Kalk powder 22.5# "5 gallon" pail--good deal By Michael on 11/27/2014Michael would recommend this product to a friendThe stuff somehow even smells cleaner, somehow, than Mrs Wages.
On sale, this was one of the least expensive sources I found.
I went with my BRS pals because they have been consistent supporters of Michiganrwefers.com.
Glad I did.
...be careful if you are "upgrading" or are replacing old product--your pH may elevate more quickly than you expect. Glad I did...
I Love Kalkwasser By June2881 on 10/16/2014June2881 would recommend this product to a friendI am dosing 2 tablespoons of kalkwasser mixed with 1/3 cup of vinegar and 2 gallons of RODI water into my 200 gallon sps tank and I couldn't be happier. I'm running zeovit which requires natural levels of elemtents and using kalkwasser to maintain 400 ca and 7.5 alk couldn't be any easier. I highly recommend dosing kalkwasser to anyone with low ph and lots of corals.

Fantastic Value By Andrew on 3/28/2014Andrew would recommend this product to a friendWorks awesome in my ATO unit!!! I use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and when the ATO kicks on it raises my PH from 7.8 to 7.9 after the water circulates. I will gradually increase the dosage to 1 teaspoon per gallon in about 2 months. I use Reef Crystal Pro for my salt and change about 10% of my water per week. I say about because I break the water changes up into 2-3 small water changes of 3-4 gallons at a time. My Red & Green Goniopora are like grumpy old men and don't like any changes.

BRS Kalkwasser By Steven on 2/22/2014Steven would recommend this product to a friendGreat product from Bulk Reef Supply. I have used other Kalkwasser products and strait pickling lime. BRS's Kalkwasser is by far the best I have used, it has the least amount of parcipitate that settles out.
kalkwasser By alex on 2/7/2014alex would recommend this product to a friendBest stuff I have ever used. My tank parameters are staying stable with 420 calcium alk at 10 and ph at 7.8. very satisfied customers service is top notch and delivery was spot on. Definitely will be purchasing from BRS in the future.

Do you ship Kalkwasser into Canada?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Scott,
Things with customs can change rapidly, but at this time we don't have any issues sending Kalkwasser to Canada.

I've added kalkwasser to my ATO with the ratio of 1 teaspoon per gallon of ATO volume. It doesn't seem to dissolve, just settle out after a couple hours. I don't run a circulation pump in my ATO as it's only 7 gallons and I'm filling it every week. Would a circulation pump help dissolve the kalk? Would you recommend the circulation pump only coming on with the top off pump? I've read you shouldn't circulate kalk when it's in an ATO, is this true?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Adam,
You specifically do not want to circulate kalk as you will actually deplete it by doing so (your continuously adding co2 which will deplete it). Its normal to have some sediment when you mix kalk and nothing to worry about. Give it a good mix when you put it in and then just allow it to settle and use it.

Does kalkwasser actually raise levels? Or just maintain your levels? I'm being told both.
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Joseph,
Technically you have to raise the levels to maintain the levels (maintaining really just means your increasing the levels at the same rate its being consumed). The confusion comes from the fact that kalk would be a poor choice to try and raise the levels by more then that because of its significant pH effect. If you added enough kalk to say raise your tanks calcium from 400 to 450, you would also raise the pH to catastrophic levels. It also suppliments both calcium and alkalinity, so you can't raise one without messing with the other. Two part would be what you want for adjusting levels.

how do i know how much to put in my ATO reservior? is there a calculator like the ones for calcium and alkalinity on BRS?
Bulk Reef Supply Kalk can't be added to raise your calcium and alkalinity like you would with two part because the pH swing would be so significant (hence no calculator option). When it comes to kalk you can add up to 2 teaspoons per gallon of top off water but I would start with 1/2 teaspoon. If that isn't enough to keep up with your consumption then you can go ahead and kick it up a notch until you find that sweet spot.

My Question is if you can't put a power-head in to mix the solution because you might remove a significant amount of the kalks usefulness, then what happens when you drip the solution into your tank? With so much circulation/water movement, wouldn't that just deplete it within a few minutes?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Tim,
The water chemistry in a container of a kalkwasser solution is extremely different from the water chemistry of an aquarium. In the aquarium the concentration is much lower and precipitation far less of an issue (though if you add to much kalkwasser to the aquarium and increase the concentrations too high it will precipitate just as it would in the storage container). Used correctly though that will not be a problem.

I don't have a,auto top off, how would I dose then?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Rick,
If you don't have an auto top off (which I would highly recommend) then your going to need a kalk dripper of some sort. Check out this video we made on making your own kalk dripper.

In reading some questions asked and answered, I came across one about using a circulation pump to dissolve the Kalk. The answer was not to, but could you at least use it initially to dissolve the kalk? Just when you add it in the beginning to mix it up. If not, then how would you mix it in a 20 gallon brute trash can?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey David,
If you really wanted to you could run it for like a minute, but just pouring the kalk in and mixing it for a minute or two by hand generally suffices as well. The thing you don't want to do is continue to agitate it after the initial mixing. If for example you put the power-head in for as little as a half hour you may remove a significant amount of the kalks usefulness.
Kalkwasser - This will be used for daily dosing to maintain calcium and alkalinity levels as well as elevate the tanks pH. Because this product does elevate the pH, it is important to dose slowly in small amounts. This product is designed to be used daily to continually replace calcium and alkalinity as it is consumed and not to make large adjustments.
Calcium Chloride - This is used to make larger adjustments to calcium levels. This product has no effect on the tank's pH so it is possible to make larger changes to calcium levels in single doses.
Sodium Bicarbonate - This is used to make larger adjustments to the tank's alkalinity levels. Sodium bicarbonate does have a small temporary lowering effect on the tank's pH. It is possible to make relatively large adjustments to the tank's alkalinity without a major impact on the tank's pH but it is wise to monitor the tank's pH while dosing.
Magnesium Mix - Dosed occasionally to maintain magnesium levels. Maintaining correct magnesium levels helps prevent calcium and alkalinity from precipitating and makes maintaining correct parameters much easier.
