Solid construction and work great. By Kevin on 3/10/14Kevin would recommend this product to a friendI picked up 4 of these socks to add to the one felt and 2 or so mesh ones I picked up locally. The BRS socks are made with better materials and definitely are holding up better than the flimsier one I started with. I've pressure washed them and even repeatedly tossed them in the washer with bleach (then soaked them in Prime dechlorinator and gave them an RODI soak then air dried) with no issues. They always get nice and clean with minimal effort.
Excellent product By Doug on 3/9/14Doug would recommend this product to a friendThese socks are high quality and they work great!

Great Filter Socks By Chris on 2/17/14Chris would recommend this product to a friendI am very pleased with the quality and material of these socks. They feel much more durable than the standard sock that came with my sump. My original sock feels much softer like an article of clothing but is already breaking down after numerous trips in the washing machine. These socks feel like they are made out of more of a polyester fiber than a felt one and look like they will hold up much better for much longer.
They work like a charm. By Michael on 2/15/14Michael would recommend this product to a friendBest way I've found to clean them:
Spray inside and outside thoroughly in the sink with hot water.
Soak in 1 gallon of RODI water with a tsp of BRS Soda Ash (I agitate with a small power head) for 24 hours. Soda ash is essentially detergent, so it works wonders and is obviously reef safe.
Soak in 1 gallon of RODI water with a cup of vinegar for 24 hours.
Finally, soak in pure RODI for 24hrs. This might be overkill, but they come out brilliant white with no smell. I use two socks at a time, so I bought four socks. Two are in the tank while two are being cleaned, and I switch them out during the weekly 15% water change. Pretty simple schedule.
Great sock and super easy to clean By RT on 2/7/14RT would recommend this product to a friendWell all socks capture junk, what I like about the 8" sock is that it's easy to turn inside out and clean. The smaller size means it will need to be swapped with a clean one more frequently. So get 8 to 10 so you only have to wash them once per month.
Some of the best made socks on the market By Redfish on 2/5/14Redfish would recommend this product to a friendI have several of these in diffrent sizes. These are made/built better than many others. Which in turn means they hold up longer.
ez change out By jimbo on 1/29/14jimbo would recommend this product to a friendTraps alot of particles fast change out.Nice when dirty just throw them in the washing machine and they come out real clean.
Best man By Gilberto on 1/26/14Gilberto would recommend this product to a friendI am very happy with all the stuff that catch from my skimmer return and is easy to clean
Catch lots of dirt By Trevor on 1/15/14Trevor would recommend this product to a friendGreat product
First time user By Renee on 1/14/14Renee would recommend this product to a friendI really like it. I bought the smaller one but think the larger one will be easier to turn inside out for cleaning. So I am going to get at least 3 more for now for swapping out and washing. My tank looks crystal clear now. And this heavy duty material catches so much junk:)

How often do you normally recommend you change the filter socks? what is the best method to clean the socks? if soaking - in what solution?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Don,
The more often you change them the better, that way you can remove the solids before they continue to break down and add additional nutrients to your water column. You want to avoid soaps when cleaning them but its pretty common for people to use unscented household bleach in water. Be sure to rinse them and all them to dry completely.

What is the micron rating for these socks? Thanks
Bulk Reef Supply Hey David,
Good question. All of our filter socks are 200 micron filter socks!
Filter socks come in mesh or felt and with a plastic ring or draw string. See below for differences and unique advantages.
- Mesh: Thin, doesn't clog as easily as felt
- Felt: Thicker, better at removing particles, but can clog faster
- Plastic Ring: attaches via ring that fits common sump holders
- Draw String: attaches directly to plumbing
- BRS recommends starting with felt socks and switching to mesh if they clog faster than desired.
Filter sock benefits:
- Regular use will result in crystal clear water most convenient form of mechanical filtration.
- Remove excess food, detritus, organic waste, dust and other particulates
- Convenient form of mechanical filtration
- Prevents larger objects like sand, crabs and snails from damaging pump motors
- Reduces ammonia and nitrate producing organic waste
- Increases filter life
