This is basically an over engineered pump. But, it has so many settings that sound practical. Hopefully all the settings that the pump is capable of truely produce the desired effect they say they will. I usually run reef crest or lagoon mode. Have used these on 20 gallon long for some nice wave action and detritus movement. Now I use on a small nano 8 gallon and it completes a "minimalist" look for the tank.
Occassionally reviews say these pumps are loud. My has a slight hum and occassionally picks up a piece of macro algae and stops but that is rare. Overall a good pump is you have the cash.

Small footprint in tank with is important for people like myself with a smaller 65 gallon tank. Nutrient Transport mode is great after feeding for corals. Quite and sleak design. Looks good in tank and functions well. easy wavemaker function. Was looking at other brands but the clicking on startup and shutoff of other pumps with wavemaker abilities just was not going to work.

Quality pump that performs By Brian on 12/11/12

I cant say enough about this pump. I currently have one running in my 29g standard (30") reef and its the only pump I need running. It replaced 3 previous powerhead that I was using.
This biggest drawback to vortechs with most people is the price, but they are extremely worth it if you can front the cash. Quality manufacturing, quality support, numerous and excellent modes of operation and a pump that moves water like no other.
Ive had this pump about a year and have never had a problem. I cant say that for other powerheads. Its never let me down and the performance and functionality ensure all my tank critter are happy as can be.
Get a backup power supply and quit worrying about power outages, this pump literally offers it all with integration with other products like Radion lights and Apex controllers to offer even more options.
I can guarantee all my future pump purchases will be vortechs.

Fantastic Powerhead! By Pat on 12/2/12

This thing rocks! I replaced 2 internal Hydor Evo's and it is so much less noticable in my tank. It does make a very slight hum but, to me it's jsut white noise and not irritating at all. Being able to control this thing makes it worth every penny.

This is an easy five star rating. I truly believe these pumps are peerless and the only negative is that because I've had such a great experience with this product, it's made me want MORE of their products.

Good performance but lousy(eco tech) cust. service after warranty is up... By doug griffith on 11/25/12
doug griffith wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
My mp 10's dry side went bad after only 16 months. I sent it in only to have to pay $93 (w/shipping) to get it fixed.... So as of today I have spent approx $320 on a pump that may or may not last another 16 months. Oh yeah, they charged my credit card before getting my final permission on the amount once they found out what was wrong with it... real professional:(
I would have expected a pump that costs over $200 to last at least 3 years before any real issues and would have hoped the company would have backed it up since it was only 4 months(at most) past warranty, but I guess I was expecting too much.

Good performance, bad reliability. By Dougers31 on 11/19/12
Dougers31 wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I bought this pump with to hopes of it adding some nice wave acftion to my tank, which it did. Only problem is that after 16 months of use, most of it at only 60% power, the dry side failed. I emailed eco Tech and they said I needed to ship it back to them which I did. They also said it could cost upwards of $80 to fix, which it did, plus I had to pay for shipping, so now I paid over $90 to fix a pump that I already paid $230 for.... not happy about this at all. I would think with it only being 4 months past warranty they would be a little more reasonable since it probably only needed new bearings... which are apparently not super high quality. I have heard from some other folks on our local forum who have had a similar experience. So basically it's a great pump if money is no object otherwise its much less then what I expected for a $230 pump.

Love it, now I just need one more! By Jeremy on 10/23/12
Jeremy would recommend this product to a friend
I ran this for about a month and the wet side broke, I called ecotech and they immediately sent me another with a prepaid box to send the broke one back. Customer service is awesome. Also my pump was making a slight vibration noise but this was due to not being properly aligned, while it was running I slightly nudged it left, right, up and down until it quite and it's been great ever since. Can't wait to get another one. I think I will go with the wireless one next time and then upgrade this one so they can work together. I have it on a 75 mixed reef.

