Don't like it By Dwayne on 9/28/2014Dwayne wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI've had this in my tank for a few weeks and I'm wishing I could go back to my fine crushed coral substrate. When I first put this in my tank, it made my water so cloudy I couldn't see to arrange my rocks. I waited a few days for the cloudiness to settle, and again, I attempted to arrange my rocks the way I wanted them. After moving a couple rocks, the water became so cloudy, again, I couldn't see what I was doing. I can't arrange my rocks if I can't see in the tank. I wanted another few days. Tried again to rearrange my rocks. Cloudiness to the point I couldn't see. I hate it. Every time I try to do ANYTHING with my tank, the water gets so muddy I can't see what I'm doing and I then have to put up with muddy water for a few days. This sand is filthy. I hate it. For me, it's been nothing but a mess. If you're like me and occasionally try to clean your tank or rocks, don't bother. You'll hate it.
Nice Sand By Keith on 9/4/2014Keith would recommend this product to a friendI did a mix of coarse and fine texture sands in my tank using this product and it turned out great. Time will tell if it helps the tank cycle any quicker. This sand is a nice white color.
Great Product! By Jon N on 6/7/2014Jon N would recommend this product to a friendWonderful sand and is from a great company that adds lots of beneficial bacteria. really enjoy this sand I usually mix a couple sized sand and this is a nice top off sand. Great quality!
Great looking and clean sand By Derek on 5/2/2014Derek would recommend this product to a friendAs stated before by others, don't let the name fool you its not Pink. Size of the sand is just right and looks awesome when finally in your tank under good lighting. I bought 100lbs of this hoping it would be a good sand for a pistol shrimp/goby combo and it seems from reviews and seeing it for myself it will be!
Outstanding By Dinoflagellates on 4/17/2014Dinoflagellates would recommend this product to a friendI bought this sand following the positive reviews and it did what it needed to do... I have a super fast start in the cycle of my thank thanks to the bacteria on it, I will definitely recommend this product plus it looks amazing!!
Great prices, great stuff, always use it! By MatraD on 4/8/2014MatraD would recommend this product to a friendI always use Fiji pink - just ordered 120lbs of it from BRS for a new set up, arrived as expected as always - and great prices!
Great Product By Bradon on 1/16/2014Bradon would recommend this product to a friendI'm not sure how well the "live" part of the sand works, but the texture and size of the sand is perfect. Not too small that it gets blown around, but not so big that it makes it look tacky.
Perfect size. Perfect product By lobro4 on 12/9/2013lobro4 would recommend this product to a friendIt's nice to have the 10 lb bag option. I needed it to add the finishing touches to aquascaping in a new aquarium. Grain size is just what you need. No extra sticks or seaweed or trash--clean. Comes with a small pouch of clarifier which is handy.
Nice sand By Jake Wilkerson on 10/15/2013Jake Wilkerson would recommend this product to a friendI've used it in the past with great results. Awesome consistancy and good packaging when you order 2 20s at a time.
Great substrate By James on 10/3/2013James would recommend this product to a friendI bought tis sand for two reasons grain size and bacteria. The color is perfect and grain size is really good for goby and pistol shrimp combos. The bacteria seemed to help control the ammonia and nitrite level at start up. BRS has great people helping you all you need to do is call and ask them a question and they will have the solution you are looking for. Thanks BRS!
Good size granules and very nice looking By James on 10/3/2013James would recommend this product to a friendI bought this with the live bacteria and good grain size in mind. Size mattered cause I wanted a goby and pistol shrimp combo and turns out they really seem to like this size granules. Like others have said don't let the pink name fool you it is in my opinion the exact color of sand I is the perfect color. The bacteria seemed to help control the ammonia and nitrite spikes again just like what I hoped it would. BRS has a very nice and well versed reef keepers on hand to help you in any way they can. I buy here on all items as long as they have what I need. Thanks BRS!

What is the shelf life of this sand? I want to purchase this now that it's on sale but will not be using it for perhaps a month or so.
Bulk Reef Supply Hi David,
That wont be any problem at all :-)

How much of this product would I need to cover a 36" x 18" surface to a depth of 1"-2"?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Kevin,
Right about 70lbs of sand would get you about 2" of sand bed on a footprint that size.

I am looking to put an inch depth in a new 225 gallon tank, 27x72. Is this sand really alive? I am starting with dry live rock and do not to put anything bad in my tank. Please advise. How much do I need? thx
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Adam,
It has the beneficial bacteria in it which is what makes it "alive" but it will still be pest free. Adding 1" of sand to a 27x72 area would require right about 100lbs of sand.

how much live sand do i need for a 55 gal tank with rock and fish
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Bill,
It depends on how deep of a sand bed that you are looking for. Assuming your tank is a standard 55g dimensions you can expect roughly a 1" sand bed for each 35lbs of sand that you use though.

How much sand do I need for a 120 gal tank?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Shane,
Assuming standard 2ft x 4ft dimensions of most 120g tanks. 120lbs would get you about a 2" sand bed which is pretty typical for most folks.

How much of this would I need for a normal 75g tank? I am looking at having a 2in deep sand bed.
Bulk Reef Supply It depends on the exact dimensions of your tank but assuming its 48x18 like most 75g tanks then your looking at about 100lbs for a 2" sand bed.

Would this sand work for an already established tank. I plan on replacing crushed coral with fiji pink. Dont know if I want to put live sand in.
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Jason,
It wouldn't be a problem at all to use this with an existing tank. The biggest concern would be to make sure you remove the old substrate a little bit at a time. You don't want to remove it all at once as there may be a high population of your bacterial filtration on it.
by Todd on May 9, 2014, @3:47 PM
Is this wet in the bag or dry?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Todd,
The sand is moist, generally with a little bit of liquid resting in the bottom of the bag.
Caribsea's Arag-Alive! Live Reef Sand is a great choice for new aquarists and new reef tank set ups. It cycles quickly to set up a natural biological balance.
