Never will buy another Finnex product By Furcifer on 4/5/2015

#1 After owning the HMO-200 heater for 2 months the instructions got wet. I threw them away. I then looked on the Finnex website for a set of printable instructions and to my dismay, they have none. They have no instructions for any of their products. I then contacted them in regards to getting a PDF or a set of txt instructions that I could print. They would/could not provide me with a set of instructions. I really could not understand why a company would not list a set of instructions on their website. Cobalt/Eheim/Aquavia all list instructions on their sites.
#2 After 5 months of use, I noticed that it was no longer holding to the stated +/-2 degree threshold. One day it would be 72 degrees then the next it would be 81 degrees. I contacted them about this issue. It took them 2 weeks to reply to my RMA request, and they asked a bunch of questions like, Did I try it in a different outlet? Was it hooked to a GFCI outlet? Did I recently have a power outage or power surge?, I answered all of their questions over the course of a week. They then asked me to send it to them. I sent it USPS Priority Mail. It cost $14. A week after they received the heater, I got a reply from them stating that the heater was no longer under warranty. If I would like the heater back, I would have to send them $22 for postage. I explained that the heater was malfunctioning during the warranty period and I contacted them prior to the warranty expiration date. I will never purchase another Finnex product again. Their measly 180 day warranty speaks volumes about how much faith they have in their products. Especially since companies like Cobalt Aquatics and Eheim all have 3 year warranties on their heaters.
From their website:
Products are warranted by JSK Merchandising Inc. To the original purchaser against defective material and workmanship under normal use for a period of 180 days from the date of the original purchase.

Heater has been installed for about two weeks and has held the set temperature fine. Unit appears to be calibrated correctly as I have checked it against a glass thermometer. If the unit has any issues I will update the review to let others know my experience. Right now though its rocking!

I purchased this one because of its all-in-one capability, i.e. the digital reader attached to the heater. After the initial beeping of the digital reader because my water was cooler than 64 degrees, it has been perfect! I would purchase another one for sure.

This heater seems to be much more consistent than the glass heater I use on my freshwater setup and the digital display makes getting the temperature set very easy. I have 2, one is off by 2 degrees and the other by 1 degree, but the product description does say it's accurate to +/- 2 degrees. Easy enough to adjust once you know how accurate the one you get truly is.

I purchased this heater to replace a one of the "name bran" glass heaters that i have used in my tank, the glass heaters that i have used have only worked about a year at best before failing in the on position, I like the fact that the temp probe is separate for the heater. works well and very accurate

I've been very pleased with this heater it keeps my daughter's 37 gallon tank within about 1/2 Degree F. It's only a couple months old so how long it will last is unknown. Compared to the previous heater that had 2+ degree flux throughout the day this one is much better. The unit is a bit bulky, but for the price you can't go wrong.

So far, so good for this heater. I like the rubber caps on the end of the heater that keep it from directly contacting the sump. I also like that they give a long wire to the sensor so you get reading from somewhere besides right next to the heater.
If the durability is good, I'll be ordering this product again.

Solid heater that has a nice and easy to read display. The only bad thing I can say about this product is that when you first set up your tank, this thing will beep until it reaches your threshold temperature setting.
I like that it comes with a probe which you can place a separate compartment from where your heater is located in your sump. Can't be a thermometer and heater all in one. Nice way to keep it simple and within budget.

It is compact and the remote temp prob can be placed away from the element so that the temp is more accurate. I like that it has bulbous ends which keeps the element off the sides or bottom of the tank. I have the 300w on my 90G display tank and a 150w on my 29 Biocube. Both mine are within +- 1F of the set temp and does not drop even in a room 10 degrees cooler than the tank.

I was surprised when I opened up this heater. If has a nice digital read out and allows for mounting above the sump. My only complaint with the product so far is that depending on how you have your sump arranged, routing the power cord behind the tank, it might not be long enough to reach the end. Otherwise, great little heaters.

Titanium tube is nice and small for the output compared to the average glass one.
The only complaints are:
Temp probe is a bit off, be sure to check it with a glass thermometer.
It would be nice if the low temperature alarm could be silenced, I used this to warm RODI a few times and it gets annoying.

I have to say its been so far. It's off by 1 degree but is holding consistent. Best heater I've found so far in this price range. I do wish manufactures would add some weight to the temp probe so it stays down if the suction cup comes off the grass. I zip tied the probe to my skimmer rack and that solved the problem.

i own every size of the heaters and use them for quarantine tanks, water make up tank, my 75 gallon mixed reef tank and planning on using the non controlled one on my 120 build being controlled with my apex.. 2 tips.. buy whats recommended for your tank or go smaller and buy 2 of them and placing one in your return and your input section ( being redundant) if one breaks you still have one running and if one breaks in the on position it will be hard for it to climb that high and hopefully giving you time to get to the problem… the second tip is compensate for the thermometer.. all the ones I've owned have been slightly off ,one by 2 degrees one by 3 degrees the other by 4 degrees.. so knowing this you can adjust the heater to shut off minus whatever the temp you want.. i aim for 77 degrees so my heaters are at 75,74 and 73… this might annoy a lot of people but to be honest none of these heaters I've ever owned that had to be dialed in on top of them were correct anyways… I've had to turn up or turn down the heaters to dial it in to my ideal temp anyways.. so at least you get a digital read out and the titanium heater that won't shatter on you..

