i bought this skimmer a little over a year ago. and am currently planning an upgrade of my tank size and without a question will be buying a reef octopus skimmer to go in that system as well. put it in your cart and your fish will thank you

Im just going to make this simple ... I was new to this hobby 1 year ago and thought i would save some money on some cheap skimmers for my tank .. being new to the game caused me to not know what a GOOD skimmer would do .. I thought my cheap no name skimmers where doing great !! That was until I bought my first Reef Octopus .. I now know what a skimmer is saposed to do ...it dosent matter it Your looking at the 4 inch or 6 inch reef Octopus , it will pay you back for every dollar you spend on it ...

I bought this for my 120 g DT , total volume 200g and it works very good. This is the best price you would get anywhere. And Reef octopus is the best brand to go with!
This will do the work, as well as the $600 one.

Only problem I found was that the skimmer inside the box was not exactly like the one pictured on the box cover. The outlet tube from the skimmer was a very short gray tube and not like the red longer tube on the box cover. This makes the water exiting from the skimmer just above the pump itself which means you cannot place this very deep into your sump. I will have to make my own tube or let the company know the problem.

I purposely waited a few months to write this review, because I wanted to get some use out of this thing beforehand. While I have a low bio-load at the moment, this thing still pulls out some nasty stuff, so I can imagine what it's going to do once I add my trigger and they all start growing. After a few weeks of operation, the skimmer has quieted down significantly, for those concerned about noise.

I did contact CoralVue for a tighter fitting pipe where the gate valve sits on, and the rubber caps for the air valves, which they sent out for free; their customer service was excellent!

The ONLY negative that I can see is that CV had to bump up the price due to manufacturing costs from when I bought mine.

I was reluctant to get this skimmer, but I needed one in a bad way, and the reviews are great, so I stuck it in the cart and it was on it's way.

when I opened the box, I was impressed at the packaging. First off, BRS took the skimmer box and put it in their own box filled with a massive amount of peanuts. Inside the skimmer box, you will find a Styrofoam mold of the skimmer that holds it securely. It went together very quickly and after sticking the air tube on, I took it over to the tank.

When I got there, I found out that my 12" sump was not exactly 12". On the outside it was, but on the inside, the 3/16" acrylic took up just enough that I had to set the skimmer in there in a way that I didn't want to. But, I got it in there.

Once I fired it up, as it should have, it started producing bubbles. In less than 30 minutes, I had some light skimmate in the cup. Yup, it was running very wet. I waited a week playing with the settings, and boom, it was perfect. Very little playing around and now, I'm having to empty the cup about every 3 days.

One down side, my sump has a much higher water level than this skimmer suggests. The valve sits on a pipe that is MUCH shorter than it shows in the pictures. For this reason, I had to put the exit of the valve under the water with the knob just above the water. I was worried that it would over flow the cup, but to my surprise with the very finely tunable valve, it's perfect even when it's submerged! I was very surprised.

I'm building a new sump and I will be adding the correct length tube and put it at the correct level in the sump.

Other than that one pipe, I have NOTHING bad to say about this skimmer. Wait, let me dig a bit. There was two pieces of tape that was holding on the lid to the cup, and the tape was broke when I got it. It's weak tape, but it's hard to get off the acrylic. Okay, now we are digging really deep for issues lol. It's a great skimmer, you will love it! This should be BRS Recommended!!!

This thing is a monster! After spending hours doing research I'm glad I went with this skimmer!. Easy setup and very good quality.

Just got my skimmer and this thing is a beast! Its the best skimmer I've had by far.

This was extremely easy to setup and within just a few minutes it was making a nice thick foam. Within 5 minutes I already had brown foam collecting! I don't know how I ran without this on my 75g with 20g sump!

Amazing product, after running it in a 3 hour vinegar bath it only took 4 or 5 days to start pulling tons of thick dark skimmate. Has made a world of difference in my 90G reef tank, huge upgrade from my Coralife skimmer. Great value for the price!

Pretty much designed my sump around this skimmer. 75g FOWLR with a 20L sump. Worth every penny.

Now maybe this will be unfair but holy smokes I was running a seaclone 100 so I know its not apples to oranges but this thing is quality top to bottom my first item from BRS but definitely not the last reef saver rock here I come btw super fast delivery great way to check on ship status I could go on and on

I received this product as a gift and absolutely love it, 2 minor flaws..the riser pipe to the gate valve provided is extremely loose and easily slips apart and the silencer is apparently supposed to come with a rubber cap. After reading threads on a forum...Im going to contact Coral Vue directly and they will quickly send out replacements according to other comments about this type of problem with the risers. Overall a great experience and looking forward to purchasing more items from BRS!

This is the first "in-sump" skimmer ive ever purchased and by my friends reactions and the way it performs, i know i got a good one :) within mins... yes mins, not hours, i had a nice lookin smoothie in the collection cup. Definitely worth the money and Easy hook up and Install for sure!!

