Great product! By Davide on 11/21/2014Davide would recommend this product to a friendThis product is excellent. I use this with the BRS dosing pump system. My KH level stays consistent. This product is easy to mix and store as well.
dosing alkalinity easy By Mario on 6/9/2014Mario would recommend this product to a friendOnly way to go if you need to dose alkalinty in your tank. I warm up my water which made mixing a lot easier. Once it is all dissolved its crystal clear. Using BRS calculater makes dosing easy.
Good Stuff By Pat on 5/18/2014Pat would recommend this product to a friendWorks well at a good price. Have tried others but this is the best way to go for me.
One part two part By Carman on 4/25/2014Carman would recommend this product to a friendThis is the only thing I will use. I just don't think using dosing pumps is a good thing because you're tank dose not always eat the same all the time. But after you have a take setup for three or more years and not puting more anything els in it you can try using dosing pump but test weekly the best test with out going lab grade is Red Sea.

Great Product By Corey on 6/24/2013Corey would recommend this product to a friendI have been usuing this product for a year with no problems. Once its dialed in on the dose I just refill my dosing containers when they are empty. I have great coral growth on all my SPS and SPS corals. I have a slight problem with low Alkalinity so I can't run this 1 to 1 with my calcium. I dose at knight at a very low rate.
Great product By Bill on 6/7/2013Bill would recommend this product to a friendThis is a great, cost efficient two part dosing solution. I have used it in my 200g system for over two years with success.

do i need both sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate to dose for ALK?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Jose,
Just one or the other will do the trick as they both accomplish the same thing. The difference is that sodium bicarbonate will have a very slight pH lowering effect and sodium carbonate will have a small ph raising effect. If your pH is less then 8.4 normally, most folks go with the soda ash (sodium carbonate).

2 level dry measuring cups of soda ash is equivalent 2oz ?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi there,
There is 8 fluid ounces in a standard household measuring cup, so two cups would be equivalent to 16 fluid ounces. This would also be equivalent to about 473mL.

How many gallons of final product do you get from a one gallon size container? Is the suggested mix of two cups per gallon the max that will dissolve, or just the ideal amount? Can you mix it stronger if you want to change the ratio of alk to calc using a dual dosser with a single control for both?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Frank,
There is 16 cups in a gallon, so if you follow the recipe of 2 cups per gallon of solution it will make 8 gallons of solution.
The 2 cups is both near the maximums solubility and easy unit of measurement to measure. it it will match the dosage for calcium. If you alter the recipe its no longer going to conform to the calculator and the dosage will no longer match up with the calcium. You don't want to alter the ratio of calcium to alkalinity because corals always consume them in a fixed ratio that is the same ratio the solutions are mixed to (so if you mix them up correctly, you should always be dosing matched amounts of calcium and alkalinity solutions).
At the current recipe you could do as you say, control both on the same timer (because the dosages would be matched), if you alter the recipe or solutions that would no longer be possible.
Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate) is used alone or in combination with BRS Bulk Sodium Bicarbonate to maintain proper alkalinity and raise the pH of your tank. Most commonly used in the 2 Part daily dosing system in conjunction with BRS Bulk Calcium Chloride to maintain proper calcium and alkalinity levels on a daily basis. Dissolves crystal clear and meets strict BRS quality standards.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MIX SODA ASH
- 1 Standard 8 oz. dry measuring cup
- 1 Mixing spoon
- 1 Funnel
- 1 Empty 1 gallon jug
- 1 Clean 1 gallon bucket or bowl
- 1 RO/DI or distilled water
MIXING DIRECTIONS FOR 2 PART
- Fill gallon jug 5/6 full with RO/DI or distilled water and pour into empty bucket/bowl.
- While stirring water, add 2 level dry measuring cups of soda ash.
- Once dissolved, use funnel to transfer solution to gallon jug.
- Label Alkalinity and let sit before use.
NOTE: If you have difficulty dissolving alkalinity solution float the jug in a sink of hot water and shake vigorously. Alternatively, you can mix the solution in a large open top container to allow for stirring the solution.