I bought this to replace my Fluval heater that went out. The heater is small and compact but puts out a lot of heat. I found it very accurate and reading the same temp my chiller reads which is the first heater that hasn't been off a few degrees. It never fluctuates more than 1 degree. The controller is easy to use and I haven't experience the loud beeping that everyone talks about so we'll see. I'd definitely recommend it but I'll have to see if it will last longer than 2 yrs. The temp probe is small and easy to hide in my nano tank. be careful when working in the tank. I almost burned myself by touching the heater by accident. I wish it came w/a fish guard because it can get pretty hot even in the water when it kicks on.

great heater just off a few degrees By turbotone on MR on 12/15/2013
turbotone on MR would recommend this product to a friend
i purchased a few of these heaters due to the fact they are titanium and won't break which eliminates one of the common failure with heaters.. i own 2 150watts with controllers both used for my 20 gallon tall tanks (one for make up water the other for quarantine) 3 200 watt with controllers 2 for my 90 display 30 sump setup (one in the return chamber and one in the first chamber) not really necessary but i like to be redundant as the set up is not a tech tank but very simple.. the other 200watt is just a spare.. then for my 120 build tech build I'm planning on using 2 300 watts without controller bc I'm planning on monitoring the temp off my neptunes controller..
with all the heater with controllers that i have owned the temperature reading has been off by 4 degrees (3.8 degrees to be exact) so to keep my display at 78 i set the temp on the controller to 74 degrees.. same goes for my 20 gallons.. these heaters are strong so rule of go 1 size bigger is definitely not needed.. stick with correct size on the chart.. my 150 watt heater brings up 65 degree of rodi water in the 20 gallon tank to 78 in about 2 hrs tops.. i think 2 150s would be ideal for my 90 dt and 2 200watts for my my 120 would be better which i might do being my heater rarely cuts on like then anyway.. again one of the heaters might be ok i use two to be redundant..
i gave it 4 stars bc the compensation of degrees that needs to be done but really its not that serious.. would get 5 stars if the temp read perfect.. will tune in next december 2104 to give an update on the heaters..

Works great. I had my eye on another heater that wasn't as good and when I called in to ask about it the guy I talked to pointed me in the right direction. I ended up taking his advice and ordering this heater. It worked perfectly straight out of the box. Like many other reviews have said it is off by about two degrees but I plugged the heater into my Apex and the apex controls when the heater comes on and off, which crushed the degree issue. This heater is simple to use and super trustworthy. It is all metal, and it has an alarm for low and high water temperatures. If you hear a beep, it's time to run to your tank! I haven't had a problem with it, and it is easy to read from across the room. The only thing I had any problems with were the directions! lol

Consider if not using a controller By Starrme on 4/29/2013
Starrme would recommend this product to a friend
Overall: Bought this as my first heater and have already replaced for my main tank. The digital display isn't a major benefit to me because I am using a controller. I will continue to use for heating my water change SW.
- Lights up when heating
- Digital temp setting and display
- Read out is on outside of tank
- Has separate temp measurement probe
- Makes a loud beeping noise when initially placed in cold water.
- Metal hooks to hold display too narrow for my sump rim
- Digital display is bulky
- Accurate to within 2 degrees
Note: If temp is significantly out of range, the heater will beep continuously. I thought my heater was broken when this first happened. The beeping is a warning mechanism for if the heater fails but is a major pain when using to heat up new ro/di water.
Easy Set Up Easy Read By Alexandria on 4/18/2013

This was super easy to set up and I like the digital read out. No more squinting on the old timey thermometers. Got the JBJ Digital thermometer with this. They are about 2 degrees off from each other. However, the JBJ digital thermometer is reading the same as the old timey thermometer so I trust the new digital thermometer and will set the heater 2 degrees up or down as needed.
Also impressed by how small it is. So in a small tank it's not this big honking thing that's getting in the way. If you have a small area for your heater this would be the way to go.
Will update as we go to see if there are any problems.

There seems to be a 2 degree difference between the thermostat and a separate external thermometer I use, but that is easy enough to adjust for. My only other complaint is having to reattach the suction cups to the wall every few weeks. With any sort of flow, they seem to lose their hold.

I don't have a controller, so these make it easy to check my temp on an ongoing basis. It's not glass, so there's no worry of explosions. And a small alarm sounds at a drastic temp change. like when the probe came out of the tank accidentally one day.

I have a couple of the larger units in my 57 gallon reef, and they do great at maintaining temperature. Unfortunately, after trying 2 different units, the small 50W unit is not large enough to maintain temperature in my nano tank. It will only raise the temperature by about 4 degrees in a 12 gallon tank.
