Quick Overview

Emperor Aquatics is now Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems.

Why does BRS recommend this?

When it comes to UV most other companies will recommend a small UV for a large tank which in reality won’t do much more than make your water look a bit clearer.  If your ultimate goal is to keep bacteria, protozoa, and other free floating pathogens at bay there really is no better choice than Pentair Aquatics for UV sterilizers.  With their real world ratings, we have tried other UV sterilizers and really nothing else has come close.  Even though they are a bit more expensive than other brands, their performance makes them worth every penny.

Suggested Aquarium Size: 160 gallon or less

  • Inlet/Outlet: 1.5" Slip Unions

  • Minimum Operational Flow Rate: 98 GPH

  • Maximum Operational Flow Rate: 164 GPH

Pentair Aquatics SMART UV Lite series features a compact space saving design which utilizes a 2" reaction chamber. When used properly UV Sterilizers significantly reduce the chance of encountering disease or algae outbreaks.

What replacement bulb does this item use? Hoping it is not the power supply as other users have said. Is there a way to tell if it is the bulb or power supply?

  • Working fine after a year By Todd on 11/16/2016

I have had no issues with this steralizer, just due for a new bulb at this point. Power supply is working fine.
  • Power supply issues By Kpricec on 7/24/2016

Same problem as the other reviewers. Thought it was just the bulb, but after ordering a new bulb it was the power supply as well. Wish I had known before ordering it. Now the question is bite the bullet for a new power supply that I will have to replace again in a year or two or look for a better quality sterilizer?

So you need a UV sterilizer, well, this is a very nice once except that quality issues. One of the selling points of this UV sterilizers is that it has a good reputation as far as the quality is concerned, however after about 1 year, the power supply went out. I thought it was the light, so got a new light, nope. It is the power supply. Contacting the manufacturer did not help, they said that just because it is over 1 year, I am out of luck. So 90 bucks for a new one. I don't think I would have purchased this had a I known that every year, I would be paying for a new bulb and new power supply. That is over 150 bucks a year to maintain UV sterilizer. Bulb I can understand but power supply too. Otherwise the rest of it is built like a tank but the critical part that will give out on you is the power supply. and it is huge which is a plus, means it is working. I contact the manufacturer twice and they said, nope if it is over 1 year, you have to buy a new power supply.
