Reactors overall impressions By Justin on 10/13/2014Justin would recommend this product to a friendAt first I was a little concerned about using the push type fittings and their sealing abilities (just no previous experience) but they went together super easy. Make sure you push them in ALL the way. First section goes in easy, second half takes a little more pushing. Once up and running I could tell my water was a lot more clear. I also took my filstar canister out of my system now that I am using carbon & GFO how they were meant to be. A very cost effective way to rid your tank of dissolved solids and toxins.
Solid Reactor By Brett on 9/16/2014Brett would recommend this product to a friendJust got this a couple weeks ago so time will tell about durability but it feels solid. It's easy to work with and adjust for flow.
Really durable and complete. By Felix on 8/1/2014Felix would recommend this product to a friendI prefer to run 2 singles than a dual, that way i can shut one off at a time to change media. These are great quality and really impressed with small ball valve and tubing. I'm pretty ruff with these and they hold up great. Really complete out of the box to connect to plumbing of your choice.
simple no frills reactor that just plain works By Ricky on 7/16/2014Ricky would recommend this product to a friendI have three of these on my tanks and they are perfect for the job in the tank room. Less than 1/4 cost of other reactors I've used and a lot easier than some for maintenance. These will be used exclusively in our coral farm operation coming up this year.
Easy setup works great By MMM923 on 6/24/2014MMM923 would recommend this product to a friendWhen i decided to upgrade my refugium I figured why not add a carbon reactor. I mean after all who enjoys rinsing carbon filling a bag (as it drips across the floor) and hoping that you are getting it enough flow? Water was clear with this method but with the reactor it is MUCH more clear. The unit it sturdy, hoses could be a little longer but most people could get away with the 2 3ft lengths. I am happy with my purchase however I think about the times I have "cheaped" out in this hobby and it always bites me - for a few bucks more I could have had the dual... Oh well, the single and dual are priced cheap enough so unlike many other times I have "cheaped" out this time wont cost me as much. Im the past I could rinse nearly any brand of carbon and it always seemed to have "fines" in it. This reactor hooked to a maxi 1200 took less than 1 gallon of water to go from black to grey to clear (just like they show in the video). Great product BRS!
Awesome Reactor By Michael on 6/17/2014Michael would recommend this product to a friendRun a mix of GFO and activated carbon, will most likely upgrade to sister model of duel reactors once I get a bigger tank. Must have for all your water clarity needs!
Great Product By Dave on 5/31/2014Dave would recommend this product to a friendI'm incredibly happy with my reactor. It's versatile and extremely effective. I saw a major difference in my water quality by the next day. Easy to put together and easy to refill. I'm going to buy a couple more for my other tanks.
Like a tank By Taia on 5/21/2014Taia would recommend this product to a friendBRS keeps up the heavy duty theme! This really pleased me with how heavy it is, it feels like a drop to a tile floor wouldn't even faze it. The kit is well thought out, easy to assemble, and includes everything you'll need. I didn't buy the version with the pump, but I'm sure it would be just as sturdy. The quick connects make me wish they came in larger sizes so I could plumb my whole tank that way. Whatever you do, don't misplace the wrench! It's really hard to get the lid off with out it, that being said, it also doesn't leak a drop.
Heavy By Devon on 5/19/2014Devon would recommend this product to a friendThis is just a filter canister from the BRS RO units. The outer canister is very heavy.
The included tubing is not very flexible.
I would definitely recommend using a Cobalt MJ1200 with this filter. It is much less loud than a Mag Drive 3 and the flow is fine.
Loud maxijet but good reactor By Christopher on 5/12/2014Christopher would recommend this product to a friendThis was my first reactor I have ever used and my only complaint is the maxijet being loud every now and then. Every week or so I get a pretty decent vibrating noise out of it but other than that this thing works really well.
Nice Reactor, Great Results, Pump is a Bit Strong By Woodrow on 5/6/2014Woodrow would recommend this product to a friendRegarding effectiveness: I purchased the reactor to battle a sudden (but persistent) onslaught of algae. Within two weeks, I no longer had algae growing on the sand. As an extra bonus, several of my SPS and LPS started growing much more quickly as well. I've had the reactor running about a month or so, and the tank continues to improve. Great stuff!
Regarding the product quality: The reactor is built nicely, and the kit comes with everything you need to get set up. My one (minor) complaint is that the included pump seems way overpowered. I have to throttle the valve back to the almost closed position to keep the GFO from tumbling like crazy. With the valve closed that much, I have some concern about the pump's longevity. That is, however, a minor concern.
Great! By Shawna on 5/1/2014Shawna would recommend this product to a friendThis reactor is easy to set up and use, water is as clear as can be. Thanks BRS for another great product.

Does the MJ1200 come with some kind of per filter so I'm not sucking up gunk in my pump?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Robbie,
The pump does not come with them in the box but they are available (and suggested). I have included a link below:

When changing the filter media in th BRS media reactor, what are the steps that need to be taken? I was conserned about getting water everywhere when unscrewing the lid of the reactor to change out media. Thank you BRS!
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Landon,
Changing the media is actually really easy. You just want to make sure that the pump is off and then you unscrew the bottom canister. While you might spill a few drops if your careful almost all of the water will stay in the bottom canister and you can carry the canister media and water to the sink to drain it and replace the media. You can leave the main bracket mounted, the pump in the tank, etc.
by eric on September 12, 2013, @10:26 AM
how much total combined media will single reactor hold carbon & gfo together...
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Eric,
The max capacity for the reactor would be a total of 3 cups of media if it doesn't need to tumble (like carbon/gfo mix). If you were actually maxing out the reactor though you might want to consider a larger pump then the standard mj1200.
by Daniel on November 7, 2013, @5:31 AM
Is this the same as the one for use with bio pellets? Just with foam pads, or is the cartridge different?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Daniel,
The biopellet reactor doesn't have foam pads and it also includes fittings for a larger pump (bigger pump is needed for biopellets) wheras the gfo/carbon reactor only comes with an adapter for the cobalt pumps.
by Paul on October 8, 2013, @2:04 PM
Can this be run inline with the biopellet reactor? What kind of flow rates would be required?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Paul,
You would want to run it separately from a biopellet reactor. The two medias require different rates of flow and would have negative effects on each other :-)
by Xing on January 26, 2014, @1:54 AM
What is the difference between this one and the brs biopellet reactor? Can I use this one to run biopelletes?
Bulk Reef Supply The biopellet reactor doesn't have sponges and comes with fittings to adapt to larger size pumps (which are generally necessary with biopellet reactors). This reactor will physically hold them but wouldn't come with the fittings for larger size pumps.
by Kevin on September 9, 2013, @1:37 PM
Will this hang on the back of my DT? If not can you recommend a quality HOB model and pump?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Kevin,
The BRS reactor does not hang on the back. Units that hang on the back aren't as common, the phosban reactor is the model most folks will use in that situation. The same cobalt mj1200 is a great pump option for it as well.
by Steven on January 24, 2014, @3:13 PM
Do you sell replacement foam pieces to hold the media in place? Mine have lost their spring.
