Why does BRS recommend Ecotech Radion Lighting?

Ecotech has refined their line of Radion LED units over the years to become one of the best LED units on the market today. Now with Micro-fin cooling technology and HEI Optics increasing the color blending capabilities while also increasing the overall spread. With unmatched control through the ReefLink controller and EcoSmart Live programming, a LED unit can’t get much easier than the G4 series of Radion LED Lights.

  • More Color
  • More Cooling
  • More Coverage
  • More Control

HEI Optics

Revolutionary HEI Optics (Hemispherical Edge Illumination) are now incorporated in all G4 Radion LED lights. HEI helps deliver better uniformity, spread, and overall color mixing allowing the Radions to come very close simulating  Halide/T5 combos without any added heat or energy usage. The lens geometry of the HEI Optics offers a significant improvement over standard optics and even TIR lenses spreading the light over a greater area, allowing your tank to have a more even spread of light without any major hot spots.

Micro-Fin Cooling

The completely redefined heatsink of the G4 series of Radions now has Micro-Fin cooling creating more surface area allowing for a quicker heat transfer and dispersion allowing for more passive cooling, and less need for active cooling. Along with the heatsink's cooling fins, a computer driven, silent, IP55 cooling fan allows for active cooling over the Micro-Fins letting your light shine brighter and last longer!

EcoSmart Live

The web based interface lets you control all of your Ecotech Marine products through the cloud. Through your smartphone, tablet, or computer you can control the G4 family of Radion lights anywhere you have internet access. The ReefLink Controller creates a fully inclusive device management system, with the use of the Vortech propeller pumps, Vectra return pumps, and Radion lighting, create an authentic ecosystem that you can control right from your fingertips.

Mounting

Ecotech offers multiple types of mounting solutions for the G4 family of Radion LED lights. From full tank track systems letting you use multiple G4 Radion lights, to single light RMS mounting arms and hanging kits.

Radion Hanging Kit - Mount a single Radion light quickly and easily. Radion Hanging kits have quick lock fasteners that let you adjust the height making it a great choice for frag systems, or acclimation systems.

RMS Mounting Arm - Mount your single Radion through a robust tank mounting system. The RMS Arm is by far the quickest and least obtrusive option that doesn't require drilling any holes in your walls or ceilings.

RMS Track System - The 3 piece system lets you mount multiple Radion lights in a single track that lets you slide them back and forth to create the best coverage for your tank. The track system is perfect for larger tanks letting you use either a hanging kit to suspend the track system or the RMS Arm Kit for a tank mounting option.

Note: Reeflink Controller required for use with EcoSmart Live. Also controllable through the Neptune Apex WXM Module.

Tuning Your New LED Light

Most LED lights will actually put out more light than your corals will actually need and without a PAR Meter to test the overall output, it is really hard to guess if the light is too dim or intense. We highly suggest using a PAR Meter to test the output of your lights at different points throughout your tank that you can use to tune the lights output or know where to put specific corals.

Product Questions

What's the main difference between the g4 and g4 pro?
Question by: Kyle on Nov 21, 2017, 8:40 PM
There are 12 additional LEDs in the G4 Pro and there is also additional 2 channels of color, warm white, and violet. If you are split between the two, in most cases the standard G4 will suffice, but if you love control and need the additional colors, then the G4 Pro will never disappoint you.

Would two of these sufficiently run a standard 48” 75g sps only tank?
Question by: Justin Swinney on Oct 23, 2017, 5:05 PM
Hi Justin, thanks for reaching out!

While 2 of the Radion XR30s are more than capable of lighting a 4 foot tank you will find that over time your corals may begin to shade themselves and other corals due to the way that the 4 pucks of LEDs light the tank. Ideally you want your light source(s) to be as spread out at possible to reduce shadowing and to provide even lighting throughout the tank.

Check out our in-depth review of the XR30s and XR15s (and other lights) which should really help you make your lighting decision.

Does one of these provide sufficient light to grow SPS corals in a tank that is 24x24x20?
Question by: Peter on Dec 30, 2016, 1:26 PM
Great question! The new HEI Optics of the Gen4 Radion increase the overall spread of the light. It would easily cover that size of tank! :-)
Answer by: Randy on Jan 9, 2017, 9:02 PM
Can I control these lights without the use of the internet. Can I control them manually?
Question by: Fred Hotz on Sep 16, 2016, 2:11 PM
Hey Fred,
That's a great question! You for sure can! There are a certain amount of preset channels for this light that you can change, as well as change the intensity using the buttons on top of the light. You will not be able to program a light schedule without the reef link, so make sure to pick up a digital timer if you need scheduled lighting! Let us know if you have any other questions!
