Quick Overview

Emperor Aquatics is now Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems.

Why does BRS recommend this?

When it comes to UV most other companies will recommend a small UV for a large tank which in reality won’t do much more than make your water look a bit clearer.  If your ultimate goal is to keep bacteria, protozoa, and other free floating pathogens at bay there really is no better choice than Pentair Aquatics for UV sterilizers.  With their real world ratings, we have tried other UV sterilizers and really nothing else has come close.  Even though they are a bit more expensive than other brands, their performance makes them worth every penny.

Suggested Aquarium Size: 90 gallon or less

  • Inlet/Outlet: 1.5" Slip Unions

  • Minimum Operational Flow Rate: 55 GPH

  • Maximum Operational Flow Rate: 92 GPH

Pentair Aquatics SMART UV Lite series features a compact space saving design which utilizes a 2" reaction chamber. When used properly UV Sterilizers significantly reduce the chance of encountering disease or algae outbreaks.

Product Questions

what pump is recommended for this sterilizer? I have a 75 gallon tank with sump.
Question by: kurt on Dec 26, 2013 6:27:00 PM
Hey Kurt,
Are you trying to target parasites/protozoa (like ich) or what is it that you are trying to target? Different critters require different contact times which are controlled via different flow rates. For these types of organisms for example emperor aquatics recommends a flow rate of 55gph.

I want to put a UV sterilizer on my Red Sea max c130. It does not have an actual sump or plumbing down below ( The C130 has a small sump behind the display ) but I have installed a canister filter which runs from the top to the bottom and back.
Since the UV sterilizer would not be hard plumbed are there adapters that I could go from PVC to the plastic tubing in the canister filter line ?
Question by: Chris on Apr 13, 2016 8:54:00 PM
Great question!
We do not recommend running a UV sterilizer in conjunction with a canister filter as often the canister filters flow should not be interrupted for performance. Ideally a second small pump can be installed in the system to separately feed the UV. The UV will have adapters which come included to convert the input to 3/4" female threads for PVC or a barb adapter for 3/4" soft tubing. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Does it work on 230v electric current for countries outside the USA?

Great question!
The UV sterilizers are intended for use with 110V North American options. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

I have a 65gal tank with a new green algae (murky green water) problem. I'd like to get an external UV sterilizer in a stand alone plumbing loop that I can remove when the problem is treated. Do you have any systems preconfigured for that use (i.e. pump and plumbing included)? If not, do you have a specific recommended pump and plumbing materials?
Question by: Will on Apr 7, 2016 4:00:00 PM
Great question!
We do not have a full kit, however the new UV sterilizers will come with barb fittings included so you can plumb in with soft tubing to 3/4" tubing. You will want a sicce 1.5 or 2.0 depending on the length of plumbing you will need. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

  • Great! By Dan Thomilson on 3/13/2013

Great product! I wish ACRA didn't post 3 poor reviews, because this is better than the rating he gave it, just follow instructions and you'll be fine. This unit is so much better than any UV I've tried in the past, I don't know if it's really strong, or the others were way underpowered, but it's fantastic! I've never been so happy with a purchase, high quality, great customer service (had a few questions before the purchase), and overall one of the best additions to my tank!
  • Just A Warrning! By acra1 on 4/21/2012

U/V sterilizers a must I think, with SPS. Just a note: for those purchasing E.A. for first time, when they say check for water leaks before plugging to outlet. It's not just your plumbing there talking about, the unit comes partially assembled, make sure you take it apart and check compression fitting on quarts sleeve. No warranty on water damaged bulbs,I found out the hard way.

To first time buyers of E.A. ,unit comes pre assembled except for bulb . make sure you disassemble and check compression fitting on quarts sleeve.
  • Great UV By John on 3/2/2012

Having used the aqua UV 25w in the past on tanks this one seems to be a more efficient UV and more user friendly with much more contact time.

I have read a ton of stuff about UV not being worth while. Everyone has a right to there opinion but when added this to my system I found I went from cleaning my glass twice a week to twice a month. I also have never encountered any disease in the tank and I do not quarantine. I think much of the bad rap UV gets is based on the tiny hobby models. This thing is huge.
