Great product By rfiebee on 9/23/2014rfiebee would recommend this product to a friendThis is a simple, cost effective dosing system that does the job with little effort. I've been dosing manually since moving up to 180 build and made the jump to automation. I didn't want to pay for the name and all the bells and whistles that i know I would never use. This was the solution and I couldn't be happier. BRS does a great job with alternative sourcing methods to come up with solutions that are practical, simple, cost effective and get the job done. Kudos guys.
Recommend it all day long
Positive By Tim on 9/19/2014Tim would recommend this product to a friendEasy to setup, easy to mix up the solution(s), easy to dial in with simple testing of your params and a little logic. For instance, I dosed my tank, then tested ALK and Ca. I didn't dose manually for 24 hours, at which point i tested again and saw how my levels dropped. Then, I waited another 24 hours, and did the same. I then averaged the two usages to come to a daily consumption rate. I then used the BRS calculators and lucked into dialing in my dosage with my Apex on the first try. Used a little extra to bring it up to where I wanted, then started the dosing schedule, stable params!!!!! Seems so much easier to deal with than a Ca Reactor ( tho i've never owned one )
delivered as promised on time and free/UPS sweet By scottp on 9/11/2014scottp would recommend this product to a friendStill in the process of configuring everything but it is a very well developed product for those who like to keep it simple and straight forward.

Must Have By Andrew on 1/28/2014Andrew would recommend this product to a friendI think that this is a must have product after using this for a couple months. The thing I love about this is I can leave for a week and not worry about dosing my tank. It is all taken care of. It takes a little fine tuning to get it dialed in but is totally worth it. This kit keeps my take parameters stable.

What is used for the Alkalinity solution. I can tell from the pic that the calcium is provided via Calcium Chloride, but I can't tell if it is Sodium Carbonate or Sodium Bi-Carbonate for the Alkalinity, as I would like to judge how this will effect my pH.
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Tim,
You can use either Sodium Carbonate (soda ash) or Sodium Bicarbonate to supplement Alkalinity. The main difference between the two is that Soda Ash will raise your pH along with Alkalinity and Sodium Bicarbonate will not raise pH. Soda ash will also raise the Alkalinity more by volume so you will need to adjust dosage based on which one you choose.
If your system naturally runs at a high pH (above 8.3 - 8.5) I would go with Sodium Bicarbonate but otherwise Soda Ash will help bring up your systems pH.
I hope this helps!
Have a great day :)

Wait if there is magnesium calcium and alkalinity wouldn't i need three pumps
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Cameron,
Magnesium declines very slowly and generally only needs to be added once a month or sometimes even less so most folks opt to save the expense and just dose the magnesium by hand when necessary.

Does the kit come with tubing for the pumps also?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Greg,
It sure does. The pumps themselves come with a little over 15ft of tubing each.

Will I need to buy 2 timers for this if I do not have a controler
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Michael,
That would be the best way to do it, though if they were running for the same amount of time (which would generally be the case) you could run them off a timer with two outlets as well like our Hamilton Digital Timer. That said though, might be worth picking up a simple controller like the Reef Keeper Lite Basic. By the time you add up the cost of 4 timers its basically paid for itself not to mention the temp probe and controller functions themselves.

Does the 1 gallon total package mean it comes with one gallon jugs or that it only makes one gallon of each solution?
If this package makes more than 1 gallon how much does it make?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Louis,
The 1 gallon package contains 1 gallon of each dry reagent. How many gallons of solution this makes depends on the particular ingredient but your looking at about 8 gallons of alkalinity and 6 gallons of calcium in most circumstances.

Other than Fauna Marin's Balling system, is there another system you can use to go along with BRS two part? I'm trying to wait for you guys to get some Fauna Marin stuff in. But it seems like that is a lost cause for the near future. Thanks
Bulk Reef Supply Hi David,
Really just about any of them would work but the easiest is the Red Sea supplements because they have simple dosing recommendations based on calcium consumption (if you raise your calcium by X, add Y amount of trace elements).

Can any combination of calcium, alk, and mag be mixed together and dosed from one pump, if not and i need to use individual pumps can should they be dosed at different times and how much time between each?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Robert,
The solutions must remain seperate from each other until they are added into the aquarium. You will want individual dosers for the calcium and alkalinity (which two are included in this package so your covered there). Most folks dose the magnesium by hand as it typically only needs to be added weekly or monthly, compared to the daily dose on the calcium and alkalinity.
Its best to dose them at separate times to high flow areas of the tank, though if dosed slowly to separate high flow areas of the tank its generally not an issue if you need to dose them at the same time either.
The 2 Part Calcium & Alkalinity Total Package with Dosers includes everything you need to make your own 2 Part Solution and begin dosing. Simply measure the dry material with a household measuring cup and mix with water in the included gallon jugs. This kit will help maintain Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium parameters in the tank in easy once a day doses. It also makes it easy by automating the 2 Part Solution using a dosing pump to make your daily additions. Your corals will be healthier and grow faster.
Each Kit Includes:
- 2 BRS 2 Part Dosers 1.1 mL per minute
- ½ or 1 gallon of Calcium
- ½ or 1 gallon of Alkalinity
- ½ or 1 gallon of Magnesium Chloride
- ½ or 1 gallon of Magnesium Sulfate
- 3 clear PVC 1 gallon jugs with caps
- (2) 1 ounce dispensing pumps
- (2) 100 mL cups for measuring liquid solution
- 1 Funnel
BRS 2 Part Dosers are ideal for automating 2 Part dosing. Our peristaltic pump has an extremely accurate 1.1mL per minute flow rate. Silent operation. The pump utilizes a unique system that attaches the drive shaft at the bottom and top to eliminate shaft wobble. Precision two roller design extends pump life and will not back siphon. Not for continuous use.
Use the BRS Reef Calculator to calculate dosage amounts. For more information on how to use the 2 Part Solution click here.
