Product Questions

Once mixed is there a shelf life, or best if used by date on the calcium, alk, and mag supplements?
Question by: Joe on Apr 13, 2016 10:39:00 AM
Great question!
There is no shelf life as long as they are stored with lids and the water does not evaporate. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Apr 13, 2016 3:26:00 PM
Hello, I did not see in my instructions how to mix 2-part calcium mix, so I mixed a gallon of calcium chloride (2.5 cups + water).

On the Reef Calculator for calcium, I only see 2 part solution, dry calcium, and alternative 2 part. I don't see an option for basic calcium chloride solution. Should I use the 2-part solution and use half for just calcium?
Question by: Barney on Jan 27, 2016 10:20:00 PM
Great question!
On the reef calculator you will use the 2 part calcium solution option. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Feb 4, 2016 3:40:00 PM
Would it be more accurate to measure by weight? If so, how many grams of each component of the 2-part would I need? Thanks
Question by: Luis Rosa on Apr 1, 2016 9:44:00 AM
Great question!
Ideally the measurement will be in dry cup opposed to weight, often humidity will effect the weight of the crystal and cause a difference. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

I need some clarification on which option to choose when using the bulk reef supply calculator for calcium. On both the container that I have and also the directions posted on your website, it says that I should be choosing recipe 1 calcium solution in order to get the correct dosage. When I go to use the calculator the drop down menu displays three options: 2 part calcium solution, dry calcium chloride crystals, and alternative 2 part calcium solution for lower pH. Which one is the correct option for use of this product???
Question by: Alex on Jul 3, 2014 1:34:00 PM
Hi Alex,
Have you mixed the calcium up into a solution per the instructions on the bottle? If so, you would use the "recipe 1 calcium solution" option. If you have not mixed the calcium into a solution then you would select the option for dry calcium chloride crystals.
Answer by: Bulk Reef Supply on Jul 3, 2014 1:34:00 PM
The suggested dosage for a fully saturated stock solution seems to 2.5 cups CaCl/gallon of RO/DI water, but what is the ppm of said solution once mixed?
Question by: Scott Warner on May 9, 2014 12:03:00 PM
Hi Scott,
The resulting solution comes out at about 37,000ppm.

Easy to mix without yellow residue of some other brand's bulk supplement
  • No Nonsense, Quality Calcium Supplement By Patrick on 4/23/2016

This stuff is great. Quality, pure calcium supplement with free shipping? Done deal. I'm set on calcium dosing for a long, long time.

NOTE: The sizing of these products can be a bit confusing (or at least it was to me), so let me clarify. The directions say to mix one cup of crystals (8 fl. oz) to one gallon of water. The "gallon" product above does NOT make only one gallon of solution. It is called the "gallon" because it contains 128oz of crystals. That works out to be 16 cups of crystals. Translation: the "gallon" product will actually make around 16 gallons of solution. Hope that helps!

never trusted Dow flakes, or drive way melt, this is a good deal.
  • Works as advertised By S S56 on 3/1/2016

I have come to find out that my calcium among other things was low in my instant ocean salt. I couldn't understand why the tank had low calcium until I tested my "fresh" saltwater. Now dosing with this and maintaining with BRS kalk my numbers are great and consistent.
  • 1st time user By Maxxingout on 2/19/2016

My calcium has started to drop due to the 11 sps pcs I've got in my tank. Decided to give the BRS Calcium Chloride a try. I ended up using the BRS calculator and was pretty close to what I needed. The CC dissolves very easily and worked out great for me. Would def buy this again.
