What a hassel! By dajesso on 4/12/13
dajesso wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I bought this kit. The heater indicator light did come on to indicate heating. JBJ sent me a replacement controller. This one did not work either. They sent me three of these where the heat indicator light did not come on. Finally they sent me one and the power did not even come on. So I sent this one back. They finally sent one that worked in full. The forth or fifth one they sent worked. I lost count. One thing for sure they stand behind the product but how they can send so many that did not work is beyond me.

Terrible product, lasts just past warranty then breaks 3X! By CompletelyHonest on 1/9/13
CompletelyHonest wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
I have owned 3 1000 watt titanium JBJ (Just Buy Junk) heaters and all have quit working right at the end of the warranty period. Both times the extreme temperature drop wiped out my 120 gallon SPS tank with some very expensive rare acro colonies. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone. The controller seems to last but the heating unit is JBJunk. Overpriced for a pretty package, instead they should have spent the extra money on R&D or better manufacturing.

Must be replaced yearly By Carlo on 11/12/12
Carlo wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
This heater breaks every year either the heating element gives out or the digital display. Company (JBJ) does not stand behind the product once they replace it. I know its tempting to buy but trust me, its unreliable. I baby my equipment too.

Does NOT last By Carlo on 11/8/12
Carlo wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
Great product for one year. Breaks once a year. The company will replace it while under warranty without any questions asked but after that replacement they are useless. First time mine broke heating element stopped working, one year later the digital display stopped. Would NOT buy again. Customer service was rude after asking for another replacement or even a discounted price for multiple purchases.

I have the 800w heater on my 225g tank for 8 months and have had no problems so far. Keeps my tank within +-2 degrees. Only reason I am giving 4 stars is for the price.

i think that to all who did leave a bad feed back that they need to go and do some research because this heater needs to be calibrated and if you don't do that you will not get an correct tempter. this product is one of a kind and i love it

Heater is unreliable in the long term. By Tom on 7/18/12
Tom wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
The cost of the unit implies it is of high quality when it is not. After about six months the Indicated temperature diverged from the actual by more than ten degrees and the unit could not be recalibrated. Luckily it was not heating season. The unit should not be trusted on a reef with any significant investment. Save your money and put it towards a controller of better quality.

controller failed 3 times, heater melted down in tank By mudgenfs on 7/8/12
mudgenfs wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
Had problems from the start. Got home tonight and smelled electrical burning. Ran downstairs and in my sump the heater was smoking, bubbling the water, and glowing bright red. I could see the heater body distorting. It really scared me but honestly I'm not surprised because the controller it came with has failed 3 times since December

Failed heater By Philip on 6/26/12
Philip wouldn't recommend this product to a friend
The heater worked for about 6 months then failed with the same symptoms as some of the other unfavorable reviews. The readout shows 88.9 degrees even though the actual temperature is about 75 degrees. The calibration feature no longer works. I wish that I had read through these reviews before I made this purchase!

After running two 300 watt unit for a year both have failed. Sent an email to JBJ to see what they have to say. Both unit show temp 87 but the water was in the low 70's. Save you tank and do not buy this heater. Changed the parts around same issue.
SAVE YOUR TANK and DO NOT BUY THIS.

I have three of the heaters and the one on the main display is the one that fails of course. I do not have a system that will alarm if teh temp fails so I was putting too much faith in the unit. Recommend you get a contorler with an alarm. It did work for 1 year.... Now I am getting DA reef keeper.....

Good product, room for improvement By Bud on 8/17/11
Bud would recommend this product to a friend
Great product, works well, vast improvement over glass heaters with suction cups with totally suck.
Some things I would have improved on: The sleeve tends to trap waste. Not much way around this. Also I think I'm going to break the thing whenever I try to take it apart, snaps together weird, and if you slide it off the rubber cap on the end of the heater pops off (not siliconed on well) but doesn't affect function. I also wish it had an adjustable range setting instead of +/- 1F. Yeah it doesn't cycle on and off a lot, but I would prefer to see a tighter range option. It's just programming, I don't know why they didn't do that.

great idea if it would last. I have had mine for 4 weeks now. Stuck my hand in the sump to change a sock and got zapped. I quickly unplugged my profilux to shut down everything and started checking each device one by one. The heater. I checked warranty card to see you only have 14 days to fill out. live and learn. Save your money.

