Solid bulkhead By Nick on 10/15/12
Nick would recommend this product to a friendI bought this bulkhead as a replacement for the stock barbed bulkhead that came with my overflow kit, and it's a definite upgrade. It's very solid, and my schedule 26 and 40 tubing fits into it well. -

It works. By Andrew on 9/13/12
Andrew would recommend this product to a friendIt's a bulkhead. It has one job in life--keep the water in the tank while letting the pipe out. It does this job well. It's only a little more heavy-duty than the ones that come with new tanks (I think there are even bulkier bulkheads out there), but this is good enough for my purposes. -
No leaks or drips By Patrick on 9/10/12
Patrick would recommend this product to a friendI used a 1/2" bulkhead for my water storage barrels in my garage. Installation was simple using a 29mm hole saw (I couldn't find a 27mm). It only took 20 minutes and most of that was waiting for my pump to move the water to a holding tank. After a week, I still don't see any leaks or drips from the bulkhead or around the PVC cemented into the slip side of the bulkhead. -
Nice By Andre on 8/27/12
Andre would recommend this product to a friendThese are definately heavier duty than standard ones and gave me a more secure feeling when tightening into place

With an ABS slip X slip bulkhead, will a 3/4" street elbow slip into it, or will I have to use a small piece of 3/4" pipe -> 3/4" elbow?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Joe,
The "street" side of the elbow will slide right into the bulkhead. Makes them especially handy for these types of situations. -

Does the bulkhead size denoted first indicate what size pipe it fits? I've got plain-jane 1" ID PVC and need some regular bulkhead fittings. Does this mean I need the 1" bulkhead?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Brett,
Good question. The sizes listed are the nominal pipe sizes, so if you have a 1" PVC pipe you would want the 1" bulkhead, 1" elbows, 1" valve, etc. -

Do you just hand tighten the nut to the bulkhead?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Mike,
That is correct, just hand tight when putting the nut onto the bulkhead. -

I will be installing a Herbie overflow system on a 40 gallon breeder tank. My question is what size ABS
bulkheads should I install for the drains 1inch or 1.5inch?
Thank you,
JohnBulk Reef Supply Hey John,
I would suggest the 1". The 1.5" bulkheads would be pretty over-sized for a 40breeder and may make it more difficult to tune the drain.
Bulkheads are used to attach plumbing to aquariums and sumps. These low profile reef safe bulkheads are made from black ABS plastic. Our supplier manufactures these slightly thicker than competitor aquarium bulkheads making them more reliable.
