I just installed this into the sump of my 120 gallon reef and I'm running in on a Reefkeeper Lite system. Works great. Temp is nice and stable.
If you have a controller for your tank, this is the way to go.

Great heater, no glass to worry about breaking and no cheap temp controller that will burn out every year.

I have been running the 500 watt for about 6 months now on my 75 reef. Great heater and no problems to report as of now. Quality product at a great price. The only down fall is it comes with no suction cups. Standard heater suction cups will work and can be had for a few bucks

I recently put this heater in my sump on my 200 gallon tank and it is AMAZING. I keep our house very cool, especially at night, and this 800w heater has no problem keeping up. Plus, when I do water changes, it brings the tank temperature back up very quickly! Awesome product... just know that it is quite long so if you have a small sump that is divided in any way, take measurements beforehand.

I am using the 500W heating tube with my finnex controller and it ia working well so far. I am keeping a even low temp at night, my daytime temp increase due to MH lighting. Good review at this point, time will tell.

I use 2 of these 800 watt units in my sump on my 245 gallon tank and it handles it with ease even in the winter. I use them with the Neptune Apex to control the temperature perfectly.
I have had no issues with these so far and my tank is 8 months old.

I have had the 500w heating my 225 gal folwlr tank for over a year. not a problem. just bought the 300w for my 50 gal reef i'm starting. Hoping for the same dependablity. You should know they need a controller, my D.A. RKE works great with it. Love you guys at BRS. Now get out of my state soi don't have to pay taxes. lol

I have purcahed several of these in the last few years. Up until the last two, I would count them as reliable. The first lasted nearly 3 years between two systems. The last two have lasted less than 6 months combined. These would be awesome probes otherwise.
Luckily no major problems, though the first time around, it took me some time to track down the issues I was seeing in the tank as temp related. When I checked the controller log, there was a very wide temp swing overnight and 3 degree gap between optimal and high temp during the day.
Nearly KILLED me, FINNEX won't replace! By jeremy on 4/19/2013

This item malfunctioned and released electricity into my sump within 2 weeks of use. It shocked me pretty bad. I tested it a few times to make sure it was the heater and I recreated it each time. I contact Finnex and mailed it in to them which cost me $18.
They refused to replace the heater because it tested "within spec" whatever that means. I am out $58 due to this AWFUL product.
DANGER --- DO NOT BUY FROM FINNEX!!!!

I originally bought another brand of heaters (2 300w heaters with a thermostat) but they were not enough for my 230 gallon tank. So I bought this Finnex 800 watt model and has worked great with my Neptune controller.
As these are fairly inexpensive as they have no thermostat in them, I bought another and put it in another compartment of my sump. I figure 2 will be safer if on ever fails. And the Neptune Apex logs your power usage so I will now exactly when it fails if it does.
If feel that using a controller is the way to go rather than a thermostat built in to the heater and cheaper in the end anyway.

I have this on my RKL running in the sump of a 100 gallon system, 75 main, 25 sump. My previous heater of a different brand was leaking current. This one isn't having any detectible excessive current leak. So, that alone make me happy. Over time, we will see how this unit works.

Installed 500W on 120G display with 40G sump. Using Reef Keeper Lite as the controller, it maintains constant temp within 0.1 degree Fahrenheit. Running less than a month, but so far so good. If it lasts, then it will be a 5 star purchase.

I am heading into my first winter with a freshwater discus tank at 83F. I needed good heaters instead of the 6 random ones I had laying around. I have 2 800 watt heaters in the sump connected to my apex. If you can hook up to a controller instead of buying the one for it, It is a great deal at 50 dollars. So far this has been a great heater. I will be interested to to see how long they last.

I am heading into my first winter with a 230 gallon Discus tank at 83F and needed heat. I went with two 800 watt heaters hooked up to my apex. This option has worked much better then my 6 random sized heats I had in there. The cost is also a better option if you have a controller. At 50.00 a piece they work great. As for the life expectancy, it is to soon to tell.

I purchased one of these heaters with out a controller, I use it on my RKE, it works great, haven't had a problem with it yet.
It doesn't come with suction cups, but the ends have good rubber on Them you don't have to worry about hitting it on the side of your glass.

I've bought a total of 3 800W heaters over the years. The first one lasted about 6 months before it just stopped working. I then bought two more just in case one crapped out again. Within a couple of months another one stopped working. The third one has been currently working for the last year or so with no issues yet. Overall I'm not to impressed with the 800W heaters, they are cheap so buy at your own risk.

it worked good for 1 month. It was controlled b the finnex controler. It was a 800w that I used to replace 2 300 watt marineland heaters. Lucky I kept them or I would have had a frozen tank. I sent it back to finnex and they said they are shipping me a new one but at the cost of shipping it to them and if they send it back with me having to pay return shipping will put it at about 20 bucks in shipping almost 1/2 the cost of just buying a new heater and not having to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping times. I really think they should not make the end user pay shipping if they beleve in there product. I will give the replacement a shot but doubt I ever perchase another finnex heater.
