I had very limited space and this sump fit perfectly. This was my first sump and I set it up, plumbed it, installed all the equipment and now everything is filtering smoothly. My only concern was shipping damage, but BRS packaged it very well and I had no surprises when I filled it up for a pre-installation pressure test! Nothing negative to say about it - Iknew how much space I had and I read all the specs on it...So it's Good!

When i received this sump the cap was off in the overflow pipe on the first chamber. I just glued it back on and has worked great ever since. The third chamber is a little small if you are thinking about putting your skimmer in there. I run it in the second chamber with no problems the water level stays constant there, but not able to have a refugium this way.
Nice design, hit or miss on arrival damage By John on 5/11/2014

Well I will first start off by saying that the original shipment came damaged. The damage was limited to one of the baffles only being half glued and a screw being stripped. I contacted BRS who said they would refund me or I could go through Aqueon for a replacement. I decided to go through Aqueon, which has an excellent customer service, and shipped me another unit for a replacement. When that unit arrived the intake tube was detached so I again contacted customer service who asked if I felt comfortable attaching it if they sent me the supplies. As I elected to do the repairs myself, Aqueon went ahead and sent some additional goodies as a compensation for the troubles and completing the repairs myself. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend the sump to anyone, but I would also warn them on the potential damages that may occur. Which I honestly believe that the shipping company caused all the damages. I would recommend to packing the boxes better, maybe using Styrofoam peanuts instead of the bags full of air which is capable of becoming deflated in shipment.

I have a 75g tank and went with the model 3. One year after it's all been running, I have two major regrets. I wish I had larger stand doors and I wish I went with the Model 4. I'm running a Reef Octopus pin110 skimmer, GFO reactor, probe holder, float switch, Mag 7 return pump and ATO switch in the last stage. My last stage is soooo crampped, no space at all. The model 3 is 25.5" long while the model 4 is 36" long. Would have given me more room making it easier to clean and given me more options for a larger skimmer if I wanted to upgrade later. Other than that, I've had no issues. Chaeto is growing great under LED lights and no leaks. Runs as designed.
The sump is OK just not with a refugium By Saboken on 8/18/2013
Saboken wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
For the price there should be more options to use this as a Refugium the barrier between chamber 1 & 2 has no way to lock it in place when/if the power goes out the Barrier drops and messes up the flow in my Refugium I could modify it but if I do and anything goes wrong like the first unit that was not glued together right I will be in my own since it will void the warranty if I drill it in any way, Aqueon has a great customer service they sent me a new sump in 2 days and did not want the old one back but it leaks, if I find a way to secure the wall to the Refugium I will post it, If you are looking for a Berlin or want to use the optional bio balls I am sure this would be great But I have a Green Mandarin and have been trying to keep pods in the Refugium but the flow is to high and if the wall drops most of them get pushed into chamber 3 and up to the display tank they are eaten quickly.

i needed a sump for both my current 60 gallon and wanted something I could expand for my next tank a 100 gallon reef. This fits in my cabinet, is flexible for either refugium or berlin style sump and its nice and quiet!
Good for a starter sump By Casey on 3/6/2013

I purchased the Model 3 ProFlex for my first saltwater system which is a 90 gallon tank. I can say that it was good for starting out, but I added a 15 gallon tank for my refugium because I did not have enough room to have a refugium, protein skimmer, and carbon reactor in it. I would not recommend drilling it for an external pump because the plastic walls are a little too weak.

I am very pleased with this product. It can be easily changed to fit your aquariums. It is great for reef aquariums with the advanced filtration. There is a lot of room to add a large Refugium and skimmer. You just need to buy a return pump and your ready to roll!

I am very pleased with this product. It is setup as a modular unit that can be be easily made into any popular style of pump. I got a model 2 (set up Berlin style) for my 75gal reef and couldn't be happier with it.
It is held underneath my tank in a stand compartment and holds all my goodies. Reactor in/outs, heater, ATO, and over sized skimmer.

