The pH probes are universal and interchangeable. You can use this probe to replace a DA probe, Neptune, probe, etc. The ORP probes are also interchangable though its worth mentioning that the SL1 has a pH/ORP probe ports. If you ordered the SL2 it has a single pH probe port and then a salinity port (no ORP).
We get this question a lot. This is a bit of a misconception as its really common for folks to say "calibrate your probe" but what they really mean is "calibrate your controller for your new probe". A pH probe is actually a "dumb" device, it has no electronics in it so you actually never calibrate the pH probe itself. What you do is calibrate your controller when you add a new probe to it. Your basically teaching the controller how to understand the new probes values/readings. Generally you should always calibrate your controller when you add a new pH probe and your controller will have instructions on how to do so!
It sure is. Pretty much all the probes/monitors/controllers in the hobby are interchangeable.
You sure can. When it comes to pH and ORP probes pretty much any model you find in the hobby will be interchangeable.
I don't have any experience with the Reef Angel but assuming it uses the same standard BNC connector and technology as every other probe, then yes it certainly will.
It will vary depending on you use of the probes, if they support equipment like Calcium reactors ideally once a month for proper levels. If just monitoring the tank once every 3-6 months typically is fine to check for any major swings. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
It sure will. Actually the body of pretty much any probe will be the exact same size and is largely universal. The only exception to this is that the bottom of the Neptune Temperature Probe is fatter then a typical probe, though it will still fit into almost any probe holder as long as you put it in from the bottom.
It sure will!
Is this PH probe fully submersible? Thanks
This probe should not be fully submerged in that tank. This is not due to water issues rather there can be other factors such as stray voltage and other components which can lead to false readings when submerged. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
The SLX module from Digital aquatics has 2 ports for pH probes attached. This will give you the dual probe ability. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
also how long is the expected life of this probe, and what is the test to know when the probe needs replacing.
also which combination of fliuds should i use to calibrate. 4 and 7 or 7 and 10
thanks a lot
Typically, we change the probes every 1.5 to 2 years as a proactive practice. You will notice that a probe is failing if it begins reading very abnormally or loses its calibration rather quickly. We usually calibrate every 4-6 months with 7 and 10 solution, and test calibration monthly by putting the probe in a known calibration solution.
Sure can! pH and ORP probes in the hobby use standardized BNC connectors and are interchangeable.
It does not as you may need different solutions for different applications. You would want to pick up the the calibration solution of your choice. Personally I recommend the Milwaukee for our probes because the tall narrow pouch makes it easy to get the probe submerged.
It does not. Depending on what the controller/meter is and your application there is a variety of solutions that may be necessary for your individual setup. Usually however its a combination of ph 4, 7, and 10 solutions with 7 and 10 being the most common for in tank pH probes.
It sure is. All of the controllers and ph probes in the hobby are interchangeable and compatible. You can even use a reef keeper pH probe with the apex as well.
BRS Lab Grade pH Probe Features:
Double Junction Probe: A double junction probe has a second seal and junction found at the center of the probe. The double junction design adds to the cost and complexity of the probe but they are recommended in instances where the probe will come in contact with proteins or heavy metals. When these elements come in contact with the silver within the probe gel they can precipitate on the porous junction and clog it which can cause drift and shorten the life of probe.
The double junction design used in this probe has a second junction in the center of the probe which creates two chambers within the probe. The first one is filled with the reference gel containing mostly potassium chloride, silver chloride and reference probe. The second chamber has just reference gel containing mostly potassium chloride. This design prevents precipitation by keeping the silver away from the second porous junction at the bottom of the probe which is exposed to the aquarium water.
The BRS Lab Grade probe uses pelon strips as a junction material which is a true electrochemical insulator which allows a complete circuit between the reference probe and the tank but allows a very minimal transfer of elements found within the probe or tank. The pelon strip is also much easier to re-wet than the ceramic junctions in the case of accidental drying out of the probe.