Installed it with no problems.. started producing right away with little adjustment. Definately the best skimmer I have ever had. Only took 3 days to get it. Can't ask for more.

This is very well made, runs very quiet, easy to adjust... and it's amazing how much nasty gunk this pulls out of your tank. Not sure you could get much better no matter how much you spend!

Of all of the equipmet I purchased for my 135 reef tank, this was by far te best money I have spent! Cloudy when I went to bed, crystal clear in teh morning and half a bucket full of skimmate! WOW!

This is a beast.I have to clean the cup out every week.The only problem I had was the water returning from the skimmer, out of the gate value, splashed loud.Also be mindful that the skimmer has metric plumbing,but mine did come with an adapter.

I had a similar skimmer on my 90 gallon mixed reef tank but mostly sps about 2 years ago. The only reason I sold it online was because I was separating with my bf/partner after 14 years together. Let me tell you that I just got back into it again and it's funny looked at everything and got the same one but it is a bit upgraded. THIS THING IS A WORKHORSE!!!! I love it very much and it was money well worth put into my new set-up. I am very happy with BRS and all their products especially me I'm a preferred customer makes you feel good to save some money each time you make a purchase. This is an excellent quality skimmer at a great price. It's easy to adjust and was pulling nice skimmate within a day. Highly recommended.

The single best peice of equipment I have. I am so happy with it. Every other item I have bought that's mechanical for my reef I find flaws in this however is not true it's silent, works great, and best of all well worth the $$$

I have this on my 75 gallon. It does an amazing job of producing anything from a wet skim to thick gunk depending what my needs are at the moment!

Recently purchased this skimmer here at BRS, amaizing service, quick shipping, and an extreme overuse of packing peanuts! They really care about the product getting from them to you! This skimmer is exactly what I wanted with my 75g dt and 30g sump, started producing bubbles in very short order! great product hands down.

We have both this skimmer and one size down, and for the little bit more money for this skimmer you get a lot more performance, and you dont need an external pump so its practically cheaper after the pump is added into the equation. this is larger than the 4in model, and it surely performs far better! highly recommended.

This skimmer performs well for the price. some 'tinkering' is necessary with water level depending upon your skimming preferences, but i found the gate valve easy to adjust and the recommending operating water levels to be ideal for my sump. I use it on a 90 gallon mixed reef with 30 gallon sump. Lot's of gunk!

This skimmer supplements an SWC 160 cone, that replaced a bubble magus. Running side by side, the SWC (with the crappy atman 2500) tends to create many more fine bubbles than the Octopus, but oddly enough, the Octopus pulls more gunk. So I have them set up to fill the collection cups more or less equally, and the skimmate from the SWC is much thinner and clearer than the gunk from the Octo. This is only one week in, and nowhere near the 3-4 week 'breakin period' being over. So all in all, a fantastic skimmer for the price!!

Plug and play is a great feature of this skimmer. Once it breaks in it skims hard. Sucking out way more waste than my old one. Great product

For the money, this big guy is hard to beat.

Mine came with my tank used (supposedly ~1yr old) but it runs like a champ.

Easy to adjust, but as another reviewer said "set it & forget it". Cup is easily removed for cleaning.

Hi everyone! I purchased this Skimmer knowing the Brand name as a Amazing performing product 1st off, and second, my Mother has the HOB on her Fowlr and have seen what it can do! This Skimmer has been running on my 90g Mixed Reef Aquarium for......close to 28 hours now and is ( I didn't even believe it would ) already producing more skimmate than my previous one! I have been told by many it can take from 1-4 weeks to even get it dialed in and skimming. My 2 eyes don't lie, and have seen already (not even 3 days yet) seen what this Skimmer is capable of + so much more! A HUGE THUMBS UP TO REEF OCTOPUS, AND BRS! : )

First off i wanna say , i've only owned my skimmer for about 2 weeks. And i bought this for my 75 gallon reef tank. Here's what i know about it now. Its seems to be made well. Easy to install ( as long as you have a big enough sump). With that said, In my opinion your sump needs to be about 12" wide, With a water height of At least 6". To me this thing is huge. Way bigger than i thought. Keep in mind i dont work for reef octopus , so if your any where close to those numbers check with them. Skims well after one day of warming up. Overall great product, also BRS is awesome to! Keep those demo videos coming , how great would it be to have a video for every single product on the site!

After 6 months of owning this skimmer... I had to ship it back to Coralvue... In about a week the repaired it and shipped it back .. GREAT SERVICE and I think the skimmer is working even better as if that were possible !!! Thanks Bulk Reef and Coral Vue .. You have another satisfied customer

I had this skimmer for about 6 months then it died.. I'm hoping there will not be an issue with honoring the warranty

This skimmer works great and is a great value. i will say that for some reason if i unplug it, or the power goes out i have to blow in the air inlet tube to get it to start working again, i am unsure why this happens but other than that great valued skimmer