I got the model 3 for my 120 gallon tank and at first i had my skimmer in the return chamber, witch was a bad idea since i was getting a ton of micro bubbles in the DT. so i removed the socks from the first chamber and plumbed thg skimmer in the first section added some live rock and made a nice 5 inch sand bed in the refugium and added some macro algae and cant complain . water is so clear and the skimmer is skimming all the nasty poo and uneaten fish food. and no bubbles in the DT any more. my only regrt i wish i got model 4 could have had more room in the first and second stage to have more live rock in it. P.S i added a 1200 maxi jet to the first stage so i don't have any detritus stuck under the live rocks and the skimmer does the rest so there is no need for any filter socks changes or cleaning, very maintenance free.
Shockingly quiet, great for a berlin, a stretch as a refugium By jeff on 11/4/2012

The design is EXTREMELY quiet, i can just barely hear the water in the sump when i close the cabinet doors, this was my primary objective for this purchase. A lot of space is used up on the filter sock chamber so make sure that your equipment is going to fit in the other 2 chambers before buying. My skimmer is the diablo xs160 and it just barely fit in chamber 2 of the model 3. I played around with the skimmer in chamber 3 thinking i would pull off a refugium in chamber 2 but it just didn't work out mostly due to the fact that i couldn't get the water level in chamber 3 to the depth that was needed for the skimmer without having the water level being pretty darn close to overflow when all the power was off.

I bought this sump thinking it was the latest sump technology, when in fact it isn't. The latest methods require alterations in the sump. The refugium and sump compartments are opposite of what many experts have recommended. Not many skimmers will fit in the compartment intended for it. I recieved a model 2 that just fits under my stand and have been working out how to make it do all I want. I recommend deciding which sump method you want and then seeing if someone has done it with that model.

I found that this sump was well built and does its purpose well. The skimmer in the same chamber as the return pump is far from ideal but with some foam placement and a little trial and error you can make it work out without micro bubbles in the display tank.
If you have a skimmer that has the option to run your feed pump remotely like the Aqua-c ev series this totally solves the issue. But over all its a good purchase and worth the money if you dont want to mess with silicone and glass to make your own sump.

well built, sturdy, and great value. got the model 2 for a 72g bowfront, and fits perfectly under the standard cabinet for that bowfront tank. still skeptical about the skimmer being in the same chamber as the return pump, and microbubbles will be an issue. I eliminated a lot of that issue by putting one of them round black sponge prefilter on the output of the skimmer. seems to work for the time being

Good product with a few minor issues By AG on 1/9/2012

The sump is big and pretty cool.
The acrylic is a little thin. On mine, the top acrylic plate near the two intake holes bows.
Water splashes up from the intake area and creates a lot of salt creep between the same, bowed top acrylic plate and the adjacent, black removable plate. The salt creep gets on the top of the unit and drips down 2 sides.
There is no provided method to fix the black plastic divider plate between the filter sock chamber and the refugium chamber. I have no clue why that is the case.
Overall, this is a good product. Someone with a limited budget can probably make the same sort of product DIY with a 30 gallon used aquarium and bunch of acrylic plates, time and patience.

i got the proflex model 1 for a 36 gallon bowfront which was the only model that would fit under the stand...alot of folks have problems with finding a skimmer that will fit it in the second chamber bc of the limited space...i was able to get an asm mini g to fit nicely in the second chamber and it works perfectly no micro bubbles with this setup....which now leaves me plenty of space in the third chamber to add a reactor.....

Micro Bubbles stink By Demetrios on 3/7/2011
Demetrios wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I cant say I would recommend this item to anyone. I like the sump over all but having the skimmer and the return pump in the same chamber just doesnt make much sense. I have way too many micro bubbles re-entering my tank to make me a happy customer. There is a baffle where you can have your skimmer flow go into and then through the sponge back into the return chamber, but my skimmer output sits to low to go into there. My option is to RAISE the skimmer, but then it wont be in the recommended water height. Or I can put a 90 elbow going up, then another 90 go across and down, to get the outflow into that chamber. I think that will create too much head pressure on the skimmer and it will not operate as it should. For me the only option is to change skimmer, but I dont think thats really a solution. The problem is having a skimmer/return in the same baffle. Everything else about this sump is great, but this is a major flaw IMO.
Just OK By Gregory on 1/19/2011

I ordered a model1 due to my limited room. I have a couple issues right away first off the second chamber is vary small this i was aware of. How ever the manual says a coral life 65 will only fit in this sump in the berlin method upon a closer look the berlin method probably looses 2 or 3 gallons of water which is mostly what i am looking for so i set it up as a refugium with an external pump and managed to fit my skimmer in the third chamber. This alternative even with the output venting onto the buble difuser sponge still caused quite a bubble storm. Would be ok if all you are looking for is a gain of water and a small refugium, I am sure the larger ones operate much better however if i had the room there are other much cheaper options.
