How much carbon should I use? What's the carbon to gallon ratio for this carbon? Planning on putting it my my BRS dual reactor. Thanks!!
Question by: Robert on Feb 28, 2014 5:15:00 PM
Hey Robert,
With the ROX carbon it comes out to 1 tablespoon per 10g of water. Or if you want to do the math the easy way, use the reef calculator found at this link:

How long will the media brs GFO high capacity & Premium POX 0.8 carbon be changed?
Question by: wing on Jan 20, 2014 9:17:00 AM
Its best to change carbon every two weeks. GFO on the other hand will vary depending on the amount of phosphates in the water. No need to change it until its depleted. Typically this is 4-6 weeks assuming normal dosages and normal phosphate levels but the best thing to do is monitor your phosphates for an increase, and change the GFO when the phosphates begin to rise.

Which reactor do you recommend for the ROX 0.8 carbon? Do you have one that will compress it and keep it between filter pads where it can't escape to the tank?

Thanks,
David
Question by: David on Apr 4, 2014 6:01:00 PM
Hey David,
The standard BRS reactor I think is the best for the ROX carbon. Its filter pads are fine enough that the carbon stays inside of them. There are a lot of great reactors out there, but with most of the other ones you will need to custom cut some filter floss material to keep the carbon from going through the sponges as its quite small.

What kind of carbon is recommended to run in a reactor
Question by: Rick on Oct 28, 2013 11:56:00 AM
Hey Rick,
It really depends on the reactor. The ROX carbon is the best carbon we sell, but because of its small particle size its well suited to reactors whose sponges have large holes in them. For those types of reactors the lignite carbon will be the best bet as its still performs better then most carbons while being a larger particle size.

Full Details

ROX 0.8 is a specialty carbon extruded into tiny, extremely hard pellets resulting in less dust and reducing the amount of fines released into the water. It features high numbers of large and small pores giving it all the advantages of both lignite and bituminous carbons. ROX 0.8 will make your water crystal clear faster with less material.

BRS purchases our carbon directly from the manufacturer so we can offer the best carbon at reasonable prices. While most companies claim their carbon is the best, our statement is backed with true science and real numbers. Carbon is not created equal. Different sizes, shapes, and materials will perform with drastically varying results.

Recommended Dosage: 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons, or use our Reef Calculator for hassle-free dosage recommendations.

  • Great Water Clarifier By UrbanReef on 7/30/2015

Have been dosing to my 600 gallon system for 3 months now and my water is always crystal clear which makes my lights job easier; clear water positively impacts all my system
  • Best carbon By Michael on 7/29/2015

Best carbon I have used. Particle size is small, I used a bag inside my reactor because I didn't like the carbon getting into the foam pads.
Very tiny amount of fines when I rinsed compared to every other brand I've used. It definitely works far better and out performs others I have used.
Worth the extra cost as it last longer and works better.
  • WOW! By Ed on 7/25/2015

This carbon just performs so much better than everything i've ever used. It is also very fast working! Love it!
  • best ever By zsuzsu21 on 7/23/2015

i've used em all, no comparison
  • Awesome! By Marty on 7/11/2015

By far the best carbon I have ever used! You get what you pay for.
  • Use in 3 different aquariums By Jerry on 7/9/2015

I use this in my 200, 55 and 6 gal Pico. The first two are in BRS reactors and the last in a nylon stocking located it in the hang on filter. This is a nice finishing touch toward the goal of clear water.
  • It lives up to the hype By Shawn on 7/4/2015

I did the white bucket challenge & this stuff is as advertised. Amazing product. A bit pricey but worth the extra pennies.
  • Great product! By MrsWoz on 7/2/2015

I just put this in my reactor a few days ago, but it seems to be working well! The video was very helpful, too :)
  • BRS Bulk Premium ROX 0.8 Aquarium Carbon i WILL NEVER USE ANYTHING ELSE By wind&reef on 6/27/2015

After watching. A video from BRS. about how to tell if your water is truly clear or not , I showed a friend the test a couple gallons of tank water in a WHITE. five gallon bucket .
It was easy too see his water had a yellow tinge to it . I have him a co tau at of BRS rox 0.8 carbon and a media bag that was ace in the custom caddy in the back of his tank ...a few days latter I stopped bye ....wow the water Was hi
Gin clear and passed the bucket test . stunning results and there are many more benefits , granted a carbon reactor is the best way but this process worked . love this stuff and it is all I will ever use on my tanks .
  • good stuff, but takes a while to settle By Charles on 6/27/2015

This is very high quality carbon. One of the best. My only complaint is that it takes longer to settle in my media reactor than many others. What I now do it to take the water I just removed from my tank during a water change and with a small pump, run that water for a few minutes through my media reactor. It gets all the fines out and the air too. If your water is dirty, you probably don't wan't to do this since it might have an impact on the carbon. My nitrates and nitrites are pretty much 0 so I have had no problem.
  • Happy customer By Mrod on 6/27/2015

Works great and has little dust. I run it passively in a high flow area with good results . I have now found my go to carbon!
  • Best carbon By discus dave on 6/12/2015

I filled my BRS single reactor with this product and installed it on my 125 gallon discus tank. The water was crystal clear overnight. Much smaller particle carbon than I have ever experienced before. This will become my "go to" media for the reactor.