The BNC connector is also made to higher quality specifications with superior insulators between the shell and center pin to reduce noise and increase accuracy. The outer shell on the BRS Lab Grade Probe is made using epoxy rather than less expensive polycarbonate which is what most probes use because it is the most inexpensive material available. The epoxy shell is a highly resistant material and inert to a wide range of materials making this one of the more chemically compatible options available for probes like this.

Quality not worth the price premium By Shuan on 1/24/2017Shuan wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI still not convinced this is better than a $10 probe from ebay. The first probe I got, died on me in just couple months. Its read went from 8 to 6 back to 8 in terms of minutes, then eventually stayed in 2. Got a replacement a month ago, it is already start jumping down and back up. Who know how long it will hold this time. Not durable enough for its price tag.
Top Notch By Steve on 12/10/2016Steve would recommend this product to a friendI have both Neptune and BRS probes. The Neptune is used in the fuge tank and the BRS in the calcium reactor. I calibrated both when I purchased the controller and then again about 3 months later. A very minor adjustment on one of them the second time around. Now just today I pulled the probes more for cleaning than any other reason. Soaked them in vinegar, peroxide and ro water to remove the crusty critters and coralline. Not so much on the BRS probe but it also lives in a high calcium environment. Cleaned up rinsed and BRS probe checked in 4.0 and 7.0 solution. Settled at 3.99 and 7.02 after six months use. Spot on as far as I'm concerned. No adjustment needed. The Neptune probe did just as well at 7.0 and 10.
That leaves two more things to consider. Having lab experience, we typically replaced pH probes every couple of years. Kind of what I expect. Maybe I'll be surprised?
Other than that is cost. Kind of a no brainer for me but I'll leave that to all of you to do your own math. Looks like another home run for BRS as far as I can tell.
it ok By victor on 4/8/2016victor would recommend this product to a friendit would be better if come whit the calibration solution packages
Excellent By sromero287 on 12/17/2015sromero287 would recommend this product to a friendWhy pay more for average quality if u can have simply the Best at BRS, keeps calibration for months!!!!!!
No problems here! By Brian on 12/13/2015Brian would recommend this product to a friendI originally tried to go cheap and bought a pH probe on eBay that never worked right from the start. I guess that's what you get when you pay $10 for a pH probe. I did manage to get this probe during the Black Friday sale which made it the same price as Apex standard Ph probe. I didn't even calibrate it yet. I stuck it in the probe mount in my sump, plugged it into my mp1 module, and checked the reading. I then performed a ph test on my water and it was spot on with the probe! Checked a couple more times and have found this probe to be rock solid.
Very reliable By Fishers Coral Reef Farm on 11/25/2015Fishers Coral Reef Farm would recommend this product to a friendWe do not keep the probe in tank water 24/7 due to algae growth within the reference junction. We also do, and recommend, storing the probe tip in pH probe storage solution. With this practice, we find the BRS lab grade probe obtains a stable reading with 7 and 10 calibration solutions during the calibration procedure. Other probes begin to take longer to equilibrate after about 12-18 months of use. With these probes, we also find that our monthly 'as found' pH during calibration is very close to the 'as left' and often does not require any calibration adjustment on the meter. We'll be buying another one of these to control our CO2 reactor. Unfortunately, that one will have to remain in the system water 24/7.
Works well maintains calibration By Richard on 11/19/2015Richard would recommend this product to a friendThis probe, in my opinion, performs as good or better than Neptune probes.. Have used one for over a year and I test 3 probes in my system evrey three months. I use a borrowed pH tester and test before calibration. I also move the probes between tanks sometimes and i have never had to calibrate the BRS probe.
Great By Phil B on 7/31/2015Phil B would recommend this product to a friendVery happy with this probe. Hooked right up to the Apex, calibrated quickly and up and running in no time. Happy to have the extra quality at a lower cost :)
Love it By Fish tank Jeff on 5/11/2015Fish tank Jeff would recommend this product to a friendOk so I finally decided to give this probe a try and I love the quality of it and it calibrates very fast, it reads right on, will buy this one again when needed, works great with my reef keeper elite.