Nice Pump By Justin on 9/23/12
Justin would recommend this product to a friend
I was a bit skeptical when I was told I ought to lay out this kind of cash on a powerhead, but I am sold. I have been using them for a few months now, and they are great products. I have a rimless tank, and really like that I maintain the minimalist look of the tank by keeping the majority of the powerhead on the outside of the glass.
The controller is a bit difficult to program/use, but the instruction manual is not too difficult to follow.
2 of these in my 57 gal tank is almost overkill. These pumps are very powerful - in fact from independent tests out there on the interwebz, they are actually more powerful than advertised.
I would definitely recommend if you have a bit of extra cash to outlay on your reef tank for some very pro gear.

Far Louder than acceptable By Mike on 9/10/12
Mike wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I understand that the motor is outside the water, however the reality is that this pump is bar far louder than everything else on my system combined. I sent the pump to EcoTech and they would only say that it's "within their tolerancees."
I had no way to test the noise level before purchase so I knew I was taking a risk. I fully regret buying the pump based on the high level of noise. I'll sell the pump to someone who has a high tolerance for noise and try something different.

Fantastic but at a steep price By Brigwol on 7/19/12
Brigwol would recommend this product to a friend
The different wave modes are what got me to buy one for my 55 build. I haven't ran it over 50% and have no flow issues what so ever. The price and lack of promotions are the only disappointing thing about this power head.

It is tiny... By Matt on 7/4/12
Matt would recommend this product to a friend
It is tiny (*really* small), but flimsy and overpriced. I had to replace one wet side because a cerith climbed in during a power outage and when the power came on one of the blade sheared off on his shell! (This of course caused the wet side to become a projectile into the corals below.) It's hard to beat the package size if you really need something this small, but be prepared for ongoing costs.

The first mp10 I received worked for about 5 min, and then stopped, after troubleshooting, got in touch with Ecotech, and they promptly sent out a replacement, no questions asked, great customer support. The new pump worked great and I'm happy with it in my 40 breeder sps mix reef. These guys stand behind their products . If you buy, no worries!

Must have for every tank By PT on 3/10/12
PT would recommend this product to a friend
Ive had my eye on this for a while and put it aside thinking it costs too much for a pump ... finally couldnt resist anymore and bought it for a new setup and its everything I imagined it to be and more !! Ill never be w/o one of these in another tank. The reefcrest mode is my favorite and the corals/fish seem to love it.
Only issue I have is it does move the sand around slowly near the corners due to how strong the flow it creates. I have a 24" cube and running 1 around 80% along with a return from mag 7 seems to have enough flow everywhere in the tank.

Cool Features By Martin on 2/14/12

Love the pump, but let's face it. This one falls into the "I want it" instead of the "I need it" category. I gave value 3 stars due to cost. You can get the same circulation from less expensive products, but not with the same cool features. Only complaint so far is that it did not come with a full owner's manual. Thought mine was defective until I downloaded the manual and noted the "break-in period" when "pump stalls may occur for a few days", thus 4 stars for performance. Wish I had known that before I called EcoTech. Regardless, I have zero regrets and love this pump.

This is hands down the nicest pump you can get for your aquarium... That being said... I don't understand why they cannot have these go on thicker glass... I bought a second for another tank and it would not hold because the glass is about 1/2 inch thick..? There is no way around this and it is makes it inconvenient that you need the MP40 even though the flow from an MP10 would be perfect... Very rich in features, I am just upset that I need a 450 dollar unit to be able to use it on my second aquarium.

Cool Pump By Dan W on 12/30/10
Dan W would recommend this product to a friend
I am using this on my 50 gallon shallow reef tank (36X24X13). There are a lot of cool features on this pump but I usually just keep it in reef crest or lagoon mode. I tried to create a wave with he short pulse mode but I couldn't get anything very big, probably because my tank is pretty wide. I also noticed a lot of noise in short pulse mode so I opted not to use it. I might consider getting the mp40 but I do still have problem with sand blowing around on this shallow tank. I might eventually get another and sync them. Great product tough.
