Great Product By Geoff on 4/17/2014Geoff would recommend this product to a friendI'm currently using two with the Reefkeeper lite plus and they've worked fine for me for a couple months now no problems. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to program it with my aqualifter ato pump but the switches seem like they'll last plenty long enough for me to be satisfied. For the price I have two more in a box in case one fails.
great switch By valerie on 3/8/2014valerie would recommend this product to a friendPurchased this set to go with our RKL Plus, very easy to hook up. We had to add a spacer where you would tighten to the sump since the screw wasnt long enough, but thats it. We coupled this with the Tom aqua pump, had it set up in minutes, tested it, and worked perfectly.
Great float switch By Bradley on 2/16/2014Bradley would recommend this product to a friendHave had this float switch for 6 or so months now and have not had one problem with it. I'm using it in the return chamber in my sump so snails and crabs are not a issue.
Simple design seems fail-proof By Mtthbrook on 2/9/2014Mtthbrook would recommend this product to a friendI like the simple design they work good, one word of caution they are weak where they heat the acrylic to bend the brackets , So do not over tighten them to the top of your aquarium or you may break the bracket like I did with one of mine.
Does what its suppose to do. By Joshjk on 11/9/2013Joshjk would recommend this product to a friendThis float switch works very well. The mounting brackets came threaded and hold up nice. I have not had any problems with it like others have posted. I am very pleased with this float switch bracket combo. I have recommended this to my friends who also really like this combo and all the holes came threaded. Very happy.
would not recommend By Theodore on 10/6/2013Theodore wouldn't recommend this product to a friendas mentioned in other reviews the threaded holes do not appear to have been tapped and as the holes are too big I can not retread them to fit the supplied plastic bolts............otherwise they are real pretty, switch works well though .
pretty poor craftsmanship By Mr. Cool on 9/7/2013Mr. Cool wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe screws that sets the height of the switch is poorly crafted. It wouldn't be tight enough to hold the switch in place. As stated by other buyer. Overall this product has very poor craftsmanship. And yes, this is the worst purchase I made from BRS.
Don't nock it till u try it By Mike on 5/31/2013Mike would recommend this product to a friendOne word, nice. easy install, we'll made, and user friendly. My bracket was well made, no complaints. Set up in no time. Worked well with my home made ATP system. Don't listen to people who over tighten plastic screws and blame a product for being cheep. Try it and u will see!
NO BRAINER! By Christopher on 4/18/2013Christopher would recommend this product to a friendTHIS FLOAT SWITCH MAKES AUTO TOP OFF A BREEZE! only problem i had was with the bracket but worth the money.
Awesome mounting bracket, average float By Kevin on 4/18/2013Kevin would recommend this product to a friendThe mounting bracket is what really makes this kit. If you don't have a built in place for mounting your float switches this is a must have! I only have 2 knock's against the kit. First the "clamp" that clamps onto the sump to hold it in place doesn't close tight enough to hold onto my rimless acrylic sump. Second over time it becomes impossible to turn the adjustment screw's without a long soak in vinegar.
Not impressed By Christopher on 3/31/2013Christopher wouldn't recommend this product to a friendAs stated in the other reviews the bracket design is not worth the money you pay for this kit. The craftsmanship is very low. The screw threads in bracket are not straight on one and this causes the screw to tighten at an angle and they do not fully tighten so you have to be real careful because one little bump will knock these things side ways. This bracket is also made for rimless sumps so be prepared to drop some more green backs on a 1 inch thick piece of acrylic by how ever long you need to be able to utilize these on a rimmed sump. I would only recommend this product if you have no other choices. Or you are in a pinch.
Horrible Design By Tony on 3/28/2013Tony wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe switches work fine, but the bracket is less than ideal. Lets start with the holes. They are drilled at almost the same size as the threads, so there is no "bite" from the screws. Out of 4 screws on two brackets, only ONE was able to tighten up.
As stated in other reviews, the long screw is not long enough for 3/16" sided sumps. You have to add a separate piece to take up the space. And again, the threads are non existent and the screw strips way too easy.
Worst purchase I have made from BRS! I will NEVER buy another one, I will build them myself instead of taking the easy way out.

Can this be used directly in my main display tank? It looks like the brackets are quite long and my water level is about an inch from the top of the display tank.
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Phillip,
The brackets are definitely designed with a sump in mind. The float switches themselves would work but you would for sure need a different mounting solution (or the water tank in your display would be a lot lower).

Can i use this with an Apex?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi James,
The float switches themselves and bracket will work just fine. You will just run the wires straight to the Apex Breakout Box instead of hooking them up to the DA molex connectors.

Does the signle bracket still come with two floats?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Joe,
It does not. The single kit comes with a single bracket and single float, the dual kit comes with two of each.

Ok thanks. Another question. Most of the float switches have something in the description about wattage or amperage and damages. Is the ReefKeeper Lite compatible with the included OR purchased float switches without the need for something in the middle to limit voltage/etc?
A 50 watt float switch can be destroyed by a pump rated at 6 watts and, unfortunately, it may take many cycles before the failure occurs.
Because they can destroy an otherwise very reliable float switch, care must be taken to completely isolate the switch from the current drawn by pumps, solenoids or other devices subject to spiking voltage. Resistors or diodes may be used, but the most common solution is to utilize a circuit board or a relay.
In the illustration, a relay acts as a switch for a pump, thereby isolating the float switch from any spikes that the pump may draw. The float switch turns the relay coil on and off. In this way, the only current handled by the float switch is that small amount required by the relay coil. Please consult with your relay supplier to assure that the relay current requirements are well within the specs of the float switch.
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Phillip,
A float switch is just an open/closed switch but it doesn't actually produce any electricity. In the case of the reef keeper systems they are outputting there own safe voltage through the float switch and then monitoring to see if that current comes back (switch closed) or not (switch open). The reef keeper will only output a small amount of DC current to do this and then that signal is used to control a relay (one of the outlets on the PC4) on or off which is where all the high current goes. So basically it does what the last sentence in your paragraph says.

If I already have the RKL Plus and wanting to buy this kit, then will I need anything else to connect the float switch to the RKL?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Terrance,
The float switches themselves will plug directly into the switch ports on the SL1 module (which you should have with the plus system) so you shouldn't need anything else.
