This skimmer outperforms all the other skimmers that I have used. Also very quiet

OK so I can't give a complete review since the skimmer has only been operating for about three hours, but I am very impressed so far.

I had upsized to a 90-gallon tank but my old skimmer wasn't able to handle the new load. The manufacturer rated the BH1000 up to 100 gallons, but BRS rated it good to 75 gallons, so I decided to go with the BH2000 instead. No regrets!

The construction of the unit is solid, and the amount of noise was significantly less than what I was expecting based on reviews I had read. Much less noise than my OLD Aqua C skimmer. The pump itself is quiet, but I think the return water may be making a little noise.

The instructions weren't detailed, but what did need to be assembled was easy to put together. I found the circular foam pads that diffuse bubbles to have a strong chemical smell, so I am soaking these still to try to get rid of it. I don't really think they are needed as there aren't any small bubbles in the return water to be dealt with.

The skimmer has produced about 1/4" of skimmate after only a few hours, and my water is already visibly clearer.

The only minor issue I have with the skimmer is that the openings on the intake filter are arguably large enough for either of my yellow clown gobies or a smaller snails to get into. It is unlikely for these fish to swim into the intake for the skimmer, but I have covered the intake openings with a coarse mesh plastic bag to be safe.

I am a Canadian customer and found the process pain-free. I ordered on Thursday (as requested by BRS) and the skimmer arrived, duty-paid, the following Wednesday.

I wanted this skimmer for my under aquarium sump/refugium. I called Coralvue to make sure the size of the skimmer would fit under my aquarium. I didn't get the right sizes and the BH2000 was more than 10 inches above my sump and won't fit under my tank. Overall the skimmer looks great. However, since I had opened the box I can't return it to BRS. Even if they would take it back BRS would charge me for their shipping cost to send the unit to me plus my cost to ahip it back to them. So now I have a brand new BH2000 for sale that I have own 2 days and not able to use or return. Not real happy with BRS's return policy or Coralvue for giving the wrong demensions.

As with most OCTOPUS products this thing is awesome. I am running this skimmer on a 40g breeder SPS dominant tank.. it took a good week of fighting micro-bubbles for it to brake in. but let me tell you once it did i have been getting some great skimate. i find myself cleaning the collection cup on a daily basses and the best thing i have found for this is a baby bottle brush... you wont be disappointed with this skimmer

Instructions are lacking, but the translation is kind of fun to read. After about 2 weeks of running in the bedroom, it is a little louder than I expected for noise. There is a trickling/gurgling sound from the water going into the return, a noticeable hum from the motor, and a sucking noise from the intake. All of these things are perfectly normal, but combined making enough noise in a small room to keep a light sleeper awake. $10 of foam from a fabric store has taken the edge of the noise, but not a perfect solution.

I would have had to hack my acrylic aquarium up to get this to fit! The design is obviously for glass only tanks, Did not like that there is no flexibility as far as mounting and drain options. Looks like I am saving for a sump and better skimmer!

It was a little overwhelming when I opened the box, but it really was not too difficult to put together. This thing is a beast, was skimming junk out my water almost immediately! Highly recommend.

This skimmer is a real work horse! The gunk that it is pulling from my tank is amazing. The pump that comes with the deluxe package is just right and I am very pleased with the results! The unit is quiet, not silent but good enough for me. I have had mine running for several months and it works great! I would recommend this to anyone who does not have a sump.

I just got this skimmer, been running one week now, started skimming the first night in my tank. It is running on a 75 gallon right now,so far no problems with it. Yes the instructions are not that good if you are not familiar with skimmers, but its pretty self explanatory where the parts go, and there are some videos online you can look up if you need help to assemble it. This is the second HOB skimmer i have owned and i really like this one.Did not have any micro bubble problems and i do not have any gurgling sounds that i have read people have with this skimmer.I would purchase another one of these skimmers if i ever needed another one for a tank.

Had this set up in an hour and another hour later it was collecting brown nasty stuff in the collection cup!!!

I am running this on a 60 gal. reef tank and love it. It pulls alot of gunk out the water. I really like that on the water return side there is plenty of room for a bag of carbon and a heater. And the pump is external also one less thing inside my aquarium.

Thanks to everyone at BRS for the answers to my questions before I bought it. I have a 92 gallon corner bow front and the skimmer is perfect. Easy to set up and already skimming on a new tank with 65 lbs of rock.

After a lot of research this skimmer seems like the best bang for the buck as far as HOB skimmers go. Very few micro bubbles. Works just fine for my 80 gallon reef.

I've had remora pro and several other hob skimmers and the bh 2000 is the absolute best. I had it on a 32 gallon while cycling dry live rock and in the first 4 days it was already full of thick skimmate. Not the watered down skimmate you would expect. Now its on my 75 gallon reef tank and works wonderfully. Construction is heavy duty. Works as well as an in sump skimmer.

