Quick Overview

Maintaining proper magnesium levels helps achieve the essential balance of calcium and alkalinity in your tank by preventing excess calcium carbonate precipitation. BRS Bulk Magnesium Chloride is crystalline hexahydrate and dissolves crystal clear. These small crystals are easier to measure than larger flakes used by other supplements.

Bulk Reef Supply constantly strives to provide the best additives possible at the best price. BRS Bulk Magnesium Chloride is produced using only the best pharmaceutical grade material available and meets strict BRS purity standards. For best results, mix with BRS Bulk Magnesium Sulfate as part of the popular 2 Part Calcium and Alkalinity solution as well as a standalone magnesium supplement. NOTE: You can tell a lot about the purity of magnesium supplements when magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride are mixed together. High quality/purity magnesium supplements will mix together crystal clear. When mixing lower purity supplements you will usually see white precipitation and sediment form especially when mixed together.

What is the percentage of MgCl in the aquarium supplement? Is it a composite with SoCl and CaCl?
Question by: Jon Goeschl on Jul 13, 2016 2:58:00 PM
Hi Jon,
The BRS Bulk Magnesium Chloride Aquarium Supplement is exactly that, straight Magnesium Chloride. We do not put any other elements in with it. If you are looking for a solution that contains multiple elements you may want to check out the Reef Foundation system from Red Sea, but if you are looking for straight Magnesium Chloride this is what you are looking for.

What is the difference between Mag Sulfate and Chloride? Do i need to add both to tank? I use a two part Alk/Cal system now with the mechanical dosing system. I was thinking of adding an additional dosing pump for the Mag solution. RECOMMENDATIONS??
Question by: John on Dec 3, 2013 2:23:00 AM
Hey John,
Most folks use a combination of magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate when adding the magnesium to the aquarium. With a two part system its generally a ratio of 5 cups of magnesium chloride to 3 cups of magnesium sulfate in 1g of water. This is to help keep the ratio of chloride and sulfate ions as close to what they are in natural seawater as possible.

There certainly is no reason you can't use a dosing pump for your magnesium. Most folks just do it by hand though as it usually only needs to be dosed once a week or commonly as little as once a month.

can a person use this in the bathtub instead of magnesium chloride flakes?
Question by: Jenn on Jul 31, 2014 6:10:00 AM
Sorry, but these products are aquarium supplements and are in no way for human consumption or use.
Answer by: Bulk Reef Supply on Jul 31, 2014 6:10:00 AM
Folks, let's see if I have my maths right.
A cup of Mag Sulfate or Chloride is 8oz, right? So, 5 cups of Chloride are 40oz, as well as 3 cups of Sulfate are 24oz. That would make a gallon of solution, which are 3.78 liters of solution. To rise 100ppm of magnesium in a 800 liters tank, I would need 1704ml, that's what the calculator says. Which is the same as saying 18oz of Chloride and almos 11oz of Sulfate, aprox in the solution.
So, buying the bottle with 6lbs of Chloride and one of 4lbs of sulfate, should be enough to produce about 20 gallons (75litres) of solution, and rise 4200ppm a 800litres tank.
Am I right?
Question by: Luis Mondino on Jun 20, 2016 1:30:00 PM
Great question!
Everything is correct! In order to calculate how much you need to add to reach your desired level of magnesium you can ensure you test for how much magnesium currently is int eh system with a test kit.

  • good By Dr. Zoidburg on 11/19/2016

I like the really fine grain size compared to fosters and smith. Makes using a funnel a breeze. Following the mix ratio and calculator the tests come up spot on.

  • much easy to use than chunks supplied by others By Bill on 4/20/2016

The relatively fine size and consistency of the magnesium chloride made it much easier to handle than the chunky form provided by the previous source. The plastic bottle is much easier to handle than their plastic bags, as well as more reusable.
  • Easy to use and works By Eric on 2/8/2016

Like the magnesium sulfate, easy to mix and use with the calculator. My magnesium is where it needs to be now.

  • Must buy By Michael on 7/29/2015

I have had my wallet drained using other mag supplements due to having to use a whole bunch of product to raise mag 100 ppm. Not to mention all the left over particles and horrible to mix.
With BRS mag chloride I am impressed how it mixes easy with a small amount of water and is crystal clear. Used the BRS calculator with a very small amount to raise mag 100 ppm, couldn't be happier and knowing that the product will last for at least a year makes my wallet smile.
I was spending 20 to 40 dollars a month with other inferior product.
You will kick yourself for not buying this product sooner.
  • nice stuff By Damon on 6/10/2015

Great product, easy to use and mix. NEED TO KEEP IT IN DRY PLACE! It picks up moisture very easily, even in the container and then it's tough to break apart.
  • Great products for the reef By Shannon on 12/17/2014

Always great quality in a quantity that's priced right - I'm a long time customer and this works great for my two-part regime.
  • Great Product that WORKS. By Idol on 12/11/2014

This Magnesium supplement functions exactly as stated. Savings in cash is also very important and that is what this also does very well.
  • Better than the other brands By Sjohnson on 11/30/2014

I have used other brands in the past and wont go back. This stuff is ground smaller than other brands so it dissolves very quickly and easily. This stuff is super clean too. The old stuff I used always left the bottom of my container cloudy and there was always some brown residue as well. This stuff is perfectly clear when dissolved and no residue is left behind.
