    • Not what I expected By WBA on 12/3/2013

I ran in to the same issues as AGSPIN too. I would not recommend this product for the same reason. I filled it with the small amount of pellets and added some of the BRS stock that I had as well and within 2 weeks the BRS pellets were too small. Now I have pellets scattered across one of the chambers in my sump. I will have to wait and save up and switch.

I really like the products Reef Octopus puts out so I decided to upgrade my biopellet reactor to the biochurn after watching the video of it in action. In concept it seemed great and the video shows the pellets really being churned. I set it up and and ran it with the provided pellets and it ran great. Since they only provided 500ml of pellets I decided to add some of the ones that I had in the old reactor. Thats where the nightmare began. The old pellets are naturally smaller but still have at least 50% life left. Apparently thats too small because they get wedged between the rotating bottom plate and the cylinder wall which causes it to a stop rotating. Naturally without any motion the pellets will eventually clump together. This is a maintenance nightmare. You will have to constantly check to make sure the plate is moving and then replace the pellets when there is still half the life left in them or they will jam the spinning plate. What a waste of $400. I'm going back to my old unit and getting rid of this one.
