Nearly KILLED me, FINNEX won't replace! By jeremy on 4/19/13
jeremy wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
This item malfunctioned and released electricity into my sump within 2 weeks of use. It shocked me pretty bad. I tested it a few times to make sure it was the heater and I recreated it each time. I contact Finnex and mailed it in to them which cost me $18.
They refused to replace the heater because it tested "within spec" whatever that means. I am out $58 due to this AWFUL product.
DANGER --- DO NOT BUY FROM FINNEX!!!!

Works Well By RLDCPA on 3/31/13

I originally bought another brand of heaters (2 300w heaters with a thermostat) but they were not enough for my 230 gallon tank. So I bought this Finnex 800 watt model and has worked great with my Neptune controller.
As these are fairly inexpensive as they have no thermostat in them, I bought another and put it in another compartment of my sump. I figure 2 will be safer if on ever fails. And the Neptune Apex logs your power usage so I will now exactly when it fails if it does.
If feel that using a controller is the way to go rather than a thermostat built in to the heater and cheaper in the end anyway.

I have this on my RKL running in the sump of a 100 gallon system, 75 main, 25 sump. My previous heater of a different brand was leaking current. This one isn't having any detectible excessive current leak. So, that alone make me happy. Over time, we will see how this unit works.

Installed 500W on 120G display with 40G sump. Using Reef Keeper Lite as the controller, it maintains constant temp within 0.1 degree Fahrenheit. Running less than a month, but so far so good. If it lasts, then it will be a 5 star purchase.

I am heading into my first winter with a freshwater discus tank at 83F. I needed good heaters instead of the 6 random ones I had laying around. I have 2 800 watt heaters in the sump connected to my apex. If you can hook up to a controller instead of buying the one for it, It is a great deal at 50 dollars. So far this has been a great heater. I will be interested to to see how long they last.

I am heading into my first winter with a 230 gallon Discus tank at 83F and needed heat. I went with two 800 watt heaters hooked up to my apex. This option has worked much better then my 6 random sized heats I had in there. The cost is also a better option if you have a controller. At 50.00 a piece they work great. As for the life expectancy, it is to soon to tell.

Good Heater By Alen on 11/27/12

I purchased one of these heaters with out a controller, I use it on my RKE, it works great, haven't had a problem with it yet.
It doesn't come with suction cups, but the ends have good rubber on Them you don't have to worry about hitting it on the side of your glass.

800W Heaters By Jason on 9/30/12

I've bought a total of 3 800W heaters over the years. The first one lasted about 6 months before it just stopped working. I then bought two more just in case one crapped out again. Within a couple of months another one stopped working. The third one has been currently working for the last year or so with no issues yet. Overall I'm not to impressed with the 800W heaters, they are cheap so buy at your own risk.

it worked good for 1 month. It was controlled b the finnex controler. It was a 800w that I used to replace 2 300 watt marineland heaters. Lucky I kept them or I would have had a frozen tank. I sent it back to finnex and they said they are shipping me a new one but at the cost of shipping it to them and if they send it back with me having to pay return shipping will put it at about 20 bucks in shipping almost 1/2 the cost of just buying a new heater and not having to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping times. I really think they should not make the end user pay shipping if they beleve in there product. I will give the replacement a shot but doubt I ever perchase another finnex heater.

Product Does not last By Dru on 12/1/11
Dru would recommend this product to a friend
As others have mention this product simply will not last. Mine only lasted 2 months and I thought it might just be me, then a friend had purchased one and his only lasted a couple months.
Worse than the product not lasting is there CUSTOMER SUPPORT. It is dreadful. Trying to get this replaced is a huge pain then to top it off you have to pay shipping both ways. They have to receive the heater determine what they want to do then send one back hopefully. Suggested time to get the heater back 30 days. The guy actually told me I should go ahead and buy another heater in the mean time. How the heck is that service??

I have this heater hooked up to my reefkeeper lite. NOTE THAT THIS HEATER DOES NOT HAVE A THERMOSTAT. You will need to hook it up to your controller with a temp prob or have a seperate thermostat. I have the 300 watt model in the sump of my 75 gallon tank. It has no problem keep temperature stable and works well with the rkl. I would recommend this productto other looking for a solid primary heater.

Bad Luck or Bad Product? By Jason on 10/26/10

I have had 2 of these in the past, and both failed. While Finnex replaced the 1st without hassle, the second died as well, taking all of my SPS colonies with it. I personally wouldn't chance these again for a 3rd mishap.

Great with a controller By Brian on 9/9/10
Brian would recommend this product to a friend
This heater is for use with a controller as it has no thermostat (which is what usually fails first in most heaters). Since you should use a controller to prevent overheating anyways, why pay more for a heater with a thermostat? This heater is nice and small considering its wattage. Perfect for a sump.
