Product Questions

Can this pump be used on a 75 gallon tank with a bean overflow with 1" return?
Question by: Will on Jun 28, 2016 9:59:00 PM
Absolutely,
The pump will lose GPH flow the further it goes up in height and the 1" drain will be more than enough to handle the flow,
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Jul 1, 2016 9:56:00 AM
Is an Apex controller required to operate this pump?
Question by: Dave Lewis on Feb 8, 2016 1:15:00 PM
No answers yet. Be the first to answer the question!
Thanks BRS for the great videos and wonderful information you put out.
I just purchased this pump, and I forgot that my bulkhead return is 1" and this pump has 3/4" output.
Will this effect my return pressure in gph, going from 3/4 to 1"?
I am setting up a 40 gallon breeder with 25 gallon sump.

Thanks, Gayle
Question by: Gayle Webb on Mar 10, 2016 11:54:00 AM
Great question!
This will not have a negative impact and will allow for easier flow of the water through the pipe. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Mar 10, 2016 12:48:00 PM
Will this pump be enough gph for a 125g with 2 one inch return? I am running a blue line pump now that's running 1200 gph which is way to much flow.
Question by: Kirk Thomas on May 18, 2016 8:06:00 AM
Great question!
From our experience the 660 GPH would not be enough flow and would need to be running at 100% which negates the need for DC control. We recommend a larger DC pump running instead at a lower intensity to increase the life span of the pump and give variable speed.

How to maintain Waveline DC pump
Waveline DC pumps are designed and built in module-pattern. In most of the circumstance, the controller and AC/DC adapter can be easily replaced or re-organized. For example, a DC6000 controller and DC10000II AC/DC adapter and DC4000 pump body can run together. Nevertheless, DC4000 AC/DC adapter can not run the DC6000/DC10000II/DC12000 pumps.
We recommend the users should check and clean the pump in very 6 months or even in shorter period.
Muddy fresh water;
Salt water;
Hard Water, high K-Value water, high minerals water;
Warm water below 35 degree C or tropical climate water

The maintenance will be simple, unscrew the pump volute and check if any stocks
in pump impeller and volute. Use fresh water to clean all parts. Pull out the Shaft
to check if any mud, sands on the surface and clean the shaft house inside with
acid detergent, like Tunze Citric Acid. Use fresh water to wash out the whole pump
again.

  • Great product! By Bubba on 7/27/2016

    I have had this product running my FW planted aquarium for about 5 months and I absolutely love the pump. It replaced my Mag7 , which was pretty noisy. This pump is dead silent compared to the mag7. It's a little on the stronger side for my 38g planted tank . I am running it all full speed and I love it. Very pleased with this product.
  • 5 stars so far By Bruce on 5/30/2016

    Currently running a mix of Eheim, Sicce, Cobalt, and Rio pumps. The waveline is by far quietest. Biggest thing I noticed was when replacing one of the others with the same rating (GPH), had to turn this one down just above half to get same flow. Also love the soft start not making a big blast shock out of the return line when restarting....and oh yea, less power consumption, less waste heat, and smaller size than the AC equal ....time will tell the rest, in the meantime, I am impressed enough with this unit at this price I'll be getting a couple more.
  • Awful By Mitch on 4/19/2016

    I purchased two of these and one DC 6000 in October for a new setup. One of the DC2500 was put in the salt mix tank and the other on a closed loop line on the aquarium to run a carbon/GFO reactor. Both Failed. It appears that the housing swelled and the rotor became stuck... On both of them. Now my DC 6000 return pump is failing. DO NOT BUY WAVELINE!!! Now I am in a crunch to get a new return pump. Bulk Reef supply says they only carry quality items... If they mean that they will discontinue to carry this line of pumps.
  • Leaks By elgringodiablo on 3/18/2016

    I bought a couple of these recently, one for in sump use and the other for external use in my water storage room to mix salt water. Needless to say, I would not recommend this product as an external pump. Tried both of them in the pump room and they leak like crazy. Checked the seals and all of my plumbing. The front of the housing (volute) is not water tight by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe there is a special gasket they didn't include?? For the price and features, it seems pretty great, but I wouldn't recommend it for an external applications.
  • Amazing little pump! By Jimbo662 on 2/22/2016

    I bought this to replace the stock pump that came with a Fluval M90 tank (36g). I reduced it down to 2% and this little sucker was still pushing too much water for the internal sump to handle. I had to put the stock pump back on it.
  • Amazing little pump By Duane on 1/25/2016

    I replaced a mag 7 with this pump. This pump is very quiet and seems to be working great. I wanted a reef octopus pump but was out of my price range right now. I am happy with my purchase.
  • Not feeling reliable By techdef on 12/4/2015

    Bought two of these, one for return pump, one for skimmer about a month ago. Out of the box, one was missing parts. The other was then returned for not working at all. 2 weeks later and the replacement pump is squealing and making sounds like it'll fail any minute now. Yes, just disassembled and cleaned impeller. Slight improvement.

    I really want to like these, small, efficient, good control, quiet but perhaps not built well enough to feel like I can trust them after 3 failures in 3 weeks.
  • quiet and does the job By Ohmslaw on 11/30/2015

    Sound of this is low enough that you won't even hear it working over the other equipment in your system. Even when I put my ear to the sump, the sound I hear is the return water gurgling into the tank, can't hear this pump at all.
    Doesn't come with a cage or baffle to put over the intake to stop debris or escaped fish/snails getting in there. That's why I took one star away.
  • Must have By kyle on 11/27/2015

    I upgraded my old pump with this one. If it weren't for the overflow I would think the pump was off. Have not connected it to apex since it uses the same port as my wireless card. Starts up nice and smooth after feeding. No more blast of water and bubbles in my tank. Works great out of the box. Easier to take apart than all my other pumps.
  • noise By KEVO on 11/24/2015

    Have 3 of these, 2 of them make a lot of noise. Not worth the cost.
  • Can't get the pump to work By JM on 10/24/2015

    First time that I purchased a pump and although it making noise it won't move water.
  • The size will fool you By Bob E on 10/1/2015

    When I saw thus pump just out of the box, I thought, is this is going to work for my application? Well, it does. I'm likely to order another one. For 35 watts, full power, you get good flow. I just need to run at position 5 of 6 at a mere 28 watts. I was using a Blueline pump on my old downdraft skimmer and was consuming 125 watts 24/7. I purchased a new needle wheel external skimmer and had to restrict flow to slow down volume as skimmer styles were so different. So I went from a pump with a ball valve turned to a 30% opening and consuming 125 watts, to a very small DC pump that is set to 80% that is using 28 watts and if you slow it down more, you use less power. DC pumps are the future of our hobby. I will be changing my return pump from an 8 yr old Reeflo Barracuda(amazing pump), to a waveline DC12000. This will cut my power usage on that by 55% or more. I'm going to slow slow return flow to allow my sump to flow slower. Old school vs. new technology. Don't wait, start saving power now. I'm not saying that the DC 12000 will flow as much water as the Reeflo, but I need to slow flow anyway, why not save the power. Was thinking about the new Eco Tech return pump, but they don't seem to think that Apex control is that important. I do.
