Hi Craig,
No need for panic, the Dino X is very neutral in odor, and even though there isn't a "chemical smell" to it, there is active ingredient :)

will this product work for green bubble algae? what are your recommendations for bubble algae whether it be this, something else, or a combination?
Question by: Lee on Feb 23, 2016 5:41:00 PM
Great question!
This will have an impact on Bubble algae however for best control manual removal while siphoning the water will help to remove the spores and keep the algae from spreading. In smaller cases often times Emerald Crabs will do a great job at controlling the levels. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Can Dino X be dosed in conjunction with Chemiclean? Cyano is quickly taking hold where the dinos have died and gone.
Question by: Shad Malone on Jun 8, 2016 6:54:00 PM
No reason they cannot be run together. We typically recommend waiting a few days between treatments so as t not shock the system. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.

Can I continue to run protein skimmer and GAC while dosing this?
Question by: Robert on Jan 10, 2017 11:39:00 AM
Great question! During the medication process, you will want to discontinue the use of both the carbon and skimmer. This will ensure the max contact and concentration. :-)

Is this product safe with a macro algae tank attached to main system? Have Dino's but don't want to risk a loss of macro algae.
Question by: Jeff on Jan 21, 2016 11:55:00 PM
Great question!
Dino X will have a negative impact on all algae in the aquarium and the refugium and macro algae should be disconnected from the system before dosing. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

I was wondering what would the right dose for a 75gal reef tank and does that include the sump tank water which would make more than 75gals.sump tank is 20 gal half full.I'm battling hair algae like everyone else I tried everything so i'm going to try this product and hope for the best.also do you have to manully remove the dead hair algae?
Question by: ERIC FAATZ on Jan 23, 2016 7:18:00 PM
Hey there!
Great question, For this product you will dose 5 mL per 26 gallons. On average tank of 75 Gallons you will need 15 mL every 2 days. This product will do a great job at reducing the growth of the hair algae however the dead and extra algae present will need to be manually removed. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

  • It did work for me By Worked for me with some coral lost on 4/19/2017

I dosed 21 days every other day as indicated and it did kill the strain of Dinofalagellats that I had. I am not sure of the exact strain that is was but it looked like a bad case of Diatoms not stringy looking like most of the time that I have seen in other peoples tanks. I did lose some of my corals, two blood shrimp and a cleaner shrimp. My Pistol shrimp made it throught the dosing period so I guess you could remove any inverts and corals before dosing if you are able to as to minimize any loses. But even with some of my losees the end result for me is the tank looks great.
  • Didn't work for dinoflagellates outbreak By James on 3/14/2017

I had an outbreak of dinoflagellates in my 300G system. I followed the DinoX dosing instructions exactly and did 10 treatments for 22 days. I went through almost 3 of the 250 mL bottles (over $100) and it had zero effect on the dino. Waste of money from my point of view.
  • Works Great! By T-Remp on 8/21/2016

Personally this product worked for me. I have a 65 gallon mixed reef that developed a pretty good Dino and Hair algae problem. I put two cap fulls of Dino X in every evening for a week, turned carbon reactor off and only turned my light on every other day. Before doing my daily dose, I always look at my coral and fish for signs of effects and saw zero. One week later most to all algae is gone. Great product if done correctly with a little thought.
  • It works By Nox on 6/28/2016

Reading a couple of reviews here about corals getting bleached when using Dino-X. Dinoflagellates is a type of zooxanthellae. Zooxanthellae is what gives coral its color. Dino-X is made to get rid of Dino, but if one doesnt calculate their water volume and end up over dosing , it will absolutely bleach coral. Rookie mistakes.

but if dosage is correctly calculated, and instructions are followed. Dino-X will be effective against common forms of Dinoflagellates. Sometimes it might take 2 rounds of 21 days each but it does work.
  • doesn't work By vince` on 6/23/2016

After dosing during 1 week my SPS corals started to bleach, and finally died. I do not recommend this product
  • Didn't work By Jeff on 6/20/2016

    Doesn't work at all

  • Dinoflagellates extinct By Littleman on 5/7/2016

Dino x got rid of my dino in 6 doses before dino x i used h2o2 dinoflagellates just kept coming back. I will use nothing else from now on with cyno or any other algae problem. Great stuff!!!.
  • Worked as described By Rcook on 4/30/2016

No more dino! Paired this with a UV, blackout. I no longer have dino in my tank at all 2 weeks after I stopped. I did not have a bad dino outbreak at all just on the sand mostly. At first it looked like this product was accelerating the growth of the dino but 6 days after the first dose it was almost all gone. I had to do 8 doses, 2 extra than I probably needed but I am so happy this worked for me!
  • Killed SPS By Jeffrey on 2/20/2016

I used this product for 21 days. It reduced the Dino but did not eliminate it. In the process I lost three Montipora and two Acropora and one Acropora is struggling. LPS are fine and Zoo's are a little unhappy. If you have an LPS only tank give it a try.
I'm currently dosing hydrogen peroxide with great success. Dino almost gone. Research first before using this method. 1ml per 10 gallons.
  • Definitely Helps! By Rob on 1/9/2016

I give 3 stars because I still have some dino, not bad but they are there. I kept lights on same routine and ran skimmer but did cut back on feeding the fish. I have some die back on sps however the peppermint shrimp and some sponges are doing ok as well as anemones. I may up my dosage, doing 2 mil per gallon of water. Also due to not understanding the instructions I dosed every day instead of every 2 days. So I started dosing hydrogen peroxide every other day.
  • Kills Dinos....and other things By TrevorM on 1/2/2016

I rarely post reviews of products, but I thought this one deserved it. I've been battling dinos for months, and have tried all sorts of natural treatments only to find them coming back stronger than ever.

Bottom line: this product works. You MUST ensure not to overdose, and be careful with certain sensitive animals like anemones (I should have heeded the warning and moved my to a QT). I lost a few SPS because I was aggressive with the dosing....this stuff kills a lot of good stuff along with the bad, so you need to take that into consideration. Ultimately, however, the dinos are gone, and my tank is thriving like never before with the proper balance of algae and bacteria.
