Not a single overflow in over 5 years!
Poor Design By BrentB on 2/25/2011
BrentB wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
The overflow is a nice unit but has a serious flaw....the aqualifter pump. I have been running these overflows for about a year and have had 3 overflows resulting in huge water damage. All three times the lifter pump failed and the units loosed siphon and the tank overflowed. If CPR would redesign the unit scrapping the need for the lifter pump it would be much better. I since then got rid of the CPR's and went back with the U-Tube overflow.....essentially failsafe

this is the only overflow that I have found to never loose siphon, even during power outages. I wish I had this before I ruined my living room floor and basement ceiling last year. The aqualifter really makes it foolproof.
