Im looking to upgrade my dual reactors version for my 180g mixed reef due to more bioload now, will this deluxe size here work for running GFO (regular media) and Carbon (Rox type) separately? According to the reef calculation chart or should I go with the Jumbo version? Also is the fitting hose the same size as the dual version hose? Thanks

    Bulk Reef Supply Hi Hai,
You would want the jumbo as the deluxe would not be large enough for running the GFO as it would require more then the 2 cup capacity of the reactor for GFO. ROX carbon would be fine in the deluxe though though. The hose on all of the BRS reactors is the same 1/2" hose.

i need to replace my tubing on my BRS reactor. Do you sell the tubing? What type do I buy if you don't sell tubing?
Where can I get that type of tubing?

    Bulk Reef Supply Hey Chris,
Its just 1/2" RO tubing and we do sell it right here:

What is the difference between the Single & the Deluxe?

    Bulk Reef Supply Hi Jack,
The deluxe is a bit more heavy duty as the bracket of the reactor is one piece with the top of the canister rather then being screwed on. The deluxe also comes with some additional elbows for routing your tubing.

Will this reactor work with biopellets?

    Bulk Reef Supply Hi Abtin,
The reactor itself is compatible if you remove the foam sponges from the cartridge, though keep in mind that bio-pellets usually require a larger pump then the mj1200 and this reactor doesn't include fittings for connecting to a larger pump like a danner mag drive (though they can still be purchased separately).

If you were going to run carbon and the high capacity gfo at the same time howmuch of each would you use? And how long would it last? I really dont have any issues right now but want to avoid any algea issues. With tank and sump I am running about 135 gallons. Thanks

    Bulk Reef Supply Hey Mark,
On a 135g tank you would 1 cup of the high capacity GFO. For carbon it would depend on the type of carbon, but assuming lignite it would be 1.25 cups. If your thinking of a different type of carbon you can use the handy reef calculator to do the math for you. It can be found right here:

  • by gillian on October 24, 2013, @9:44 AM

I have a 100 gallon corral tank that seem to be doing well. However, i constantly have to deal with accumulation of green algae. My nitrate, calcium, salinity and phrospate all seem to be good. What is my best action.

    Thank you in advance
    gillian

    Bulk Reef Supply Hey Gillian,
Phosphate and nitrate can be a bit difficult to get a handle on because your test kit only measures the amount of it currently in the water sample your testing. If it is being consumed by the algae, its not present in the water and can give a false sense of security in low readings. The first thing I would suggest is running GFO to remove phosphates while removing the algae in the tank, along with other good maintenance, water changes, etc. As you remove the algae from the tank it won't be able to consume phosphates as there added, which should then be removed by the GFO and not available for the algae to grow.

Can you run both gfo and carbon at the same time?

    Bulk Reef Supply Hey Kwame,
The reactor has a limited capacity (about 2 cups) so it will only work on smaller tanks, but you can run both GFO and carbon at the same time.

Can this be hung on the aquarium? Like the the phosban reactor?

    Bulk Reef Supply Hey Larie,
Great question. Unfortunately the BRS reactor does not hang on the tank. It must be mounted to a stand/wall, etc or set in the sump. If you need something that hangs on the back of the tank, the phosban reactor will usually be your best bet!

  • Great unit. By Garbear on 4/13/2015

Everything in the kit, is all you need to set this up, but you do need to supply your own screws for mounting the unit on the wall/cabinet. It also would have been helpful for some additional info on how much carbon to add in unit, but the video is very helpful in answering a lot of the questions I had.
  • Works Great By Glenn on 4/13/2015

I have purchased two of these now. One for GFO and one for GAC, both work great and is easy to service.
  • Great product By GARY on 4/13/2015

Real easy to use,and service . Holds a lot of media.
  • Good By John on 4/11/2015

Just ordered a second unit to run carbon -- first one works well with BRS HC GFO. I don't use the included sponges, though: they clog way too easily, and it takes a big pump to overcome the back pressure. I Tee'd the reactor off the MJ900 that feeds my skimmer and have plenty of flow to fluidize GFO. One minor issue that isn't really a big problem: the reactor takes on air somehow...I think the air release button is actually letting air in.
  • Well built but cumbersome to maintain By Andy on 3/16/2015

I have this installed in my 75 gal. reef tank's sump. Installation was not easy and had to call support line, which was helpful. Hoses are almost impossible to disconnect once attached. The thread design makes it cumbersome to replace the media and the included wrench is not helpful if you have this in the sump. Why not an user friendly hinge lid? Finally, I did not see any improvement in my fish or corals since I have this working with a mixture of carbon and GFO.
  • Good Product By JamesReef on 3/16/2015

Very nice package - only thing I could complain about is the amount of hose that comes in the kit, too short to use. If you buy this make sure to buy extra hose to install.
  • Exactly what I needed By Simiakos on 3/15/2015

My first reactor. Seems to be working fine and it was incredibly easy to install. Everything was included and was simple even for a novice like myself.
  • Sleek Design By TAMUKProdigy on 3/11/2015

I appreciate the sleek design. The model is efficient, well made and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Great reactor stiff hoses By RP709 on 3/10/2015

This is a great reactor, simple set up and reliable operation, why in the world BRS would think 2 sections of 3' hose would be enough for any install confuses me. The 'deluxe' version comes with the same short inflexible hose as all other versions. If its deluxe the hose should be to, anyway I ordered 10' of extra hose knowing 3' wouldn't even make it to the sump, and while it was long enough it is the same rigid style that comes with the reactor. I would think BRS would have something a bit more flexible for installs, this stuff will not make turns, thankfully BRS includes extra 90's because you will need them to make a tight turn. All in all while I do complain about the hose selections and lack of other options on site, the reactor is really good. It functions perfectly, is easy to get the flow set right for GFO, and has not let me down yet. The pressure valve makes media changes easier and the canister is of excellent quality. The push lock connectors are leak free, and the swivel ports help with the stiff hose.
  • BRS GFO & Carbon Reactor – Deluxe with MJ1200 Pump By Tim on 3/7/2015

I installed this unit today. Installation was easy.
  • Terrific Product By MarkO on 2/28/2015

Well built. Easy to change out media. Use for GFO.
  • Complete kit By Tony on 2/26/2015

I purchased the deluxe reactor to use on my 75 gallon reef. Very well built and everything I needed was included. I use it with a mix of GFO and carbon. Did not mind the stiffer tubing as it stays in place better for my application.
