  • Good, but not great By on 1/19/2016

This stuff works pretty well. It rinses clean very easily but it is not removing phosphate as quickly as RowaPhos. It is less expensive and easier to use, so it will probably be good for maintenance, not leaching precipitated phosphate from your rock.

This is one of many products that the saying "you get what you pay for " fits well

  • Runses clean By on 12/7/2015

I prefer the high capacity GFO because it rinses clean almost immediately. Less messy than regular GFO and really removes phosphate.

BRS GFO high capacity works great on my tank. Nuisance algae is gone since I'm using this brand with BRS dual reactor. Just follow the recommended dosage and you're good to go.

This stuff is great!! Keeps the algae in check. My tank never looked so good.
  • Worth the money, works incredibly well By on 11/10/2015

Bought this product to help 'rehab' a neglected tank. Phosphates were through the roof, too high to register with our Hanna checker (over 2.50ppm). Added HC GFO to a BRS dual reactor and saw IMMEDIATE results. Within 72 hours phosphate levels were well below 0.5ppm and still falling.

Needs no real rinsing, just let the first little bit of water that leaves the reactor flow through some floss and a filter sock, to collect the fines (or discard the water). Tumbles beautifully in a reactor, we've had no issues whatsoever with clumping or pieces breaking down into fines.

Lastly, when compared to regular GFO, this stuff is denser; at first glance it looks WAY more expensive, but compared by weight it's not a huge difference and it's worth it. We use regular GFO for maintaining non-problem tanks, but if you have a high-load tank, you're dealing with a major phosphate issue, repairing long-term neglect, it's worth laying out the cash for this stuff -- it's not a gimmick, it definitely works more intensely than the standard GFO.
