Does the wavemaker 4 utilize a slow start on the powerheads so there is no clicking sound like the one you hear when plugging in non controllable koralias?

The situation with the 12v controllable pumps and controllers is a bit different then with normal powerheads. The wavemaker 4 only works with the koralia controllable pumps. Controllable pumps run on 12v DC instead of AC current, so they always run in the right direction and won't make a clicking sound, which is the result of the pump starting in the wrong direction (so a non controllable/12v pump even on a "soft start" will still make the clicking noise as it has to do with the direction).
Really it is this, along with the fact that the speed can be varied up and down, that sets controllable pump setups like these, the tunze, and the ecotech pumps apart from your standard powerhead.
The Hydor Koralia Wavemaker 4 is required to control Koralia 12V pumps. Koralia Wavemaker 4 Specs:
- Controls up to 4 Koralia 12V Powerheads
- 2.5" LCD monitor
- Food mode slows pumps down for for feeding
- Night mode slows pumps to simulate calmer night conditions*
- Precise easy programming
- Simulates wave or tide effects
- Fully adjustable flow direction
*Required light sensor not included.
