Product Questions

I have a 2 bulb fixture. Do I need two ballasts or will one run both 250w bulbs?

Great question!
You will need one ballast per light. With 2 bulbs you will need 2 ballasts. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

I'm confused about this ballast. The wattages say 125W / 190W / 250W / 275W. The only one that lines up with available MH bulbs is the 250w. Is the 275w like the HQI switch on other electronic ballasts? What are the 125w and 190w settings for? I have another adjustable MH ballast and was looking to add this one with my tank upgrade, but I like the option to switch to 175w halides if I'm looking to save power, but it seems this is missing that option since it goes from 250w to 190w?
Question by: Ted on Jul 11, 2016 10:17:00 AM
Hi Ted, That is a great question, and really the different settings are the amount of power the ballast will put out to the lamp. The ballast really doesn’t know or care what wattage of bulb you have in the fixture; it will simply fire the bulb, and then feed it with the selected amount of power. If you were to run a 175w MH lamp on the 190w setting you would be “over-driving” the lamp and theoretically getting more light output but the lamp life may degrade a bit quicker. Some lamps give better color when being over or under driven, and with so many different types of MH lights in different wattages on the market today you may not see the exact same wattage for your lamps.
If you have any other questions just let us know. Thanks!

Hi Mike,
Yes all of the Hamilton ballasts have a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase.
