Product Questions

Can skimmer go in same area as return pump?
Question by: CLINTON ROBBINS on Jun 27, 2019, 1:52 AM
Great question! You absolutely can have a skimmer in the same chamber/area as your return pump. The only issue I potentially see is if the water level in the return compartment is not constant. Fluctuations in water level will affect the skimmers performance. Skimmers are usually placed in a compartment with a constant water level. I hope this is helpful! Happy reefing :)

I’m building a new sump and I plan on getting this protein skimmer but what are the length witdth and height of the skimmer to make sure I put the baffles in the best place
Question by: John on Jan 15, 2018, 11:07 AM
Thanks for contacting BRS!
This skimmer is 9.5x7.3x20.9. Have a great day!

I'm trying to decide between the 150sss and the 110sss for a 65-gallon sps tank. I'm confused because the BRS suggestions on the 150sss shows 65-gallon heavy bioload but in the Q&A section for the 150sss it says 110-gallon for heavy bioload. Please advise, thanks!
Question by: Ryan on Dec 17, 2016, 10:55 AM
Great question! It looks like we answered that question prior to putting the skimmer to the test and coming up with our listed recommendations. The recommendations you see in the product description are a more accurate representation. :-)

Will any of the Reef Octopus auto neck cleaners fit the 150SSS skimmer?
Question by: Charlie on Aug 14, 2016, 4:15 PM
Great question! According to the product specs from Reef Octopus, the ANC 150 will work with the Classic 150sss. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. Have a great day and happy reefing!

I recently ordered the classic 150 sss for my 75 gallon heavily stocked tank running a emerald 26 sump. Is this skimmer to big for this tank setup or do you recommend I go with a different skimmer. Thanks!
Question by: Steve on Jun 1, 2016, 9:16 AM
Great question!
This skimmer is oversized until the bio-load of the tank will catch up. Once tuned correctly this skimmer will not have any issues on a tank of your size.

Your light/medium/heavy recommendations on the 110 version of this are super helpful. Any reason you haven't done the same fo this skimmer? (heck, there is no BRS recommendation on this one at all)
Question by: John Donahue on May 14, 2016, 10:33 PM
Great question!
These have been recently redesigned and not had a chance to fully complete the testing. On these skimmers we recommend 200 light bio load, 150 medium, closer to 110 with heavy. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor on May 19, 2016, 1:47 PM
Do you have to adjust this skimmer? Or do you just set it up and go ?
Question by: Travis on May 8, 2016, 8:41 PM
Great question.
Skimmers will always need to be adjusted to fit your system size and bio load. This is done with the stand pipe adjustment, air intake adjustment and overall height.

I have an Eshops RS-75 sump on a 75 gallon aquarium. The skimmer section is 7.5 x 9.5 The sump and skimmer will be under the stand. Will this fit or do I need to go with the 110SSS to be able to remove it from the sump for cleaning?
Question by: Jim on Apr 20, 2016, 3:46 AM
Great question!
The 150sss would be just a little too large for the sump. We recommend the 110SSS for easy removal and cleaning. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Occasionally I have to service the pumps for my tank to remove calcium deposits. Is access available to the moving parts of the motor? Easy access?
Question by: Ken Rees on Apr 19, 2016, 5:44 PM
Great question!
The pump is fairly easy to remove by removing the skimmer body and dismounting the pump. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Ok. I have a DSA Neo 105 (100 gallon) and an emerald 34 sump. Thank is mostly sps and some lps but only around 15 3 inch corals. I'm Essentially an ultra low nutrient system and dose NoPOx.
I see great reviews on this skimmer and just can't swing the cash for a Nyos or any $450 skimmer. Size wise I believe the RO 150 is capable is it really as good as the reviews and the bubbles as fine as I read about? Or is there a better choice up to $350 ish range
Question by: sean benson on Apr 14, 2016, 5:10 PM
Great question!
We have had great luck with the Classic 150sss. It is a very small footprint and does perform as well as the reviews say! Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
