Disappointing By TankLady on 2/13/14TankLady wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI used one float switch at a time, each failed after a couple of months. Additionally the unit itself freezes occasionally. Needing to be unplugged and plugged back in to make it work.
Not worth the money By jerry on 2/9/14jerry wouldn't recommend this product to a friendhave to keep resetting can never keep proper water level in my sump
Excellent!! By Dr. Chad on 2/8/14Dr. Chad would recommend this product to a friendI've had mine for just over a year. Helps keep my Sump water level in check... works perfect right out of the box. No problems at all.
Works good for Cheap ATO By Redfish on 2/5/14Redfish would recommend this product to a friendI have two of these units one on a 275 gallon tank and another on a 120 gallon tank. They are cheap and work well. I am using lime water with these and have had no problems to date.
works as advertised By Michael on 2/2/14Michael would recommend this product to a friendRecieved prouduct for christmas. I paired it with a aqualifter pump. The setup was easy and the instructions were to the point and easy to understand. All in all good product for the $$
Really good value By R-1 on 1/26/14R-1 would recommend this product to a friendI'm using the ATO to feed the sump in a wet/dry filter. Float positioning was simple using the brackets supplied. So far so good. Aquahub makes a DIY version (which I used as a return pump emergency stop) that is easy to build but probably not for everybody.
The floats, btw, are the same in both the Aquahub and JBJ systems.
Great to start with. By Red7Xero on 1/21/14Red7Xero would recommend this product to a friendMy first one has been working for over 1 yr now with no problems. I grabbed another recently for to manage my RO/DI unit and found out it has a timer inside, which you can dial to 14 mins. So if you are planning to buy this for anything that takes longer to fill than 14 mins, choose another product.
Thanks again BRS.
Great By TMS on 1/21/14TMS would recommend this product to a friendHave used this ATO for 2 1/2 years and have never had a single issue. The floats still work. I use with an aqua lifter. I also have it set in the mystery 3rd mode that I had to find online this is the way I recommend using it, this mode has a float switch turned upside down for fill when the water gets too low and stop when it turns the float switch to off, the second float is positioned above and functions as a universal off in the case that the first float switch gets stuck in the on position.
I happen to like the timed safety backup just in case the first backup safety fails the ATO will automatically shut off after about 15 mins of being on.
good while it works By turbotone on MR on 1/13/14turbotone on MR wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI've owned 2 of these auto top off systems. I'm currently running one on my 75 gallon mixed reef tank.. the first one i owned on this 75 lasted for 1.5 years before it bit the the dust.. the pump I'm using is aqua lifter aw-20 which is something your going to have to purchase additionally so keep that in mind when doing your price comparisons as well.. the first thing to go on these things are the float valves. the sensor just stops working after a while so i suggest if you do plan on buying this don't use both float valves if you don't have to…use one on the return portion of your tank and wait for it to clunk out before you use the other one.. when the first one clonks out just purchase another float valve and wire the new one up to the clonked out ones connectors.. do the same when the your second one clonks out.. my first one clonked out around the 6 month mark the second one clonked out around the same.. the unit itself died in 1.5 years.. had 3 extra float valves so i just ordered another one.. the tank I'm running this on is a basic tank i plan on passing on to a friend and made no sense for me to invest in a quality ato that I'm not planning to keep for ever.. I'm doing a 120 48x24x24 with all the bells and whistles and I'm running a tunze osmolator on that tank.. no review on it bc i still haven't used it yet..
Good bang for you buck By devon on 1/10/14devon would recommend this product to a friendthis product isn't terrible by no means but it is cheaply made. the feature i love and hate it has a timer in it. so if you don't have a strong enough pump for the water it will stop itself because it has been on to long. I recommend not to use a aqualifter for . i use a pico evo-mag 180. since then no hiccups with the top off system
Poor reliability By Will on 1/4/14Will wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis has frequently failed for me. There are no snails debris or critters in my sump that would prevent the float switch from falling but it still fails from time to time. Frequently I have to reset the whole unit.

what's the recommended pump for the ATO JBJ? thanks!
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Werner,
Really just about anything will work in terms of the ATO itself, its more about how far and fast you need to pump water. The most common pump is the aqualifter pump which pumps slowly and only goes a couple of feet. Otherwise if you need to pump larger distances you could use something like the 50ml top off doser.

Why do i still get drips of water out of my discharge hose non stop even after the vaccum pump has shut off the.
The vacuum pump is on the bracket at the top of the tank at lease 3 ft. higher then my R/O holding tank(no pump in here for the A.T.O.
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Jerry,
Is the water in your storage container higher off the floor then the water in your sump? If so that would create a siphon when the pump turns on and water would continue to pass to the tank after it turns off (regardless of where pump itself is located).
JBJ ATO Self-Leveling Controller Features:
The A.T.O. is equipped with (2) float sensors that activate within seconds when your water level drops and automatically refills your sump or tank until it reaches your desired set point. Each float sensor has been designed with an exterior guard preventing snails & hermit crabs from attaching to the sensors.
Electronic Controller Module
Our state-of-the-art electronic controller allows for (2) modes of operation with a total of (3) different set up scenarios, allowing you more choices for installation for your unique set up. Our compact controller also incorporates a visible L.E.D. panel and an Audible Signal alerts when in operation mode.
The kit includes commercial grade "Linkable Brackets" that can easily be adjusted to meet your height requirements, and securely positions your float sensors. No suction cups to lead to disastrous water spillage.
Pump Safety Protection
The A.T.O. automatically stops power to your return pump in your reservoir, in the event that your reservoir is low on water. This safety feature prevents pumps from running dry and failing. (Mode A- Example 1)
