Product Questions

What are the general dimensions of the body of the BRS top off doser 50ml/min ?
Question by: jordan on Nov 30, 2013 2:49:00 PM
Hey Jordan,
It measures about 4.5"x3.5" and about 4.5" tall.

Can this be used reliably with kalkwasser?
Question by: Philip on Aug 3, 2014 8:20:00 PM
Hi Philip,
It sure can. The peristaltic tubing is made from Santoprene which won't be bothered by the Kalkwasser.
Answer by: Bulk Reef Supply on Aug 3, 2014 8:20:00 PM
what size of tubing does this pump use?
Question by: Greg on Mar 11, 2014 4:24:00 AM
Hi Greg,
The pump does come with plenty of tubing but if you needed more 1/4" tubing like 1/4" RO tubing works really well.

Does the reservoir have to be above or below the pump/tank for this to work?
Question by: Steve on Mar 12, 2014 7:05:00 AM
For this particular pump it doesn't matter as they won't create a siphon, though its always best practice to pump from a lower position to a higher position to make sure there isn't any risk of a siphon should something go wrong.
Answer by: Bulk Reef Supply on Mar 12, 2014 7:05:00 AM
I have a 36 gallon with no sump (using CPR Aguafuge 2 HOB). Is it possible to mount this below the display and pump up to the main tank? I'm not sure what kind of suction/pressure this provides.

I have this temporarily mounted next to the display, but I'd like to clear up my 'install'.

I'd also like to start into 2 part with the 1.1ml versions and was wondering if I could do the same with them, mount them under the main display and pump up the 26-30 inches total (from stand to display via tubing).
Question by: Scott on Jan 20, 2014 4:41:00 AM
Hi Scott,
Its not a problem at all to mount the pumps below the tank. They will easily draw up a standard tank height and they will push up to 20ft of head pressure. It would be no problem with the 1.1mL models either!

Hi, can i hook up this pump to my ro di low pressure tank? for auto top off.
Question by: william on Jul 6, 2014 10:15:00 AM
Hi William,
When you say low pressure tank, is it a pressurized tank at all, or is it what we would call an "atmospheric" tank like a barrel or bucket? The later would not be any issue at all.

BRS Top Off Dosers are intermittent duty pumps and not meant for continuous operation. We recommend on/off cycles under a few hours to maximize life span. This is a higher RPM motor than the BRS 2 Part Doser and may make a small amount of noise in operation but is much quieter than most dosing pumps in this flow rate range. Mounting the pump to the inside of a wooden stand will amplify sound.

  • Good product By Chris on 3/23/2015

I haven't had the durability problems that some others have reported. It is really the only option if you need more precise control over your top-off [I don't use float switch control, my pump runs for a set number of minutes each day and I make minor adjustments every 3 or 4 months to reflect the rate of evaporation in my tank.] It is also one of the only ways to run a top off system requiring a large lifting height.
  • cautions, but good product By Wade on 3/23/2015

Overall a good product, but be warned that heavy application (either lots of use of high pressure) will wear out the gearing. Mine failed at the 17 month mark. Motor turns, tubing is fine, but the gears are worn through. Have redundancy.
  • works good By mark on 3/17/2015

I bought this to top off during the night with Kalk and use my regular top of with RO/DI during the day. Mine measure 43 ml/M with about 5 feet of total tubing and less than a foot of lift. works good so far and is quieter than the relay on the apex its hooked up to.
  • Works great as ATO By Russell on 3/4/2015

Bought to serve as my auto top off pump controlled by Apex. Works well for that purpose. I like the noise, because it reminds me to check my ATO water to make sure it has enough RO/DI water.
  • Product is Good... Customer Service is Great! By PZCorp on 2/26/2015

This unit seems to do an overall good performance for the most part. Runs a little hot if used for too long of periods. I have 3 units and one did go down, but the staff help me trouble shoot then since it was under warranty they replaced the unit with no hassle. I am sooo thankful I found BRS a couple years ago. I first used them for the RO savings and now almost exclusively buy all my products from them. The learning videos also are a HUGE part of their great customer service!!
  • Great pump for kalkstirrers By Mike on 2/6/2015

I use this pump on my kalkstirrer. It is a solid, well built item that has never let me down. Precise amount dosed every time!
  • Grinding gears By Adam on 1/16/2015

OK so there are pro's and con's to these pumps. The do exactly what they are supposed to do, the water level in my tank is very stable. The only issue I have had is the first one I owned the gears stripped out in it. If it was not for BRS's awesome customer service I would be stuck with a $90 plastic block.

The second one has been running for a couple of weeks now and so far so good. If the gears are plastic then perhaps BRS should re-engineer these to have metal gears.

All in all though this is a good product and worth the money.
  • 1 a year? By Jason on 12/12/2014

Have my 2nd one of these just die on me again. Both lasted maybe a year. Gears are stripped.
  • Another failed pump By Kris on 11/15/2014

Used this pump for top off water in my ATO setup. Lasted 13 months, almost to the day. Like many other, the plastic gears in the drive stripped out. The way I have my ATO set up, this pump could run a maximum of 2 hours a day, and only for 10 minutes at a time every two hours. $90 for 1 year to operate under those conditions is pretty bad IMO.

When it was working, it could be quite noisy as well. That's not to say it always was, because every time it kicked on it was a surprise what kind of noise it would make. There were a few times where it was pretty quiet, though I stress few.

Gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because at least it made it a year. Sadly these days that seems to be an accomplishment for products.
  • Works good when it works.. By Mark on 8/18/2014

I bought two of these pumps for a future build I had coming up. After buying the new house, I started the build and installed these pumps Fed 2014. Used them for ATO since my RODI was in the basement. They worked great for that purpose. Now, one has already gone out. The gears stripped in it and the head no longer turns. So its only August 2014 and I didn't even get a year out of them but since I bought them over a year ago, Im past warranty. Warranty is not the issue, but paying 80 for a pump and only getting that long out of it when its only on maybe twice a day for 10 min at a time is not good. So I guess Im going to have to go a different way. The pump works good, never had an issue, its just the time you get out of it.. And after reading the reviews, Im not the only one with this problem.. So seems to be BRS might want to figure out what is up with the gears stripping out and fix it.. Just hope my second one on my other tank lasts long enough for me to come up with a better system..
  • Great for top offs By Brent on 8/16/2014

I bought this to suck from a 5 gallon RO/DI top off container and connected it to a timer to come on an intervals throughout the day. I have a HOT skimmer that requires a nearly constant water level to operate effectively, and this top off doser does that perfectly. I am very happy with this product. Please do be aware, though, that as the description stated, if you mount this inside of a cabinet (like I did), you can hear it when it is running.
  • Works great! By Brooks on 6/30/2014

Got product installed mounted without any issues. A bit slower than I expected but does the job flawlessly. Have it hooked up through a Apex IO Breakout box.