Worth the extra dollars for the peace of mind. Has a -1 to +1 degree threshold. Working flawlessly so far.
The magnet clips are strong but where they attach to the plastic heater shroud could use some design improvement.

I recieved this heater and set it up in my sump. I started getting shocked when working in the tank. I tested everything out and it was indeed the new heater. I called BRS and they immediately sent me a new one included with a paid shipping slip for the old one back. Not sure of the value of this heater but the customer service here is priceless.

Broke in 60 days, takes some serious effort to get a replacement, they charged $12 and sent me another defective unit... I give up...
The +/- 1 degree is not ideal, If I set it at 77.4 degrees it allows a drop to 76.3 before it kicks on.....

I've had my 800 watt heater for about 2 weeks. Today the heating element failed. Apparently ether the unit does not have a overload fail safe, or mine failed. The element got so hot it completely melted the protective sleeve and melted a hole through the side of my mixing tank. Fortunately I had not yet put it in my sump and was just using it to bring some new water up to temp. Glad I was home at the time. It was set for 79 degrees but it sure exceeded that.

This heater is made well and I really like the temp probe that you can put in another area of the sump from the heater. Very strong magnets!
Very easy to calibrate and set temp.

Most "large" purchases get an eyebrow raise from 'she who must be obeyed'. I was a bit hesitant to spend this much on a heater. But after getting shocked during a water change, what choice did I have. First thing you see - THE BOX - Others have commented on it. It is worth mentioning again. The product is packed well in this durable box. I don't think it would be possible to break the product during shipping. Took 2 minutes to read the directions, and about 5 more to get it installed, and set.
This has been supporting my 125 reef now for a few months. Temp hasn't fluctuated more than 2 degrees +/- my set temp.

I ordered this for my 100 gal tank. My last heater failed and cooked everything. I looked all over for a new monitored heater and found this one. I liked the idea it was held in place with magnets. The heater has a protective cover to keep it from getting damaged...I liked that. The monitoring part is well made and I like I can calibrate it.
I installed it. Set the temp and watched it closely and it does exactly what it says it does. Keeps the temp exactly where you set it. No fussing with this one. I really like this unit.

best heater By joe on 10/28/10

this is by far the best heater on the market. the cadillac of heaters. it has a seperate temperature probe that goes before the heater in your sump so it doesn't get affected and give a false temp. reading.
it's so easy to use. just plug it in. calibrate to your thermometre, set the low limit and let it do its thing.

A good heater in a really fancy box By JJ12680 on 10/27/10
JJ12680 would recommend this product to a friend
I use the JBJ True Temp 300 watt heater on my tank and so far (3 months) I'm happy with it's performance. Probably the best thing is the magnetic holders because you never have to worry about it unsticking like suction cups. I also like the fact you can move it around without having to actually put your hand in the water. One thing that does bother me about this heater though, is the box it comes in. You'd think a Cadillac was inside. I still have it sitting around because it's too pretty to throw out. My gripe with this is, why don't they send it in a "normal" box so more of my money can go into the heater's materials. Obviously this observation has nothing to do with the performance of the heater just be prepared to have a pretty useless (pun intended) box around.

I am seriously sick of all the piece of sh*t heaters in this hobby. I have tried every brand there is and one thing that has never failed me was finnex heaters without built in controllers hooked up to a Ranco Temperature Controller. Every single other brand has died on me , once heating the tank to 90 something which killed the entire tank.
I have only used the JBJ true temp for 6 months but it seems to be of the same quality of the ranco at a cheaper price and I am happy so far. Magnet holders on the heater itself are kind of cheap but work a 1,000 times better then the stupid suction cups most companies use.
