Excellent product for use with an aquarium controller By Paleoreef103 on 4/23/2015

My temperatures are rock solid in my tank thanks to this product and my Reefkeeper controller. It is important to know that this product DOES NOT include a built in thermostat so make sure you have a temperature controller or a full aquarium controller with temperature probe. It heats up quickly and seems to be incredibly tough, though I have not tried to test its durability.

This heater works great! I have it running off my apex and it keeps my temps very stable. I use one 500w one my 180 and it's perfect, it also fits great in my sump due to its small size. The others I looked at where too long for that amount of wattage.

I bought the 500 watt model and within a month I started feeling stray voltage in my tank. Based on the reviews at the time, I assumed I had a lemon. I tossed it and replaced it with the 300 watt model. Same thing happened with that one also. The unit comes very nicely packaged and appears to be of decent quality, but after minimal use the lack of quality is quite apparent. I had a Won Bros Pro Heat Titanium heater last me over 7 years, but they also appear to have dropped in quality. I gave the Cobalt Neo-Therm a shot as well. The 150 watt model works great, but the 200 watt model has quality issues with stray voltage and/or blowing up. It looks like I'll be sticking with the Eheim JAGER TruTemp. If you value your life and your livestock, I recommend you do as well.

This was my first titanium heater I ever purchased (800watt). I love the idea of not worrying about it breaking/cracking. I hooked it up to a ranco controller that came with a setup I purchased and it is maintaining accurate temperature. No complaints. Very happy.

I live in Wisconsin and my current 150 Watt wasn't doing the job. I wanted something small to fit in my sump Refugium. This was the smallest I could find. The 300 watt has no problem heating my tank. I use the Apex to control it.

I liked the idea of this heater. I could control it with my reefkeeper and liked the idea that it wasn't glass, felt like it was safer. I was upgrading my tank to a larger tank and started unplugging things one at a time. I removed my grounding probe and my next reach into the tank came with a shock. I removed each piece of equipment one at a time to find out what it was and narrowed it down to my 500w Finnex Deluxe Heater. I contact Finnex as it was their warranty issue, not BRS's and they asked if the cord was damaged, it was not. They told me "it is grounded, that's why the cord has three prongs"....really? Even if the ground helps alleviate the problem, that is still stray voltage, I don't care how you look at it. Their solution was to offer me a discount on another heater so that I can shock myself again in a few months.

I love this heater, its smaller then other heaters ive used and is way quicker to heat up. Hooked it up to my controller and it performs so well I'll never look back.
Packaging was funny as it was mis-spelt "Unbeakable" but that just means they focus on their product and not the box.

I thought Heaters were to go in water. will never buy again

I bought two of these for my 220 gal reef build.
upon putting them in my sump and plugging them in. BOTH leaked current badly. Putting my hand in the water to move them in the sump and I could feel the current in the water. touching each one gave me a very nice shock.
Total chinese junk. If this is how bad their quality control is, they dont need to be selling merchandise to the public.

BUYER BEWARE!!! By Jon on 3/25/2014

I purchased the 500w heater to use with my apex system in November 2013. In February 2014 I got a shock when I put my hand in the sump. After testing each thing attached to my tank, I found out that it was this heater. Now I know heaters go bad and sometimes we get the bad apple that doesn't last as long as they should. So no big deal other than the shock could have been worse. Since the order was more than 60days BRS couldn't do anything about the heater, that's understandable. So I contacted the manufacturer. They told me that it was out of warranty. WHAT? it's only been 90 days! What's what the warranty is for this heater! So beware. I switched to a different manufacturer for this reason.

I bought the 300W version and it fits into a tight sump with no issue. You do need to have a controller to use it but that's not a problem for me. You just don't have a redundancy like the heaters that have built in controllers. Well worth it. Heats like a champ!

I recently put this heater in my sump on my 200 gallon tank and it is AMAZING. I keep our house very cool, especially at night, and this 800w heater has no problem keeping up. Plus, when I do water changes, it brings the tank temperature back up very quickly! Awesome product... just know that it is quite long so if you have a small sump that is divided in any way, take measurements beforehand.

I have purcahed several of these in the last few years. Up until the last two, I would count them as reliable. The first lasted nearly 3 years between two systems. The last two have lasted less than 6 months combined. These would be awesome probes otherwise.
Luckily no major problems, though the first time around, it took me some time to track down the issues I was seeing in the tank as temp related. When I checked the controller log, there was a very wide temp swing overnight and 3 degree gap between optimal and high temp during the day.

This item malfunctioned and released electricity into my sump within 2 weeks of use. It shocked me pretty bad. I tested it a few times to make sure it was the heater and I recreated it each time. I contact Finnex and mailed it in to them which cost me $18.
They refused to replace the heater because it tested "within spec" whatever that means. I am out $58 due to this AWFUL product.

I originally bought another brand of heaters (2 300w heaters with a thermostat) but they were not enough for my 230 gallon tank. So I bought this Finnex 800 watt model and has worked great with my Neptune controller.
As these are fairly inexpensive as they have no thermostat in them, I bought another and put it in another compartment of my sump. I figure 2 will be safer if on ever fails. And the Neptune Apex logs your power usage so I will now exactly when it fails if it does.
If feel that using a controller is the way to go rather than a thermostat built in to the heater and cheaper in the end anyway.

I have this on my RKL running in the sump of a 100 gallon system, 75 main, 25 sump. My previous heater of a different brand was leaking current. This one isn't having any detectible excessive current leak. So, that alone make me happy. Over time, we will see how this unit works.

I am heading into my first winter with a freshwater discus tank at 83F. I needed good heaters instead of the 6 random ones I had laying around. I have 2 800 watt heaters in the sump connected to my apex. If you can hook up to a controller instead of buying the one for it, It is a great deal at 50 dollars. So far this has been a great heater. I will be interested to to see how long they last.

I am heading into my first winter with a 230 gallon Discus tank at 83F and needed heat. I went with two 800 watt heaters hooked up to my apex. This option has worked much better then my 6 random sized heats I had in there. The cost is also a better option if you have a controller. At 50.00 a piece they work great. As for the life expectancy, it is to soon to tell.

I've bought a total of 3 800W heaters over the years. The first one lasted about 6 months before it just stopped working. I then bought two more just in case one crapped out again. Within a couple of months another one stopped working. The third one has been currently working for the last year or so with no issues yet. Overall I'm not to impressed with the 800W heaters, they are cheap so buy at your own risk.

it worked good for 1 month. It was controlled b the finnex controler. It was a 800w that I used to replace 2 300 watt marineland heaters. Lucky I kept them or I would have had a frozen tank. I sent it back to finnex and they said they are shipping me a new one but at the cost of shipping it to them and if they send it back with me having to pay return shipping will put it at about 20 bucks in shipping almost 1/2 the cost of just buying a new heater and not having to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping times. I really think they should not make the end user pay shipping if they beleve in there product. I will give the replacement a shot but doubt I ever perchase another finnex heater.

As others have mention this product simply will not last. Mine only lasted 2 months and I thought it might just be me, then a friend had purchased one and his only lasted a couple months.
Worse than the product not lasting is there CUSTOMER SUPPORT. It is dreadful. Trying to get this replaced is a huge pain then to top it off you have to pay shipping both ways. They have to receive the heater determine what they want to do then send one back hopefully. Suggested time to get the heater back 30 days. The guy actually told me I should go ahead and buy another heater in the mean time. How the heck is that service??
