Loved this tester. No more other test for me. The digital read out makes it soo much easier. I'm getting the calcium checker for Christmas I liked this one soo much. Thanks for providing a great product. Just read the instructions and maybe review a youtube video on using it. The system has a timeout and you need to complete all the actions within a certain amount of time, but there is enough time if you are prepared.

I've been using this product for a few months and the only thing I could suggest is that Hanna make a liquid reagent available. Accuracy is right on with Salifert test kit.

This unit is as close to lab results as you can get. Just 2 simple steps and wait the 3 minutes for the results. Much easier than matching a color to a card.

I totally like having a digital read out instead of try to match colors like the other test kits, but the Hanna Checker is a little hard to use. You have to be able to open a packet with a wide opening and pour it into a very small hole, in a short amount of time. It comes with two curvettes so I started using one for the "zero" and the other for the phos reading. I still don't like the packets though, it's hard to empty all the contents without spilling reagent powder.

The Hanna Phosphate Checker is a great product that makes testing phosphate so easy and accurate. I tested the unit against another more expensive product and it was spot on in three different tanks. Can't wait to get my Calcium checker and then the Alkalinity...I hear they are also releasing a Magnesium checker as well.

Finally able to check something without mixing a bunch of chemicals. It's easy to use, and accurate. What more do you need? The only problem I had with my tester was that the tester flip top lid is very tight and difficult to open without using your fingernails, but I am sure it will loosen over time. I am just thrilled that about not having to pay 40 to 70 dollars for 25 liquid chemical phosphate laboratories anymore.

I bought this to keep my Phosphates in check since color card tests are inaccurate and VERY hard to read. I must say that I am impressed with the accuracy! Several tests on the same water sample resulted in the same numbers over and over.

My only real problems with the unit is the lid is VERY hard to open. If you have short fingernails or arthritis you make have problems getting the lid open. Another other problem is the reagents. I really wish they were in liquid form, it is hard to pour the dry powder in the tiny opening of the vial.

Finally the automatic shutoff timer of 2 minutes between C1 and C2 is much too fast! The powder does not dissolve quickly enough and you risk ruining the test if the unit times out. A more lengthy time period is needed here if dry powder reagents are going to continue to be used.

Other than these small problems the Hanna Phosphate Checker is genius!

There is no other way to go. My local reef store recommend the Hanna, I ordered it, and there is no going back. Just be sure to follow instructions on keeping cuvettes clean, unscratched, and not introducing bubbles when testing. Standard test kits cannot be relied on, the Hanna is the way to go.

phosphate test kit read 0 phosphates (too little color to see), but i still had some microalgae growing on the glass i had to clean off every few days. Switched to Hanna, i actually had .08 phosphate. Now i'm down below .02 on the Hanna, no more microalgae on the glass. Results speak for themselves, i'll never go back.

This has been one of my best moves yet. Takes all of the guess work out of the equation. 3 minutes and your done. LCD shows you clear and easy to read results with ample amount of time before the unit shuts off.
One thing though when you mix your reagent you gotta be quick you only have about 1 1/2 minutes to do so and set the checker. I find that shaking the vial vigorously and then slowly rotating it from left to right to remove the fine bubbles gives you enough time to get the vial in the checker and set the timer. I will be purchasing more Hanna checkers in the near future.

This has been a giant step up from the old testing methods I have used in the past. I have never liked the color charts and the math involved. When I see a chance to go digital I am normally first in line to give it a shot. I don't think the instructions or simplicity of the colorimeter could be any better! The only problem I have with the system is actually getting the reagent in the vile. I have wasted 2 packets so far due to not all of the powder making it in. After that I wised up and purchased a small funnel (one to put fluid in a flask) and it has been smooth sailing from there on.

I like this checker. It works well. But I wish I could change the setting on the auto-shut off to last longer than 10 seconds.
It takes 3 minute to process. If I get side tracked and pay attention to something else I miss the 10 seconds in which the result is displayed. Then I have to use up another reagent package and start all over.

Always had trouble reading those color based checkers. This test kit defintely takes out most of the guesswork. Still takes some work to check but at least you know you are getting a good reading! One downside - buying all the refills could get pricey after a while.

Great little meter. Do read through the instructions first to get use to the symbols on the screen and the timing. You don't have a lot of time (but it's enough) and you will get use to it. Do buy an extra set of test reagents. The test is so much easier to perform you will actual do it so those first 6 test won't last that long.
I actually store one of the tubes inside the checker to make extra room in the case.

If I had any downside I would say the clasp on the case seems a little cheap, I think over time it might have issues. But none yet.

Purchased this along with the HC GFO. Will NEVER go back to a color chart test kit. When we used our other test kits for PO4, we had to walk through the house trying to get good light for an accurate reading. Now, all I have to do is read the meter while sitting at the table. Super easy to use. Makes me want to test more often since it's so easy. Also purchased the additional packets of reagent since this kit only comes with 6. A++

It works well and easy to use. Get the extra reagents you will want them down the road. Make sure you are watching it when its done as the reading only stays around for a short bit.

I have always hated test phosphates. I am color bind and have trouble comparing the slight shades of most test kits. This product solves my problem. Its well made and simple to use.

My only complaint is that it only comes with enough powder to do 6 tests. Otherwise, it's worth it.

This makes testing for Phos simple. The other test kits make it a guessing game. There is no guessing here. Follow the simple instructions, and there you have it.

I use both tubes, one for calibration, then the second has the reagent mixed in.

The only down side, that I hope they address for future kits, would be that you only have a few seconds to see the results, and then their gone.

If your buying this, also grab a refill of the reagent. 6 packets won't last as long as you think. Given how easy the test is to preform, you will find yourself actually doing them!

I was following BRS’s recommendation to change the material when I started seeing algae growth or had to clean my glass more often than normal. This worked pretty well but the checker is a pretty big upgrade from that. Now I can change it before I start to see more algae growth. The checker also allows me to use the GFO to max capacity and I am sure will save me money over the long run.

I purchased this tester to test the phosphates. I was using a Salifert kit, but like most test kits, there is a lot of judgment and room for error when reading.

The Hanna kit is easy to use. It is is simple as filling a tube, inserting it to calibrate, taking the tube out, put the powder in, then insert again. 3 minutes later it gives results. It has its own timer so counts down the 3 minutes for you.

An additional comment is it comes with a handful of powder to test, so if you want to test daily for more than a week, you may want to get extra powder.
