Product Questions

When making salt water should it always be made at hand if i have a contaner or salt water should just be made with in the few hours of mixing it???
Question by: rocky on Mar 14, 2014 3:51:00 PM
Hi Rocky,
Its easy to have it mixed and ready to go, but there isn't any chance you can mix it as you need it with most salts. The Red Sea Coral Pro in particular actually recommends that you use it within a few hours of mixing it. Letting it sit won't hurt it, but it will get a little cloudy the longer it sits.
Answer by: Bulk Reef Supply on Mar 14, 2014 3:51:00 PM
I am new to marine tanks can I use this salt for cycling and then I will add fishes and on down the line I will add a couple of corals. is this one better or Reef crystals salt?
Question by: Ronn on Sep 21, 2013 10:36:00 PM
Hey Ronn,
If your just starting a new tank and you don't currently have any corals, then I would suggest using the regular Red Sea Salt. The coral pro salt has elevated levels of calcium and alkalinity that wouldn't be of use without corals in your tank.

Full Details

Unlike the natural reef environment, which has an immeasurable reservoir of all 57 elements, a reef aquarium is an artificial environment that is constantly affected by coral growth and other ongoing biological processes. Red Sea Coral Pro Salt Mix is the result of years of research. Formulated for use with RO water, the unique Sodium Chloride harvested from the Red Sea Reef contains optimally balanced ratios between calcium, alkalinity and magnesium. Coral Pro Salt Mix contains elevated levels of these elements for accelerated coral growth.

Coral Pro Salt Mix is designed to provide the biologically balanced, elevated levels of the foundation elements (Calcium, Magnesium & Carbonates) necessary for sustainable, accelerated growth and enhanced vitality of all corals. Coral Pro salt mix is ideal for reef aquariums, in particular for LPS and SPS corals and growing out coral frags. Main parameters at a salinity of 33.0 ppt are: KH - 11.8-12.2 °dKH, Ca - 430 - 450 mg/l, Mg 1280 - 1340 mg/l.

  • won't ever use anything else By katy on 1/30/2016

I have a 7.5 gallon nano tank with lps and sps and this salt makes my life so easy. many small water changes a week with no protein skimmer and feeding of the tank on a schedule and everything looks amazing. It makes my life so easy considering the challenge of a nano tank and keeping parameters in check for the sps. I do not have do dose calcium or anything else when I keep up with water changes. Love this salt.
  • better but cost more By hondafishguy on 1/26/2016

i can only compare to reef crystals but it mixes much faster and does not leave a brown residue. it does cost much more but it is a better salt i gave it a 4 star only because of the cost. when i make salt water its 55 gallons at a time in a plastic drum, i feel like sometimes a have to add a little more salt sometimes over other times but from what i can tell it does keep the PH, alkalinity and calcium levels higher which is a good thing. i will keep using it even with it costing more! i love the fact i don't have to clean the brown crap out of mu mixing drum anymore
  • The Best By Robert on 12/21/2015

I've used this mix from initial setup 3 years ago, & continue to dose Kh, Ca, Mg to the parameters out of bucket, @a SG of 1.025. Can't speak to issues made here of mixing salts though.
All inhabitants thriving & mixing to clarity in just minutes (I always keep mixed water around "just in case")
Little pricey than synthetic, its a get what you pay for world
  • TERRIBLE - Killed 1/2 of my corals By Chris on 12/16/2015

this is salt that is on steroids. If you switch to this salt from another one, it will mess up your parameters and kill your corals. I lost 1/3 of my corals, SPS and LPS. I went back to my old salt and the tank returned to its normal self. Do not buy this salt.
  • Good Salt - mixes to high CA levels By Mike on 10/27/2015

Great salt and a favorite of mine and I have tried several brands. I like this Red Sea Coral Pro salt because it mixes quickly and clearly, doesn't clump and has a high level of Calcium. When I do a water change, everything perks up. Good product.
  • You Can Use It To Test Your Test Kit By Dave D on 10/16/2015

I tested it with my Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro test kit and the results (Ca, Mg, Alk) matched what they claimed.
  • Solid Product By Jeremy on 9/16/2015

We started using Coral Pro Salt when we installed a new 60 cube 4 months ago. I have to say this is a good product. I havent seen very much variation in the numbers between buckets. No nirate spikes due to it being a natural product.
  • Mixes fast and consistent By jmar on 8/25/2015

Great salt and mixes fast. It's always been consistent with the parameters. I try to keep an extra bucket on hand for emergencies.
  • The best salt By LBK Reefer on 8/23/2015

Buy the RS Coral Reef Pro instead of the other cheap salts. If you buy the cheap ones you will spend time and money adding calcium and other additives to get it up to this level of quality.
  • Great product, helps cora; growth By Brian on 8/2/2015

I tried this in my 6 month old 29g tank that had seen no appreciable coral growth since I had started the reef system. By the 2nd week there was a noticeable difference in many of the corals and my salinity was much more stable! I will be using this from now on.
  • Good switch By Fishpistol on 7/15/2015

I was using reef crystals and things were going well did a water change and things went really really bad. Not sure what it was maybe a bad batch or something but I switched to red sea salt. I have never had a problem since with water changes. It keeps all the levels stable and no real PH drop when I change the water. Really happy with how well it dissolves in the water.
  • good stuff By peter on 6/25/2015

almost no need to add more additives after water change. still need to add magnesium but better than most
