Works Great By Marta on 10/29/2014Marta would recommend this product to a friendAlmost no dust. It's simply the best carbon I've ever used. You definitely get what you pay for.
Excellent product, but not my first choice. By Charles on 10/27/2014Charles would recommend this product to a friendI used this product in my TLF reactor. It is an excellent carbon that does a much better than average job of keeping the water clean.
I suggest the white bucket test to check how well your carbon works.
I have only two reasons why this is not my first choice. The size and shape of the carbon particles.
I personally prefer the spherical beads of Sea Chem Matrix carbon. The beads are bigger and seem to have better hydrodynamic properties to me. This might be flow dependent or reactor dependent.. So please know that I would not generalize my anecdote to all tanks.
Both are excellent products, but I had trouble with this one going through filter pads. Neither one has much dust. I think that matrix carbon clumps a little less over time.
You can't go wrong with either product as long as you change it when your bucket test show yellow water.
The Best AC for your tank By Mohamed on 10/25/2014Mohamed would recommend this product to a friendI use the ROX 0.8 in my BRS dual media reactor and I can’t be happier, in the past I’ve used many different activated carbon for my tank and I only liked the ROX, because the small media size I can use more media within the same given space in the reactor and thus I can add more within the reactor. Additionally it clear for me that the media do actually last longer and absorbs more and as a result I have crystal clear water that is hard to distinguish between it and between the top-up water I use.
Excellent carbon By June2881 on 10/16/2014June2881 would recommend this product to a friendI use this carbon in a 2 little fishies reactor and couldn't be happier. Does an excellent job keeping water clean. Less is required and in my opinion goes a much longer way than other types of carbon. I've only ever used in a reactor but I'm sure using in a bag will be quite effective.
Works Great By Christopher on 10/14/2014Christopher would recommend this product to a friendBeen using this Carbon for about a year and it's great. Works very fast - takes that yellow hue out of the water in about a day. Never had any issues with powderizing in my reactor and getting into the water column. Awesome stuff and great for the price. Worth the little extra. Thanks for a great product guys.
super quality carbon period. By Ivan on 8/26/2014Ivan would recommend this product to a friendthis is a great high quality carbon it doesn't hold a candle to what i used to use in freshwater tanks years ago. do yourself a favor and watch the video, you will be sold. 4 stars because i believe the price could come down just a little.
Only carbon I use, works great and does its job By DOMINICK on 8/21/2014DOMINICK would recommend this product to a friendOnly carbon I use, works great and does its job
Lasts much longer By Brian on 8/16/2014Brian would recommend this product to a friendI know it is a bit more expensive, but you get much longer use out of this carbon.
Good, but annoying By Matt on 8/3/2014Matt would recommend this product to a friendSo, I've been using Seachem Matrix Carbon in my Aquamaxx reactor for a while with no issues. i saw a good deal on the Rox at BRS, and (after all of the good word of mouth I've heard) I decided to try it.
Well, I can say it works well, at least as well as the Seachem Matrix which is a little more expensive.
BUT, it's really painful to use. Rinsing isn't even really that necessary, there's very little dust. The annoying part is that it's very small, and goes right through two filter pads. I had to add a filter sock to the output of the reactor to catch it all (a good amount had made it into my tank by now).
TL;DR - Good carbon, just be ready for it to escape into your tank and add a filter sock to your carbon reactor.
Less is More By Felix on 8/1/2014Felix would recommend this product to a friendWent in with a friend to order a large supply. Really worth it as it takes a less quantity to produce crystal clear water than then bigger stuff. Since you use less, it justifies the price for a better product.
Dont make the same mistake as I did! By William on 7/26/2014William would recommend this product to a friendI decided to try a different Carbon from Amazon. You know cheaper a little bit more etc etc... Well now I am paying the price, my PO4 levels have raised and my SPS are browning. I quickly went back to the ROX and will never switch again. This Carbon works great and last a lot longer. If you're on the fence on which carbon to get from BRS, The ROX might be a little more but it all equals out in the long run. Awesome product!
Simply the best By Bert on 6/30/2014Bert would recommend this product to a friendAlmost no dust. It's simply the best carbon I've ever used. You definitely get what you pay for.

How much carbon should I use? What's the carbon to gallon ratio for this carbon? Planning on putting it my my BRS dual reactor. Thanks!!
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Robert,
With the ROX carbon it comes out to 1 tablespoon per 10g of water. Or if you want to do the math the easy way, use the reef calculator found at this link:

How long will the media brs GFO high capacity & Premium POX 0.8 carbon be changed?
Bulk Reef Supply Its best to change carbon every two weeks. GFO on the other hand will vary depending on the amount of phosphates in the water. No need to change it until its depleted. Typically this is 4-6 weeks assuming normal dosages and normal phosphate levels but the best thing to do is monitor your phosphates for an increase, and change the GFO when the phosphates begin to rise.

Which reactor do you recommend for the ROX 0.8 carbon? Do you have one that will compress it and keep it between filter pads where it can't escape to the tank?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey David,
The standard BRS reactor I think is the best for the ROX carbon. Its filter pads are fine enough that the carbon stays inside of them. There are a lot of great reactors out there, but with most of the other ones you will need to custom cut some filter floss material to keep the carbon from going through the sponges as its quite small.

What kind of carbon is recommended to run in a reactor
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Rick,
It really depends on the reactor. The ROX carbon is the best carbon we sell, but because of its small particle size its well suited to reactors whose sponges have large holes in them. For those types of reactors the lignite carbon will be the best bet as its still performs better then most carbons while being a larger particle size.
ROX 0.8 is a specialty carbon extruded into tiny, extremely hard pellets resulting in less dust and reducing the amount of fines released into the water. It features high numbers of large and small pores giving it all the advantages of both lignite and bituminous carbons. ROX 0.8 will make your water crystal clear faster with less material.
BRS purchases our carbon directly from the manufacturer so we can offer the best carbon at reasonable prices. While most companies claim their carbon is the best, our statement is backed with true science and real numbers. Carbon is not created equal. Different sizes, shapes, and materials will perform with drastically varying results.
