Great Pump By Jeremy on 2/15/13
Jeremy would recommend this product to a friendI have been using this pump on my 75g with a 20g sump since day 1 and it has worked great! I would recommend cleaning the pre-filter often as it will get full of debris. -
rock solid pump By reefjoy on 12/22/12
reefjoy would recommend this product to a friendRunning this 24/7 on a Precision Marine Bullet 1 skimmer. Great performance, stable. Has survived several tank moves, keeps going strong, & has outlived other pumps I've had. Can't go wrong with a Mag pump! -
Great product By Ron on 7/5/12
Ron would recommend this product to a friendWhat can you say, Mag Drive are one of the best and for this price you can't beat it. -
good pump By Peter on 5/5/12
Peter would recommend this product to a friendRunning the mag 12 on 150g reef, much quieter than the Iwaki that was using prior. Have noticed amphipods that make it through the sump to the pump are blasted into the display in one one piece, pretty cool -
Solid Pump By Rich on 1/21/12
Rich would recommend this product to a friendI have a mag drive 12, and have used the same pump on a number of different setups (currently I have it on a saltwater mixing system). Very versatile, and these babies throw a lot of water! They're also fairly quiet (one of the quietest available), and can be run submerged or externally, and kick butt either way. Can't go wrong! -
Great product By Matthew on 12/1/11
Matthew would recommend this product to a friendThis pump is used as my internal return pump on a 120g reef. The pump has a lot of power and runs very quietly.
The construction of the pump is outstanding and very durable. The only thing i had to do was swap the screws on the impeller housing for nylon screws as to prevent corrosion from the saltwater.
Overall a great product and would recommend to others -
Solid performer By Patrick on 11/11/11
Patrick would recommend this product to a friendIf you need a reliable workhorse, this is the pump for you.
I use it as a return pump from my sump. It's super quiet, unless you let it start to run dry. ( I found this out the hard way waking up one morning to a grinding sound because evaporation had left me a gallon shy of where I needed to be).
Otherwise I never hear it running.
I will say the one thing I missed in all the reviews I read that the owners manual explicitly states is that for use in marine (saltwater) environment, unit must be removed from system and cleaned out due to salt creep every 3-4 months.
Definitely not a deal breaker, as most pumps would probably need some sort of routine maintenance, but thought it was important to throw this out there so you don't place it & forget it. -
BULLETPROOF By Anthony on 11/1/11
Anthony would recommend this product to a friendMag pumps hands down are amazing. I have run these pumps with broken shafts (my fault) even dropped outside and cracked the housing and could not put all the screws back on and it still ran!! These are really strong pumps and a great value. A must have investment! I have a mag 12 running 3 40 breeders in a closed system and it pushes water flow no problem. -
Great return pump for my 180 gallon!! By Emmanuel on 2/20/11
Emmanuel would recommend this product to a friendThis pump was recommended by BRS as return pump. Well this is perfect for my set up. I have my tank in the living room and I needed a quiet pump. This pump is quiet but not silent and it does vibrate. I used black sponge between the sump and pump and the connected it using flexible tubing. How it is installed it is barely audible. Overall a great pump and would not hesitate to buy another if the need arises. -
great p ump By Noel on 10/4/10
Noel would recommend this product to a friendYou can't go wrong buying a mag drive. I have used mag drives mainly with all of my systems. The only thing I would caution is if you are doing regular maintenance on the pump and are taking out the impella shaft, be carely when removing the housing! I was unlucky and the shaft snapped in half. The housing can become stuck, which appears to have been from calcium deposits. Other than that, the pump works great, starts up easily and the price is right IMO. -
Reliable By Brian Shablin on 4/13/10
Brian Shablin would recommend this product to a friendGreat pump for the money. Ive used two as return pumps in my 215g reef tank. One just died after 8 yrs; the other is still running strong. Much quieter than the Reeflo Dart that I replaced it with.

Are these pumps considered pressure rated?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Jason,
It all depends on where you draw the line. I would call these more of a standard internal pump though. The pumps are capable of reasonably high head pressure in the 10ft plus range but they wont get anywhere near some of the pumps like the higher pressure panworld pumps which can go 30-40ft head pressure or even much more depending on the pump. -

What would the GPH be with a four foot head?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Jim,
Good question. At 4ft of head pressure, with the Mag Drive 12 you are looking at right about 1100gph. -

head pressure is that the distance from the pump to the top of tank?
also how do you clean the pre filter?
tksBulk Reef Supply Hey Jack,
Head pressure is the total amount of resistance back on the pump. The biggest factor of this is going to be gravity and the vertical distance the pump needs to pump. This would be the distance from the top of the water level in the container you a pumping from, to the top of the water level in the container you are pumping too.
Unless you have a particularly tall and sump with a high water level, measuring the distance from the top of the pump to the tank rim will get you right in the ballpark.
Danner Mag-Drive Supreme Pumps are specifically designed for the demands of salt water aquariums. Mag-Drive Supreme pumps are made to run continuously, without seals to wear out. Very low maintenance with an easy-clean pre-filter. These are the most used pumps in their class. Energy efficient. The only moving part on a Mag Drive pump is the ceramic/magnetic impeller. All Mag Drives come with a 3 year limited manufacturer's warranty.
