I recieved this heater and set it up in my sump. I started getting shocked when working in the tank. I tested everything out and it was indeed the new heater. I called BRS and they immediately sent me a new one included with a paid shipping slip for the old one back. Not sure of the value of this heater but the customer service here is priceless.

Update to my previous review By Chris on 1/28/11

Broke in 60 days, takes some serious effort to get a replacement, they charged $12 and sent me another defective unit... I give up...
The +/- 1 degree is not ideal, If I set it at 77.4 degrees it allows a drop to 76.3 before it kicks on.....

I've had my 800 watt heater for about 2 weeks. Today the heating element failed. Apparently ether the unit does not have a overload fail safe, or mine failed. The element got so hot it completely melted the protective sleeve and melted a hole through the side of my mixing tank. Fortunately I had not yet put it in my sump and was just using it to bring some new water up to temp. Glad I was home at the time. It was set for 79 degrees but it sure exceeded that.

Nice Heater By Robbie G on 12/18/10

This heater is made well and I really like the temp probe that you can put in another area of the sump from the heater. Very strong magnets!
Very easy to calibrate and set temp.
Time will tell, but it looks like a keeper:)

Most "large" purchases get an eyebrow raise from 'she who must be obeyed'. I was a bit hesitant to spend this much on a heater. But after getting shocked during a water change, what choice did I have. First thing you see - THE BOX - Others have commented on it. It is worth mentioning again. The product is packed well in this durable box. I don't think it would be possible to break the product during shipping. Took 2 minutes to read the directions, and about 5 more to get it installed, and set.
This has been supporting my 125 reef now for a few months. Temp hasn't fluctuated more than 2 degrees +/- my set temp.

After junk heaters that short on or off (keeping it boiling hot or cold) I've gone with one of the 300w heaters through a controller. I won't ever change my heater set up from this again.

I ordered this for my 100 gal tank. My last heater failed and cooked everything. I looked all over for a new monitored heater and found this one. I liked the idea it was held in place with magnets. The heater has a protective cover to keep it from getting damaged...I liked that. The monitoring part is well made and I like I can calibrate it.
I installed it. Set the temp and watched it closely and it does exactly what it says it does. Keeps the temp exactly where you set it. No fussing with this one. I really like this unit.

best heater By joe on 10/28/10

this is by far the best heater on the market. the cadillac of heaters. it has a seperate temperature probe that goes before the heater in your sump so it doesn't get affected and give a false temp. reading.
it's so easy to use. just plug it in. calibrate to your thermometre, set the low limit and let it do its thing.

A good heater in a really fancy box By JJ12680 on 10/27/10

I use the JBJ True Temp 300 watt heater on my tank and so far (3 months) I'm happy with it's performance. Probably the best thing is the magnetic holders because you never have to worry about it unsticking like suction cups. I also like the fact you can move it around without having to actually put your hand in the water. One thing that does bother me about this heater though, is the box it comes in. You'd think a Cadillac was inside. I still have it sitting around because it's too pretty to throw out. My gripe with this is, why don't they send it in a "normal" box so more of my money can go into the heater's materials. Obviously this observation has nothing to do with the performance of the heater just be prepared to have a pretty useless (pun intended) box around.

I am seriously sick of all the piece of sh*t heaters in this hobby. I have tried every brand there is and one thing that has never failed me was finnex heaters without built in controllers hooked up to a Ranco Temperature Controller. Every single other brand has died on me , once heating the tank to 90 something which killed the entire tank.
I have only used the JBJ true temp for 6 months but it seems to be of the same quality of the ranco at a cheaper price and I am happy so far. Magnet holders on the heater itself are kind of cheap but work a 1,000 times better then the stupid suction cups most companies use.
