Quick Overview

The Hanna Alkalinity checker is an awesome little tool that will give you accurate easy to read results.  If you have bad eyes or have a hard time with titration test kits, the digital read out on the Hanna checkers is super nice and easy to read.  The biggest key with Hanna checkers is keeping the vials nice and clean for consistent results.  The Hanna Alkalinity Checker does give readings in Parts per Million, which can easily be converted to DKH or meq/L.

Three simple steps to results. The Hanna Alkalinity Checker bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Accurate, affordable and easy to use. First, zero the instrument with your water sample. Next, add the reagent. Last, place the vial into the Hanna Alkalinity Checker, press the button and read the results. Done.

Product Questions

Does this product come with the alkalinity reagent?
Question by: Alexander on Nov 26, 2013 3:12:00 PM
Hi Alexander,
Yes the checker comes with reagents for about 25 tests.
Answer by: Bulk Reef Supply on Nov 26, 2013 3:12:00 PM
I have started using this Alkalinity check and have noticed that the tests come back much lower than the Salfert test. I thought it was old reagents and purchased new ones I test 6.5 KH to salfert 11 dKH. I do the ppm match "ppm * .056 = dKH"
Still reads much lower than Salfert.

Even with the 5ppm error range in the Hanna. I can not make heads or tails on this.
Question by: mholzapfel on Jun 4, 2016 11:13:00 AM
Hey there,
I am sorry to hear about the differences in your test kit. We have had great luck with hanna in the past and certainly have used their products and standards regularly. At this point we recommend reaching out to hanna to ensure the checker is up to par and functioning correctly with the use of standards or other re-calibrating effects.

  • Pluses and Minuses By John on 5/16/2016

Pluses - Easy and fun to use, which means I'm testing more; it's accurate.

Minuses - You have to manually do the conversion to DKH or meq/L, which seems odd for an electronic device. The box is comes in is funky and not designed well. It's not as fast as some say, but still easier and faster than a Red Sea type tester. The instruction manual is simple to understand, but a little weak on information.
  • The best…..when it works By Mcmullen on 4/8/2016

So this is easily the best Alk checker when Hannah has their reagent working properly. Sometime in Novemeber 2015 (maybe sooner) they changed packaging so that when the liquid reagent encounters the bottle lid, it somehow deactivates the reagent. This was addressed, and supposedly fixed! Well, guess what? Still same problem!! I finally ordered a "Salifert" kit and my Alk level tested higher than the max level…..the max is 15.8! I kept dosing Alk based on my Hannah reading low levels. For those of you that do not know, anything higher than 12 is high for Alk, and my tank runs about 9. This is a sps killer. I do believe Hannah will fix the problem but how can you trust the product. I'll constantly be double checking!! I cannot recommend at this time!!!
  • Excellent and easy to read. By DAVID on 4/3/2016

I find this one easier than API or Red Sea to read. I just made a ALK Table with the reading and dkh. So all I have to do is look at my chart.
  • SUPER EASY TO USE! By TWang on 3/1/2016

This is very easy to use and is accurate. Kind of pricey but well worth it.
  • great product By Jason on 1/25/2016

    Super easy and always accurate.
  • No more guessing color. By Reefdoc on 1/16/2016

Works great! Takes the guess work out of alkalinity testing. This is my first hanna checker and now I'm going to be replacing my other testing slowly with Hanna checkers.
  • Easy and Precise By John on 1/16/2016

I had been using the Red Sea Foundations test kit, which I think are one of the better test kits, but this Hanna Checker is fantastic. It is very easy and I love the precise reading. I also bought the Calcium checker.
  • Easy to use just follow instructions By Jeff on 1/13/2016

I am trying to be a much better aquarium keeper starting this year 2016. Had my water tested and both alkalinity and PH were low. using a Reef Buffer 8.3 to raise the PH and Alkalinity and this meter help to know parameters so that you don't shock the fish as your trying. Much better then counting drops like the other testers.
  • Great product and easy to use By jsbull on 1/2/2016

You put tank water in the vial and push the button. Then add 1ml of regent, invert the vial a couple of times and push the button again. Can't be easier and it does give more exact results than the API style test kits.
  • Great By Eric on 12/27/2015

Its fairly quick and very accurate. Only downside is having to clean the glass bottles after using. But it makes up for it.
  • Perfect! By ducannn on 12/21/2015

Accurate, easy to use, affordable. What more can I say.
  • easy By tim on 12/20/2015

    very easy to use
