good value By George on 12/15/2014George would recommend this product to a friendDecided to get the 500w without the controller because I was going to hook it up to an apex systems and it works great.
Don't waste your money By Eddie on 12/5/2014Eddie wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI bought the 500 watt model and within a month I started feeling stray voltage in my tank. Based on the reviews at the time, I assumed I had a lemon. I tossed it and replaced it with the 300 watt model. Same thing happened with that one also. The unit comes very nicely packaged and appears to be of decent quality, but after minimal use the lack of quality is quite apparent. I had a Won Bros Pro Heat Titanium heater last me over 7 years, but they also appear to have dropped in quality. I gave the Cobalt Neo-Therm a shot as well. The 150 watt model works great, but the 200 watt model has quality issues with stray voltage and/or blowing up. It looks like I'll be sticking with the Eheim JAGER TruTemp. If you value your life and your livestock, I recommend you do as well.
Great Product By PotteryMan on 11/18/2014PotteryMan would recommend this product to a friendI purchased the 500 watt heater and run it using a controller. Works great.
First Titanium Heater By Lee on 11/15/2014Lee would recommend this product to a friendThis was my first titanium heater I ever purchased (800watt). I love the idea of not worrying about it breaking/cracking. I hooked it up to a ranco controller that came with a setup I purchased and it is maintaining accurate temperature. No complaints. Very happy.
great By dominick on 11/13/2014dominick would recommend this product to a friendI have the finnex 800 watt and it keeps my 265 gallons of water at a steady 80 degrees im using reefkeeper to control it best heater iv purchased!no more glass for me lol.
Just Installed By Tom on 11/8/2014Tom would recommend this product to a friendI live in Wisconsin and my current 150 Watt wasn't doing the job. I wanted something small to fit in my sump Refugium. This was the smallest I could find. The 300 watt has no problem heating my tank. I use the Apex to control it.
Not so great By Robert on 10/19/2014Robert wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI liked the idea of this heater. I could control it with my reefkeeper and liked the idea that it wasn't glass, felt like it was safer. I was upgrading my tank to a larger tank and started unplugging things one at a time. I removed my grounding probe and my next reach into the tank came with a shock. I removed each piece of equipment one at a time to find out what it was and narrowed it down to my 500w Finnex Deluxe Heater. I contact Finnex as it was their warranty issue, not BRS's and they asked if the cord was damaged, it was not. They told me "it is grounded, that's why the cord has three prongs"....really? Even if the ground helps alleviate the problem, that is still stray voltage, I don't care how you look at it. Their solution was to offer me a discount on another heater so that I can shock myself again in a few months.
AWESOME By Jeremy on 10/13/2014Jeremy would recommend this product to a friendI love this heater, its smaller then other heaters ive used and is way quicker to heat up. Hooked it up to my controller and it performs so well I'll never look back.
Packaging was funny as it was mis-spelt "Unbeakable" but that just means they focus on their product and not the box.
First Impressions By Ben on 10/4/2014Ben would recommend this product to a friendI bought the 800w heater for a 180g frag system I am building. Now I haven't had a chance to even plug this thing in yet, but wow. This heater is a work of art. It is heavy, obviously quality construction, and it just looks impressive. I'll follow up after a few months of use.
Love these heaters! By Reefgeek on 9/16/2014Reefgeek would recommend this product to a friendBeen using titanium heating tubes for as long as i can remember reefing. Have never had a problem, just make sure to hook it up to a reliable controller (cough cough..Apex). I have two 500W on my 300G and could not be happier.
This heater works get but fails after 4 months By Robert on 8/12/2014Robert wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI purchased the 500w heater and after 4 1/2 months it started to shock me when I put my hand in the tank I got ahold of finnex and they told be if the damage was due to water I would have to pay for the repair and the shipping back to me. on top of paying to ship it to them . I thought Heaters were to go in water. will never buy again
Bought two. Both SHOCKED me right from the box. By John on 7/20/2014John wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI bought two of these for my 220 gal reef build.
upon putting them in my sump and plugging them in. BOTH leaked current badly. Putting my hand in the water to move them in the sump and I could feel the current in the water. touching each one gave me a very nice shock.
Total chinese junk. If this is how bad their quality control is, they dont need to be selling merchandise to the public.

I'm considering purchasing one of the Neptune Apex controllers (the $529 or the $549 version) and wondered about heater options. I see that the units include a temp probe, but I assume that doesn't regulate temp (other than communicating with a heater to turn it on or off) of the aquarium, it just measures the temp. Is that correct? If so, I was thinking of pairing it with a heater (800W finnex titanium heater (the one with out the thermostat)). Would I need to purchase the thermostat separate from this to plug into the Apex controller, or would the controller have some sort of built in interface to turn the heater tube on and off? At the end of the day, I just need to know what I would need to purchase to replace an old school stand along heater that I have now in my 180 gal reef tank. Thanks,
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Nathan,
The temperature probe itself only reads the temp, but you can use that information to act on an outlet. For example you could tell outlet number 1 to turn on if the temperature is below 78 degrees and off if it is over. This would allow it to control a heater.
In the interest of redundancy though, I would use a heater with a thermostat and then plug that heater/thermostat combo into an outlet on the apex. You can use the apex to turn that outlet off and cut power to both in the even the built in heater thermostat fails. Generally in this situation you would set the heater to say, 78 degrees, and tell the Apex to kill the power at 79 degrees. This way the built in controller does all the work, the apex is just a safety cut off.
As you said, this particular heater doesn't have a thermostat and while you could use the Apex to control it, it would be best to have another form of redundancy (like a heater with a built in temp control).

Since this heater requires a separate controller would it be a good option to use with an apex controller?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey James,
It would be a great option for use with an Apex or other aquarium controller, in fact its what I use with mine!

Can the Finnex Deluxe heating tube be controlled with the Digital Aquatics Reefkeeper Titanium plus
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Richard,
That wouldn't be a problem at all. Just plug the heater into one of the ReefKeeper outlets and then program that outlet to turn on and off based on the temperature.
by Steven on June 26, 2014, @6:19 AM
Do you still need their controller with Finnex Titanium TH-800 tubes if you have an Apex. I do have their tubes but no controller.
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Steven,
You can plug the heating tube into an outlet on the Apex and control it via the Apex & temperature probe if you like.
by Tyler on July 31, 2014, @5:16 AM
Hi, I am wondering if the reefkeeper lite would work to control this heater?
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Tyler,
That wouldn't be any issue at all. Just plug the heater into one of the outlets and you can use the Temperature probe on the RK system to turn that outlet on and off to heat the water as needed.