I bought this BH2000 because it was so highly recommended on many websites and reviews. I'm hoping it will be as good as they say. The problem I had other than the lack of directions was that the thing was so LOUD at first. I had to run in a bucket of water in the office since it was too loud to go in the living room. After about a week and a half and strategically placed Styrofoam it is tolerable in the living room. I plan on soundproofing it even more.
I will say that BRS customer support agent, Lue Vang, and Coralvue support was responsive and helpful.

THIS THING HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A HEADACHE SINCE DAY ONE GOT IT IN MAIL PUT TOGETHER INSTRUCTIONS SUCKED THEN AFTER I GOT IT ALL GOING AND HOOKED UP I NOTICED IT JUST DIDNT SEEM LIKE THE PUMP WAS STRONG AT ALL THIS ISNT MY FIRST RODEO IVE OWNED SEVERAL HOB PROTEIN SKIMMERS AND SEEMS THEY ALL SUCK BUT SINCE I HAVE NO ROOM FOR A SUMP IM STUCK WITH THESE I KNOW THERES A GOOD 10 DAY BREAK IN BEFORE YOU REALLY START SEEING IT GO TO TOWN BUT YOU THINK AFTER 4 MONTHS IT START WORKING BUT NO NOT THE CASE THE MOST I GET FROM IT IS A GREENISH LIQUID IN MY CUP AND AFTER THE FIRST MONTH I GOT TO CLEAN AND PLUG BACK IN GUESS WHAT IT DONT WANT TO FIRE BACK UP HAD TO UNPLUG PLUG IN UNPLUG PLUG IN TILL IT GOT GOING BAD SIGN NEXT MOTH I GO TO DO MY CLEANING AND SAME THING BUT THIS TIME I HAD TO BREAK IT DOWN TAKE APART PUT BACK TO GETHER AND AFTER ABOUT 15 MIN OF THE PLUGIN THING IT FIRED BACK UP SAME THING THE NEXT MONTH NOW THIS MONTH TODAY ITS DOA I SPENT ALMOST $200 ON THIS THING IT NEVER WORKED RIGHT AND LASTED 4 MONTHS .... NOW FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE LAST MONTH I CALLED IT IN THEY COULDNT HELP OVER PHONE TOLD ME TO CALL MANUFACTURE SO I DID AND THEY WOULDN'T RETURN MY PHONE CALL AND JUST KEEP LEAVING MESSAGES MY ADVICE TO ALL IS DO NOT BUY NOT WORTH THE CASH

beats the heck out of my hob prizim. i was lucky to get one cup a month out of it. but this one i am emptying ever other day and you can tell it is pulling some nasty stuff out cause it smells nasty! the only problem, you have to disasymble the return to get at the sponge but other than that i would buy again.

As far as HOBs go, Im very happy with this skimmer. It does a good job on my 55g reef.

Installed it onto my tank as soon as I received it and almost immediately it started getting a nasty green colored skimate. The next day it seemed to be broken in And started pulling some dark green skimate. Really quiet and efficient skimmer. Works awesome. Could have came with instructions tho.

this is a great unit it does two jobs at once and does them both very well it started producing skimate rightaway I would not think of getting anything else for a tank with only a canister and not a sump

I have had this skimmer running for about 2 weeks on my 55 gallon and it has preformed very well. It made quite a few bubbles at first, but after some adjustments, bubble production is very low.

I put this on my 75gal tank with 6 fish in it. For the first couple of days it was returning micro bubbles, but it did start working immediately. After 3 days all I can say is WOW!!! With my fish load I am emptying the cup 2 times a week with dark nasty skimmate. The instructions were pretty easy to follow and the unit installed quickly. The unit is also fairly quiet.

This skimmer is awesome! I replaced my Remora Pro with this one recently and could not be happier with the results. Definitely made a HUGE difference in my tank. Highly recommended if you must go with a HOB skimmer.

This skimmer is no joke!!! It sets the bar for HOB skimmers. It produced dark nasty skim in two hour after I hooked it up. I had some micro bubbles for the first few days but they are gone now. Its a must for tanks with out a sump.

Never thought for the price it would work as good as it does. The skimmer took a couple of days to break in the it produced tons of bubbles. The collection cup is now cleaned every couple of days and is half full of stinky nastiness. Great buy!

I used this skimmer only for a short period, because I ended up adding a sump and going with an in sump skimmer. The BH2000 was used to upgrade from another HOB skimmer, and I much prefered the BH2000. The surface skimmer works wonderfully, and will remove all the surface gunk. The skimmer removed a much darker skimmate than my previous HOB skimmer. This skimmer was cheaper than my previous and worked much better. Was very happy with it.
