Great stuff, good price, but 500ml is a tiny bag By Anthony on 12/3/13Anthony would recommend this product to a friendI've been running the stuff for 9 months and have been very happy with the results. The last time I ordered I ordered the 1000ml and that's the small size shown in the picture, this last time I accidentally ordered the 500ml, thinking it was the small size I ordered before and was disappointed. My fault of course.
I really think the two small sizes should be listed in cups instead of ml since the calculator only shows the number of cups recommended.
Great so far By Russell on 11/30/13Russell would recommend this product to a friendI have been running these pellets in my DIY reactor for about 8 weeks now with great results. I havent noticed much of an uptick in my skimmate, but nitrates are down and algae is almost completely gone. I may have to step up feeding or supplement feed my crabs and snails soon.
GREAT FOR PO4 AND NO3 By Jhon on 11/27/13Jhon would recommend this product to a friendBeen using for about 2 years, on both my tanks resolved my hair algae and kept it away. This is my main source of nutrient export.
Good Product For Good Price By The Reef Spot on 11/23/13The Reef Spot would recommend this product to a friendJust started running the biopellets. Will be a month to see how effective they will be. But for the price, cant beat it!
Great Product with a catch By Anne on 10/17/13Anne would recommend this product to a friendI've been using BRS biopellets on my tank for a little over 6 months now, and have been getting great results for about 4 months. The first 2 months were spent fighting cyano outbreaks despite not having high nitrates or phosphates. I was doing 20% water changes every week and fed very lightly. After turning my UV off (it's inline after the biopellet reactor) the cyano went away within 2 weeks. I haven't run the UV since and have had wonderful results. Nutrients stay nice and low and the corals and fish are all flourishing.
So after a bumpy start (probably my fault for running the UV) the pellets are performing very well and doing exactly what they are described to do.
Great product at a good price By Mark on 9/17/13Mark would recommend this product to a friendGreat product at a good price. The only Bio Pellet brand I use.
good for first few weeks BUT By Jay on 8/29/13Jay wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis is the first BRS product I have to give negative feedback on. I'm a regular customer and always have great things to say about there products BUT these bio pellets are not cut out to be what described. I'm running 500 ml in a reef octopus br-110 with a model 2 pump. The pump is near new and very very strong. The problem is after the first few weeks they work great but as they begin to breakdown which they are meant to do they start to clump and and cause problems. Now if your reading this your initial response is to say that there isn't enough pressure and trust me that is not the case. I borrowed a second BR-110 reactor from a friend and used Ecobak pellets on one tank and the BRS with fresh pellets. This was an experiment I wanted to compare. Same pumps and all, after 4 months the ecobak pellets never clumped or had any issues and took the nitrates to 0 from 110-120. The second tank with the BRS pellets was clumping as usual and only took the nitrates to 80-90 from 100-110. This is just my comparison and opinion but if it comes to bio pellets ecobak worked the best. I still love BRS and will continue purchasing all my other necessities but the pellets are not their best product.
working like a charm By James on 8/25/13James would recommend this product to a friendI've had this setup on my tank for three weeks and now my nitrates are already starting come down. great price compared to other brands.
Seems fine By riet on 8/17/13riet would recommend this product to a friendI just started using them, but the product was delivered fast, and seems as advertised.
Great! By John on 6/28/13John would recommend this product to a friendWould definitely recommend BRS bio pellets, easy to use and nitrates are non existent.

Biopellet pimp my ride By Steve on 4/27/13Steve would recommend this product to a friendA short time ago I purchased the BRS dual Medea reactor for GFO,CARBON, BIO, whatever. I have read a lot about this stuff and I will be applying this system to my 16gal nano when I arrive at my next duty station in San Juan, PR. I know it sounds like I am installing a Chevrolet big block engine in a Mini Cooper, but why not give it a shot!

I've looked high and low for this answer but couldn't find it anywhere... I see it says don't touch for 8 weeks but when do you replace these? Also will I only replace part or all?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Jerry,
They are basically food and surface area for bacteria so you actually don't ever remove and replace them. You just add more as they get consumed. Once up and running thats usually once every couple of months.
We recommend 1 cup (236 ml) of BRS biopellets per 50 gallons of system volume. See Instructions.
Maintaining low nitrates is key to maintaining the best coral coloration, healthy fish and avoiding algae outbreaks. Fish foods and resulting waste eventually break down into nitrates. Aquarists’ primary method of dealing with nitrate removal is water changes but over the years we have developed a few ways to remove nitrates with equipment like refugiums, sulfur reactors and deep sandbeds. All of these methods work to various degrees but are often less efficient than we would like or the level of complexity, expense and maintenance is beyond what the average reefer would desire
Solid carbon dosing (biopellets) has recently become an extremely popular method of removing nitrates from the aquarium. The exact method of denitration can be different for each tank but it mainly consists of a few things:
- Nitrate laden Bacteria is removed via the protein skimmer
- Bacteria directly converts nitrite into nitrous oxide so nitrate is never produced
- Bacteria consumes nitrates and processes them down into nitrogen gas
- Nitrate laden Bacteria is consumed by tank inhabitants like corals and sponges
Depending on the system it should take 4-8 weeks for the bacteria population to multiply and begin its work on your nitrates. Once you have the reactor going we suggest not making any adjustments for 8 weeks. Give the media and bacteria time to adjust to the parameters found in your tank and begin working. The absolute best advice we can give with this system is to set it up and forget about it for two months. Unless something is obviously not right resist all temptation to make any changes until the two months are up.
