Quick Overview

Sold by the pound

Why does BRS recommend this?

BRS Pukani Rock is by far our customer’s favorite rock. It fills the most volume per pound compared to other styles of rock, with tons of nooks and crannies for corals to be placed and small critters to hide out.  BRS Pukani Rock is pest and algae free to give the best start for any new tank.  It also has the ability to be shaped, drilled, or cut depending on the aquascape it will be used with.

Pukani is available in a wide variety of sizes.

  • BRS Pukani Dry Live Rock is generally less than 20" in diameter. Sold by the pound with no minimum order.

BRS recommends curing all rock before being used in an established system

Product Questions

How much Pukani dry rock will I need for 215 Gallon aquarium?
Question by: Roger on Jul 11, 2016 7:59:00 PM
Hi Roger,
Depending on the amount of rock you want in your tank, for the average aquascape we normally recommend anywhere from ¾ - 1 pound per gallon of the display tank. For your 215 gallon we would recommend to purchase right around 160 – 200 pounds of Pukani Dry Live Rock.

Full Details

BRS Pukani Dry Aquarium Live Rock - our lightest and most porous and full of holes that become nice homes and passage ways for your tank's inhabitants. Like all of our dry rock, Pukani is free of nuisance algae and pests which can cause complete tank shut downs. It is guaranteed to be free of apitasia, bubble algae, parasitic isopods, mantis shrimp, acro eating flat worms, little red bugs, fire worms, predatory nudibranchs, pyramidellid snails and other common pests.

Using Dry Rock has the following advantages:

  • Low initial cost on premium types of rock.
  • Pound for pound a way better value - no water weight.
  • Can be shipped standard UPS ground which saves a fortune on shipping.
  • Absolutely pest free. This is the most important reason. This allows you to completely avoid all of the most common aquarium pests that plague most aquarists.

BRS makes every effort to securely pack the Rock. However, the UPS automation is not always gentle on heavy products like this and they do not consider this product insurable. Because of this, there is some inherent risk with shipping rock like this across the country and it is impossible to replace or refund broken pieces. If this happens most pieces can be repaired with epoxy.

NOTE: This rock does come out of the ocean and may have some dead material on it such as sponges or other critters. We strongly suggest soaking or curing the rock before use in an active aquarium.

Dry live rock is not available for shipment to Canada due to high tariffs. Please consider Reef Saver rock as it is not subject to these fees and is our favorite of the dry rocks available.

  • Great Buy So Far By John on 8/28/2016

I received about 4 large pieces and a few small ones. They came well packaged and looked great. They are curing now and I'm excited to see them in my tank.
  • Good Size By Jonathan on 8/17/2016

I got this order and they came in good sizes. Really good for just starting off in the hobby.
  • Excellent Shipping and Product By Steelsoul on 8/15/2016

I ordered 25lbs, it came in a box and inside the box was Styrofoam lined and inside that was a heavy duty clear bag with the rock inside that. Shipping was very fast and all the rock arrived whole. You can use a hammer and a chisel to easily aquascape it and the rubble left after aquascaping works great for refugium substrate. Even tho this is labeled as Dry Live Rock, the key word is Live. There are sponges and other small debris in the tiny crevisis, you DO NEED to cure this rock or acid wash it and remove the sponges so they don't break down in your new tank set up. I will buy this again when doing a new tank and I highly recommend BRS for your live rock needs as their shipping/packaging tops all others!
  • IMO the BEST dry rock out there By SnowManSnow on 8/10/2016

what I love about this rock is the EASE with which you can shape it. This isn't rock you just pile into a giant stack against the back! Get some big chunks and sculpt whatever shape you want to make your reef awesome and open with great flow. HIGHLY recommended. I've used it on 3 tanks so far and will for the foreseeable future. ONE side note is that I ALWAYS acid wash it. It does ship with a lot of dead organics, and its just not stuff I want in my system.
  • NICE Rocks By Mark Steffen on 8/8/2016

Ordered 50 pounds of these and BRS packaged and sent some beautiful large and medium peices for my Reef Tank. They needed a good rinse as opposed to the Reef Saver Rocks, but they look great in my 180 gl tank.
  • Pukani Rock By Pat on 7/27/2016

I bought 50 lbs and it is outstandingly beautiful. One of the pieces is about 10 inches in diameter and will make a natural shelf. Thanks BRS.
  • Large well shaped rocks By Ken on 7/20/2016

Ordered 50 pounds, arrived well packed with no breakage. Surprisingly large rocks. Curing now. Can't wait to aquascape.
  • mixed 1/2 great 1/2 not representative of display By Mike on 7/12/2016

BRS was great in accommodating my needs for a IM 30L tank. 2 of the 5 pieces were light weight and perfect examples of pukani and are sufficient to cover the 30 L needs. The other pieces were relatively dense and will be held in reserve for non-show tanks. I did buy a large supply from a BRS competitor which showed up in pretty much a big "concrete" hunk that couldn't be manipulated into something that would work for my tank so BRS allowing to specify size is key to a good experience.
  • The best and safest way to go. By Mel on 7/11/2016

This is my second purchase of Pukani Rock. I have used live rock in the past and all the critters are not always friendly. Mantis shrimp are a real cramp. Lose a few expensive fish or tank mates and it will ruin your day. Perfect
