Good Reactor, beware of pump By Bryan on 3/7/14Bryan would recommend this product to a friendThe reactor does what it should. The MJ1200 pump however went out in three months. My advice is to get the reactor, buy your own pump.
Good, but not perfect... By Michael on 3/2/14Michael would recommend this product to a friendSo, these things are pretty awesome. I have to admit that I haven't used any of the other skimmer models (other than the aqua-gadget for the Nani Nuvo 16), but this thing is inexpensive and easy to use. It is a little cumbersome if you don't trim any excess to your hoses, and even then you might want to buy some elbow fittings to make it easier to place the pump and return where you want. No biggie, though. The reason it gets three stars is because with every one of these that I own, only half of the cartridge gets flow. When I tumble GFO I can only get stuff on one side moving. This makes me wonder if I'm not utilizing all the GFO I'm using, and that's a big waste of money...and extremely irritating. This is something that BRS should address, either by letting us know that it's no by deal and the flow seems greater on the intake side, or lets us know it's not supposed to do that so I know o get a replacement cartridge.
Great product! By barby on 2/24/14barby would recommend this product to a friendProduct is very easy to install and I recommend it as it has eliminated 95% of the algae problem I had in my tanks. I have recently purchased #2 more. Thank you!!!
Built to last By Bryan on 2/3/14Bryan would recommend this product to a friendVery easy to install the single reactor using my own pump. Comes with valve (which you will need) and all plumbing which makes a hassle free install.
great By kevin on 1/20/14kevin would recommend this product to a friendthis is a great reactor i use it for my gfo simple to setup and use
Cheap price, cheap product By Dan on 1/19/14Dan wouldn't recommend this product to a friendBought 2 of these pumps and reactors to run GFO in 2 of my 4 tanks. As of start up both pumps were working fine. Within 24 hours one of the pumps already crapped out. I had to go to my LFS and I grabbed a marine land pump which is working great. The 2nd pump yes is still working, but its loud and vibrates. I've tried a few different location installs in my sump but its still noticeably loud. And I mean noticeable. The reactor is great though. Price is great on the reactors. They are sturdy and easy to mount. I love BRS but please get rid of these garbage pumps. I'd rather spend a little more money for a quality pump that doesn't break within a day or vibrate my whole tank sump and stand
Awesome reactor kit By Vince on 1/14/14Vince would recommend this product to a friendI bought this single reactor kit for my 29 Biocube. I had some issues opening up the media canister but after a quick call to customer service I was told to pry one of the tabs with a flat head screw driver and it popped it right off!
Another consideration is the amount of tubing included is perfect if you are mounting this in a sump, if you do not have a sump I recommend getting extra tubing to reach your tank, I ended up getting around 12 feet to run the reactor in my BC29 stand make sure you get the MUR-LOK brand tubing from this site or you WILL get leaks! Do not try to use large airline tubing it WILL leak, I also recommend the black colored tubing for added looks.
I suggest a the Cobalt MJ1200 pump filters
Good quality, but wasn't what I was looking for... By Nathan on 1/14/14Nathan would recommend this product to a friendI was hoping this reactor would be more flexible and able to move around easier. Unfortunately, the hoses are super stiff and the quick connect system doesn't allow for easily swapping out standard hoses with more flexible hoses.
The build quality is great though!
No Complaints By Dustin on 1/10/14Dustin would recommend this product to a friendBetter than the competition! No leaks, easy to put together. Solid construction. I have no complaints at all. I would order again and recommend to anyone.
real nice reactor By Theodore on 1/6/14Theodore would recommend this product to a friendEasy to set up and easy to refill. Along with high capacity gfo it took my phosphates from .5 to undetectable with salifert test kit.
Works great for the price By Stephen on 1/1/14Stephen would recommend this product to a friendI added one of these running GFO to my aquarium about a year ago when I couldn't get rid of my hair algae. I installed it running off of a manifold from my main pump. The next day almost all of the hair algae was gone! Amazing!
I run this reactor all the time and love it. The only draw back is that the flow doesn't stay consistent enough to keep the media bubbling properly at the top. Every day I boost it just a bit to get rid of any channeling and settle it back down to a good flow. Next morning, the GFO isn't moving at all.
For the price and for what it does I don't really mind the thirty seconds it take me to reset it. Some days I forget, some days I don't. Either way it has kept my algae away and for that I love it.
A must have for a saltwater tank By butterflyx8i8x on 12/30/13butterflyx8i8x would recommend this product to a friendI love this product!!! I was having trouble with lots of algae in the tank. It's been up for a week now and I'm dealing with less algae in my tank. Works really good.

Does the MJ1200 come with some kind of per filter so I'm not sucking up gunk in my pump?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Robbie,
The pump does not come with them in the box but they are available (and suggested). I have included a link below:

how much total combined media will single reactor hold carbon & gfo together...
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Eric,
The max capacity for the reactor would be a total of 3 cups of media if it doesn't need to tumble (like carbon/gfo mix). If you were actually maxing out the reactor though you might want to consider a larger pump then the standard mj1200.

When changing the filter media in th BRS media reactor, what are the steps that need to be taken? I was conserned about getting water everywhere when unscrewing the lid of the reactor to change out media. Thank you BRS!
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Landon,
Changing the media is actually really easy. You just want to make sure that the pump is off and then you unscrew the bottom canister. While you might spill a few drops if your careful almost all of the water will stay in the bottom canister and you can carry the canister media and water to the sink to drain it and replace the media. You can leave the main bracket mounted, the pump in the tank, etc.

Can this be run inline with the biopellet reactor? What kind of flow rates would be required?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Paul,
You would want to run it separately from a biopellet reactor. The two medias require different rates of flow and would have negative effects on each other :-)

Will this hang on the back of my DT? If not can you recommend a quality HOB model and pump?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Kevin,
The BRS reactor does not hang on the back. Units that hang on the back aren't as common, the phosban reactor is the model most folks will use in that situation. The same cobalt mj1200 is a great pump option for it as well.
