  • Too inaccurate for reef tanks By Adam on 3/30/2015

This is a quality, easy to read test kit for phosphates, perfect for fish only or less-demanding reef tanks, but I wouldn't recommend buying this one for most reefers. The accuracy is only +/- 0.04 so if you're trying to maintain phosphates between 0.01 and 0.03 ppm then this kit is useless.

The ultra low range checker works on a parts per billion scale, which is probably more appropriate for the typical reef tank. It reads between 0 and 200 ppb, which is 0 and 0.2 ppm.

Oh, and I agree with everyone else who doesn't like the reagent packets.
  • Finger acrobatics with tiny sachet-like reagents By Join the Revolution on 3/29/2015

Seriously? I bought this and used it about 2 or 3 times. The process of placing this tiny bag of powder into a tiny vial is ridiculous- regardless if it is accurate or not, it is poor product development. Don't believe me? Buy and try it. Not for me, next.
  • YOU NEED THIS ONE NO MATTER WHAT By machote on 3/27/2015

the best phosphate test its easy and fast just remember BUY EXTRA CHARGES because it come with just like 5 thats why i put 4 of 5 stars i would prefer pay extra but dont have the need to make a extra purchase some weeks after i get it
  • Quality Product and easy to use By Jeff on 3/26/2015

The phosphate reagent package is what keeps me from giving it 5 stars. Took a couple of tests to get it down. I use both vials one for the benchmark and the other for mixing the reagent. I use a small square of notebook paper fold it to make a crease to funnel in bottle. That way i can shake all the reagent out of packet and have an easier way to slide the powder into the vial. Beyond that the testing is easy.
  • The only phosphate tester you should use By Nick on 3/22/2015

I have basically no algae in my tank, but I wanted to make sure and get accurate results as to what my phosphate levels were versus using liquid tests which are not always the most reliable. Little did I know that according to the Hannah checker, I have zero phosphate. There is a margin of error of +\- 0.04 but even 0.04 is still very good. Very happy with the purchase.
I wish hanna made a magnesium checker!
  • Would recommend this product By BobG on 3/22/2015

Easy to use, accurate. Purchased to extend the length of time between GFO change out. Should pay for itself over time as I was changing GFO on a schedule and it appears I was changing out too often.
  • Great! By Patrick of Bay Area Coral on 3/16/2015

This is exactly as advertised. I will not go back to my old way of testing phosphate. My only gripe is the titrant used. It comes in these tiny bags which are difficult to put into the test tube. I would give it 4.5 stars, but I have to round down for this one.

I like the larger storage container that it come in! Easy to use and reliable.
  • Extremely accurate, no more color guessing. By Brian on 2/2/2015

Well built, and easy to use. I only have a couple caviars; if you follow the instructions the unit will turn off while you are mixing the reagent. I recommend mixing it while using the second included vial to zero the checker. It only comes with 6 reagent packs, so be sure to order more. Also when opening the battery door, be careful to pry it straight away, do not pry it off at an angle, you will bend the connected pieces.
  • Just short of great By ONAP on 1/19/2015

I really love the idea of this test meter, but the execution needs a little help. For the most part, it's great. Love the design. Easy to use. No guessing at colors, unlike other test kits. The only real issues that I have with this tester are the limited number of reagent packets provided with a new test kit, and the reagent mixing time. The instructions tell you to shake the vial for 2 minutes after adding the reagent. The problem is that the meter shuts off after two minutes. Another sixty seconds and a few more reagent packets, and this would be a five star product.
