This has been by far the best purchase I have made. This little thing has made my life so so so so much easier. I calibrate it once out of the box and haven't calibrated it once since then. I know it says you should calibrate it, but I haven't seen any change when I do. I assume that it's dead on. I treat all my fish with hypo salinity and I measure it out to 1.007. I haven't lost one fish yet from hypo so I know that this thing is dead on.

Makes testing easy. Turn it on, add water and hit read. Spend the cash up front for this product so you dont have multiple other refractometers collecting dust, broken, or just poor quality sitting around.

The refractometer itself is a brain dead easy device to use, however when I first attempted to calibrate it, it was giving me a calibration range error code on every attempt (according to the manual). I had used RO/DI water according to the manual specifications.
When I called Milwaukee Customer support I greeted by a very unfriendly customer support agent. He told me that I HAD to use distilled water, which is a bit surprising since RO/DI should be pretty much as pure as you can get. He insisted that nothing was wrong with the Unit and that it was my water.
Just to be sure I went to a LFS and used their RO/DI water before and had the same error. When I used distilled water I still got the same error so I KNEW it wasn't an issue with my water.
Thankfully BRS has far more competent and helpful service then Milwaukee and I was able to get a replacement easily which thankfully now works as it should.

I was using a regular refractometer and decided to go digital, I never looked back !! This works great, mine was getting inaccurate temp readings so I contacted Milwaukee and they sent me a brand new unit at no charge AND said keep your old unit !!! This is the exact same unit sold by F&S at $199. Bulk Reef Supply is does it again !

I’ve been in the hobby for over 15 years. As a reefer who is also legally blind reading my standard refractometer has become nearly impossible as I’ve gotten older and eyes have gotten worse. This is an invaluable tool!
It did take a little getting use to, mostly to prevent contamination of the sample and grossly throw off the readings. But with a little practice and using DISTILLED WATER as a standard I got the hang of it in about a week and now get consistent, repeatable results.

Great piece of hard ware so easy and fun to use even have my girlfriend using it and she would never test before . Before I purchased it was using plastic and glass hydrometers ,in which were all inaccurate. They were so far off I took my green machine to local fish store ,they took me in back and was same thing they used . And tested against there's mine was dead on with there's . Well worth extra money. .

This thing was so fun to use and easy to use after using plastic hydrometers and glass hydrometer with thermometer. They were all so inaccurate.Took it to local fish store and check with there's and to my surprise after taking me in back was same thing they used .Tested it against there's and was dead on .I call it green machine can't stop using it . Best money I ever spent . Also never could get my girlfriend to test tank and is so easy and fun she does some testing .

This item is outstanding. It has made the test so much easier and accurate than with the old hydrometer that I was using.Why I didn't purchased one years ago is beyond me. I recommend this item to every hobbist.

After about five uses, my brand new unit began giving erratic readings all over the place. Condensation could clearly be seen behind the refracto glass and LED, an indication that water from the sample well is leaking into the unit.
My mistake was figuring that I'll go directly to Milwaukee for warranty service. The Milwaukee technical support staff made it a hassle to ship the DOA unit back to them at my expense. They then took several days after receiving my defective unit to ship another unit back to me. Even after I provided proof of purchase, my argument that I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to return a DOA unit fell on deaf ears at Milwaukee. It was insinuated that a "hobbyist" couldn't understand how to properly use a laboratory instrument, and I did not once receive an apology for having received a defective unit.
The digital refracto is fantastic when it comes to quick readings. I got it because I know making testing easier will motivate me to test more frequently, and my analog refractometer was requiring calibration before every use (it would often show different readings even with two samples of the same water taken in quick succession). This Milwaukee unit is precise and accurate enough for my needs, and calibration with RO/DI means no more worrying about 35ppt solution going out of calibration. I just wish another company with better support (perhaps BRS?) is the manufacturer. =p

Fast and easy to use. Nothing to really set up. Way too fun I find my self checking my salinity a lot more including my friends. Couple of things, wish it where made of better plastic, casing feels a little week and also wish they would have included some kind of water for the price.

This is my first time owning a digital refractometer so I was a little skeptical about accuracy at first. I was relieved to find out it measured values very close to my analog refractometer. The unit automatically compensates for temperature which is great and can also be calibrated using just RO/DI water.
The great thing about this unit is that I no longer have to look like I am gazing at some distant planet, staring into a bright light source to get a salinity / SG reading for water and counting lines between number markers to get an accurate reading. It's taken the tedium out of measuring SG.

this thing is seriously accurate. i had some major issues going on with my tank and i knew something was off. well i checked this against my tank and my salinity was seriously low. so much that when i adjusted it i had to readjust all my livestock. i wouldnt run 35ppt exactly as this thing will have it dead on and surely what you were using isnt this accurate.
now my tank is on its way to recovery.
